What time is your first alcoholic drink Christmas Day

In a similar vein to the 'what time do you have Christmas dinner' thread, what time do you have your first alcoholic tipple?

Bucks Fizz with an early brekkie, a mimosa at 11am brunch, Fizz at midday before lunch or are you very restrained until later in the day? Or perhaps do all the aforementioned!

We used to go the whole hog with Bucks Fizz but now we walk mid morning with dog. In more recent years we've not had a first drink until we get to inlaws around 3pm earliest. Partner is heading for his second booze free Christmas too this year.

I rarely drink so if I have one at all, probably a Baileys 8pm onwards. Dh will have whiskey in the evening and probably a couple of beers. We don't drink with Christmas dinner, neither of us like wine. This year we're with my parents who literally have a snowball in the evening once a year, so even dh will take it easy. Dd1 might have a Baileys with me, dd2 unlikely as she doesn't like anything.

Sherry around 4pm

Champagne cocktails with canapés at 3pm when guests arrive for dinner.

Glass of champagne when we open presents, so about 9am.

A Bucks Fizz with breakfast around 10am (we're not morning people). This is after 2-3 cups of tea first thing/with stocking presents. Might have two actually but they are quite weak (a third fizz and two thirds orange).
Glass of champagne or two around 12-1. Bottle shared between me, husband and adult son though husband only has one as he does the cooking. Red wine with Christmas dinner 2-3ish. Then back to cups of tea - we are weird and have our main presents after lunch.
Then clear up and relax with TV. Will often have another red wine with snacks in the evening. I don't feel drunk or even tipsy as it's so spread out but it does make me feel tired by the evening and a bit groggy the next morning.

I've cut back massively on alcohol recently (moderate social drinking only) as I need to lose weight and it's also helped with better sleep. I'd quite like to carry on my new regime. I will have a drink on Christmas day but probably less than in past years. Hoping to feel more energised on boxing day morning!

I have to drive MIL home so sometime around 7.30pm.

ConnieHeart · 27/11/2025 08:36

Whenever my dd1 makes the first cocktail! Last year it was about midday I think

dontmalbeconme · 27/11/2025 09:29

We'll have Buck's Fizz with breakfast around 9. Then long family dog walk ending up at the pub for 12 where we catch up with our local friends. We'll have one or two drinks there (likely prosecco), before heading home to cook dinner. Wine/Fizz served with dinner, and port with the cheeseboard. We're drinking all day, but fairly moderately and spaced out. No-one will be tipsy by the end of the day.

NerrSnerr · 27/11/2025 09:37

I used to have Bucks Fizz when opening presents and I’d usually get different cans of cocktails in my stocking I’d have throughout the day. Unfortunately now I can’t drink as the menopause has fucked me over so I’ll have some non alcoholic special drinks to make up for it.

FanFckingTastic · 27/11/2025 09:45

Champagne at 'sparrow's-fart' is the best bit of Christmas for me!!

JacknDiane · 27/11/2025 09:48

I can't be bothered with drinking, Xmas day or not. Plus I always cook and my head would be fried if I started drinking early.

2chocolateoranges · 27/11/2025 09:51

Not until the evening , I have to either pick my mum up and take her to ours for dinner then drop her home later on or we drive to my mums and drive home after dinner .

How can anyone think drinking alcohol in the morning is normal, seriously.

Ohmygodthepain · 27/11/2025 10:19

In my house Santa is left a Baileys so once everything's done, wrapped, prepped super late on Xmas eve I might start Xmas day with that baileys before I go to bed...

HelloCharming · 27/11/2025 10:32

Well yes....but it is Christmas - rather than people necking a vodka every day before work.

But I think it's probably one of those class things - the prosecco at the breakfast buffet in our very posh hotel in venice - ooh lovely!. People necking a pint before they get on a Ryan Air flight at 7am in Stansted is apparently beyond the pale.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 27/11/2025 10:35

Around 11am

Wishing14 · 27/11/2025 10:38

I have young kids and we will have hot chocolate in the morning, go for a walk to the beach after lunch. If I drank early I’d feel grim by the afternoon and not able to run about and play. Christmas looks very different now and I MUCH prefer it.

OopOop · 27/11/2025 10:38

Champagne with my smoked salmon breakfast. I don’t ruin it by adding orange juice! Never fell out with any family
members on Christmas Day, despite my early champagne consumption.

EllaPaella · 27/11/2025 10:39

Definitely a bucks fizz with breakfast

Who said anyone thinks it’s ‘normal’? That’s kind of the point. If it was ‘normal’ we’d be doing it every day, not just one day of the year.

MrsArcher23 · 27/11/2025 10:43

The year I drank champagne before noon, I had to prepare the potatoes to roast 3 times. After the third attempt (we ended up with a lot of mash that year!), my BIL stepped in to supervise the roastie situation 🤣

Thankfully my DH does the cooking so my morning champagne drinking doesn’t affect the dinner 😁

HeadyLamarr · 27/11/2025 10:44

DP will have a Bloody Mary with brunch and I'll have a Virgin Mary. Daytime booze puts me straight to sleep. Wine with dinner at 6ish.

PigeonsandSquirrels · 27/11/2025 10:56

I don’t drink anymore but when I did it depended on the family we were seeing.

My family? Bucks Fizz at 10am.
Husbands? Champagne at dinner time. 7.30pm. That’s also when they have their big Xmas dinner. Madness.

Starlight1984 · 27/11/2025 11:09

Champagne / Bucks Fizz with breakfast at 9ish then probably nothing until lunchtime when the wine / G&T gets cracked open. Then steady away until evening cheese and port and Baileys with chocolates.
