Things you wish you could get into but you just can't!

The biggest frustration for me is running. I just cannot run, I've tried so many times. It's just too hard, too uncomfortable and boring boring boring. Yet running clubs seem like such a good way to interact with a community.

Cycling, same as above. I HATE it.

Gardening. What a lovely way to spend a sunny afternoon, pottering about planting flowers and growing your own vegetables in your very own garden. Unfortunately I hate gardening. It gives me backache and my hands aren't strong enough.

Feel free to add on...

Also sport. I just don’t get it.
Strictly, I have tried but it’s just not for me
gardening is fine as long as I’m just pottering in my little courtyard but I can’t do the big heavy stuff.

JuvenileBigfoot · 28/11/2025 19:22

Breaking Bad and Peaky Blinders.
Watched one episode of each and found them really boring.

Gym.

Gerwurtztraminer · 28/11/2025 19:25

Snorkelling.
So many holidays would be possible, or made so much better, if I could snorkel. But I hate putting my head underwater anyway, can't even do a normal freestyle swimming stroke, I just do breaststroke or go onto my back. Add in a tight, claustrophobic mask covering my nose and mouth and not being able breathe normally and I completely panic and hyperventilate.

I've tried so many times and just can't do it. I so want to be able to float along all relaxed seeing the fish and undersea creatures, and beautiful underwater scenes and not have to keep coming back up for gasps of air every 10 seconds.

Breaking bad starts really slowly, but after a couple of episodes is addictive. I would have given up after one and missed out if I'd watched it on TV, but as I'd bought the dvd I persisted and loved it.

Breaking Bad is really good - maybe you have to be in the right sort of mood. Though if you watched the whole first episode, maybe it just isn't for you. I seem to remember it did take a while to get into it, but then I just binge watched it all in a few days.

hnwis · 28/11/2025 19:28

Yoga
meditation
cold showers
…all that stuff that’s meant to be so good for your mental health
true crime- not interested in other people’s horrors but always a hot topic of conversation amongst certain friendship groups I can’t join in on
rose wine - far too acidic always tastes like vinegar to me but looks gorgeous on a sunny day!

worcesterpear · 28/11/2025 19:28

Cross posted with Emptyvase - I watched it on Netflix.

Having the motivation to do anything other than sorting the pets out, showering and eating dinner after work!

Also, machine knitting, getting better on my sewing machine, DIY, gardening (I am generally surprised when anything survives in my garden), growing my own fruit and veg, woodwork... and basically anything arty!

I would also like to be more confrontational, so that I could argue with my sexist, narcissistic and generally all-round hard work manager (who always has to get the last word in, even when he is wrong) on a more regular basis. Instead, he specialises in crushing confidence. He's so inspiring 🙄

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 28/11/2025 19:54

Crochet. I just can't do it. I knit easily, but crochet somehow defeats me 😭

jemim · 28/11/2025 19:54

Baking. I just find it so boring and I’m not good at it. Plus I don’t particularly enjoy sweet things so it’s just not for me at all. Yet my mum is constantly trying to convince me if I just put enough time into I’ll love it. No, I won’t!

Netcurtainnelly · 28/11/2025 19:59

Its alight for us not to be into everything.
We are all different.

Hen nights, raucous 'girls' nights out generally.
Much prefer a decent meal and drinks quietly with one or two.

Crochet
I'd love to sit and make a blanket (or something)
I bought expensive kits but the instructions are as clear as mud
I even sat in front of youtube (Bella someone) and ended up in tears (and threw the whole lot across the room in a fit of temper-not my finest hour)
A friend tried to show me but as soon as she'd gone home,my brain froze and I lost it
I have to accept its not for me

Brussels sprouts. I like other green vegetables. I have tried them raw and cooked and...nah.

The very litte ones are tolerable at a work Christmas dinner if not overcooked.

The rest of my family likes them.

Religion, both traditional and also - perhaps especially - anything evangelical or new-agey. It always feels like such a tight and supportive community, but you have to genuinely believe to belong.

You could see if there’s a Sunday Assembly near you (it’s a secular gathering).

Try sauteeing them in butter with toasted chopped almonds and even a bit of crispy bacon or chestnuts tossed through. They are unrecognisable (if you are used to steamed or boiled) The water brings out the bitterness.

Hazelnuts are also nice with them - again chopped and toasted.

Xmasbaby11 · 28/11/2025 20:25

Running
getting up early
gardening

I hate them all.

LizTruss · 28/11/2025 20:29

Colouring in.

I have a lot of books and I start with good intention with my crayons, but when mulling over which colour to use next, for say the donkey in the Navity Stable, I tend to suck the crayon, and as a result I can go a bit lightheaded, and have ended up with a green donkey!
(I once coloured H.M.the Queen (E2) blue!!!)

Timeforatincture · 28/11/2025 20:35

Opera. I'd love to love it, but just can't. What is all that tubeless doodling between the actual songs? Just dreary.
