Things you wish you could get into but you just can't!

The biggest frustration for me is running. I just cannot run, I've tried so many times. It's just too hard, too uncomfortable and boring boring boring. Yet running clubs seem like such a good way to interact with a community.

Cycling, same as above. I HATE it.

Gardening. What a lovely way to spend a sunny afternoon, pottering about planting flowers and growing your own vegetables in your very own garden. Unfortunately I hate gardening. It gives me backache and my hands aren't strong enough.

Feel free to add on...

Music. Especially pop. I mostly prefer silence to having music on.

Similarly podcasts and the radio. My mind wanders so quickly, I just can't stay focused when there's nothing visual. And the information is disseminated so slowly - I'd rather just read the information as bullet points!

Ohgoonthenanotheronefortheroad · 28/11/2025 23:27

Crackers and cheese

RosesAndHellebores · 28/11/2025 23:33

Ball/team sports
Little Women
Roughing it: backpacking hostels and camping have never had any appeal
Ethnic stuff
Markets and charity shops
Clubbing: lights, darkness, shouting above booming music - no thank you

Cynic17 · 28/11/2025 23:52

Gardening.
Cleaning.
Skincare.
Exercise.
Christmas.
Reality TV.
Fussing about my health/wellness.

All so boring and - to me - overrated.

louderthan · 29/11/2025 00:05

Running
Board games
Binge watching
Batch cooking
Christmas

louderthan · 29/11/2025 00:06

Oh and gardening

Friendlygingercat · 29/11/2025 00:33

Never learned to📧
Drive
Swim
Play a musical instrument
Suffer fools

Terry Pratchett, Stranger Things, exercise, watching sport

My hubby has loads of Terry Pratchett's books I can't get into them but I love stranger things he can't get in to that lol

Brussels sprouts. I like other green vegetables. I have tried them raw and cooked and...nah.

The very litte ones are tolerable at a work Christmas dinner if not overcooked.

The rest of my family likes them.

Have you tried them halved, boiled for just one minute, then sautéed with chestnuts and crispy bacon lardons?

GreenMarigold · 29/11/2025 08:58

I love music but hate dancing.

I also hate getting all dressed up.

These two things make Christmas parties particularly uncomfortable for me!!

HollyhockDays · 29/11/2025 09:02

Yoga
Cooking
Waking up / getting g up early

Mumofsoontobe3 · 29/11/2025 09:13

Crochet. I watched someone from a distance on a train crocheting the most beautiful blanket a few years ago. It was mesmerising, what a talent!

Box sets / series. If it doesn’t grab me in the first 5 minutes I’m out.

Cheese. Never been keen. Wish I could enjoy a cheese board with a glass of red. Instead, DH shares the extra cheese with the dog 🧀

Oh red wine is one for me! Seems so sophisticated 😅

Jazz. I have fairly broad musical taste, anything from Metallica to Mozart, but I just can’t get on with jazz. I know it’s supposed to be cool & clever & sophisticated etc etc, but to me it’s just music without the tunes.

100%!
God it’s annoying, all scatty and the timing is all jumpy and lots of musical accents and flights of fancy. It actually makes me angry.

Jamiroquai has the same anger-making effect on me.

Gin - tastes like shit medicine whichever way you mix it

Meditation - probably because I’m too busy being pissed off at Jamiroquai

MummyJ36 · 29/11/2025 09:22

Pilates 😭 I’ve tried so many times and I just find it incredibly boring and difficult. I always start wishing time away after the first ten minutes. I’ve had to conclude that it’s not for me !!

EveryDayisFriday · 29/11/2025 09:25

hnwis · 28/11/2025 19:28

Yoga
meditation
cold showers
…all that stuff that’s meant to be so good for your mental health
true crime- not interested in other people’s horrors but always a hot topic of conversation amongst certain friendship groups I can’t join in on
rose wine - far too acidic always tastes like vinegar to me but looks gorgeous on a sunny day!

Edited

Rose wine is my favourite but I can only drink the sweet stuff; white zinfandel or muscato. I'm like a child when it comes to wine, has to be sweet and fruity.

The disappointment is real when I'm bought a dry rose by mistake 😞 as they think all pink wine is the same.

TheGrimSmile · 29/11/2025 09:29

Playing the guitar. It hurts my hands and fingers.

Rolleduphere · 29/11/2025 09:31

Being a subservient wifey/girlfriend.

Crochet. I just can't do it. I knit easily, but crochet somehow defeats me 😭

I think people who can knit and crochet are gods chosen ones.

I either find you can knit or you can crochet, and those who try both are good at one and not very good at the other.

I just can not get a handle on knitting at all.

Swimming - love the idea, but my eyesight is so wretched when I take my specs off.

Imagine if you were only allowed to swim blindfold... makes the whole breathey-watery thing even more terrifying, and you can't find your pants in the changing room after, you can't even find the changing room...

Meadowfinch · 29/11/2025 09:42

Classical music. Occasionally I hear something and am taken with the skill and the beauty, but any more than occasionally and I get bored.

zurigo · 29/11/2025 10:18

Cooking - my family would love it if I enjoyed cooking and whipped up amazing meals all the time - but I find it pure drudgery. I hate having to decide what other people are going to want to eat. I don't know what I want to eat, let alone anyone else! And there is this expectation that women will cook and will enjoy it and find it fulfilling, but I just loathe it!

But I love running and gardening and reading, they bring me a lot of joy and box sets and lots of things that others on this thread don't.

As a child with terrible eyesight I grew up feeling like you but now I just swim with my glasses on! I’ve given up with prescription goggles that constantly steam up.

If you aren’t diving in or going down flumes and just going gentle lengths of breaststroke, glasses are perfectly ok!

Laser eye surgery...honestly life changing. Im a real baby about anything medical so always tell people if I can do it, you can! I used to hate the not seeing whilst swimming too.

Audiobooks (and to a lesser extent, ebooks)
I love reading (tangible books), and to be able to listen to books while out walking or on the bus, or when in bed would be fantastic but I’ve tried and my mind just wanders! I realise I’ve stopped listening pages ago, it’s so frustrating.
