I like this one. You sure it doesn't explode and splatter the inside of the microwave?

Agree. It’s a pit for man hate most of the time .

I'm a man, and MN doesn't strike me that way at all. And I imagine the vast majority of posters would feel the same.

PigletJohn · 28/11/2025 22:09

I tried the microwaved swede today. It was enormous and I gave it 35 minutes, then cut it in half, cubed the innards and scooped them out.

It was well cooked and much less effort than peeling and slicing a raw one.

But considering how big it was, there wasn't much to eat. I was expecting a lot and didn't do any potato. But it only yielded two modest servings.

The outer part was very hard, and wouldn't scoop. At the time I thought it was undercooked, but I think maybe the outside was overdone and dried up.

When I took it out, it looked rather deflated in its skin.

No. I've done quite a few now. It behaves exactly like a giant potato. And it's the best tasting and easiest swede I've ever had.

Just because you can, definitely doesn't mean you should.

I learnt from a post this evening that I should be washing my eyeballs when I shower.

Do you scoop them out with a teaspoon first?

That threads not true though. Very funny, worth a read.

What is Grey Rock?

Showing no emotion and acting like a rock when someone is trying to upset/wind you up. Result hopefully being they give up being a twat.

I might be wrong it’s been a while since I heard the term used

Ah. Thank you. Like me when in the presence of MIL (also a MN thing, but to be fair even her daughter calls her a narcissist).

You’ll get the few odd threads that defend them when due . But it’s a hate roll on sometimes . There definitely is strong anti-male sentiment in some corners .

I had DS at 35 and I'm definitely not middle class. 🤣 The ideas some people come up with!

It is demographic fact that the more educated the woman, the later she will start a family in general. It doesn't mean that any young woman having a baby is working class or vice versa.

Heggettypeg · 28/11/2025 23:49

I found out about slime moulds on Mumsnet. They sound nasty but are actually rather pretty. Lots of images on Google.
Also found out that Japanese Samurais used to do flower arranging.

About Cetaphil face wash- it’s been a game changer for me. I also didn’t know enough symptoms of menopause- I honestly thought I was going mad with some of my symptoms! Love mn!!

If someone wants a cruelty free alternative, revolution do a good dupe of this brand.

That makes me an aristocrat who could happily eat a whole chicken to myself, and my mum never let me watch ITV because it was ‘common’ 😂

Multi taking there if you ate the chicken while watching ITV!

That, if you did any form of sleep training (personally I let mine cry it out in the modern age of 2018) you’ve irreparably failed your emotional children. Mine are fine. They cried. They slept. Hate me

And if you did it successfully under 3m, it was down to your piss easy baby. Absolutely nothing to do with consistency and long nights of shush patting.

what is a penis beaker ?

It’s a made-up stupid thing from a daft thread that some people (but not po-faced arses like me) found hilarious, about a bloke washing his penis after sex from a cup of water on his bedside table, and MNHQ ‘amplified’ its traction on the MN Facebook page, and as a result MN was suddenly swamped by the sort of people who find penis beakers howlingly funny and ‘genius’ and who coincidentally were strangers to spelling, punctuation and grammar.

I’m in a mood.

Yes, this is true all over Europe as well. You can see how the age of women when they have their first baby goes up proportionally to women spending longer time in higher education which does seem logic. Therefore you can predict that those having had their children very young did not go to university (with some exceptions ofcourse) and therefore more likely to be working class.

@RescueMeFromThisSilliness My toilet brush does not have visible pieces of shit on it, thanks very much. That's because it gets cleaned properly.

I have never seen a toilet brush that doesn't have shit on it.

Nobody comes into accidental contact with the bristles of a brush inside a container.

But the brush is in your bathroom. So in principle, it presents a contamination risk so long as it's there.

And so what if there are tiny droplets of water/shit on the toilet rim?

You misunderstand. If a bristle touches the rim, or any other surface, it gets flicked. So the water and shit gets flicked to another part of your bathroom, where it can end up on your hand if you touch that surface.

you get droplets every time you flush it anyway.

I prefer to minimise the spread of shit though.

So you use rolled up toilet paper and bleach - what with, your bare hands?

The toilet paper is rolled up between my hand and the shit, and I let go before anything soaks through, so the shit doesn't get on my hand.

This discussion is making me feel sick, I'm off to throw away the toilet brush.

It never crossed my mind to worry about dog bowls in the dishwasher though.

Does anyone remember the episode of Embarrassing Bodies from years ago where the woman gave herself enemas at home and then put the used equipment in the dishwasher? 😂

RamsaySnowsSausage · 29/11/2025 11:08

I have a click in, detachable loo seat and I put that in the dishwasher (usually along with other non- eating things like the shower tray trap parts, pet bowls, plug strainers, pan stands etc.).

Is that better or worse than bog brushes (which I do use for the pan!), flushed wipes?

And does the loo seat infect the cat bowls or the cat bowls infect the shower or is the entire dishwasher and my life just one germy mess? 🤯

Never had any poo-fleck or Whiskas related illnesses btw.
