What time is your first alcoholic drink Christmas Day

Titasaducksarse · 26/11/2025 23:36

In a similar vein to the 'what time do you have Christmas dinner' thread, what time do you have your first alcoholic tipple?

Bucks Fizz with an early brekkie, a mimosa at 11am brunch, Fizz at midday before lunch or are you very restrained until later in the day? Or perhaps do all the aforementioned!

We used to go the whole hog with Bucks Fizz but now we walk mid morning with dog. In more recent years we've not had a first drink until we get to inlaws around 3pm earliest. Partner is heading for his second booze free Christmas too this year.

There’s only DH and I, we have champagne while opening presents around 8am.

I agree. As soon as we wake up!

EleanorReally · 27/11/2025 06:57

we used to go to family for christmas and drinking started with presents open at 12.00
could descend into chaos - eastenders had nothing on us!
we have all learned from that, i think
i hate that side of christmas

My first cup of tea has a drop of whisky in it.

GrannyTeapot · 27/11/2025 07:03

No alcohol here, I much prefer a cup of tea…it’ll be chai rooibos here.

Claymoreiron · 27/11/2025 07:07

Bailey’s in my morning coffee. Couple of glasses Prosecco with lunch. No one else drinks in the house.

AllJoyAndNoFun · 27/11/2025 07:14

Communion wine at 00:10. I win. I usually neck Santa’s whiskey when I get home as easier than pouring it back in the bottle and seems a shame to pour it down the sink

Algoquick · 27/11/2025 07:14

Usually with lunch at 3/4ish. Having lunch at my FIL’s in Ireland this year. He’s a Pioneer (tee-totaller) so not really sure how he feels about me drinking but I don’t think he will care. DH probably won’t drink because of this. Makes it a little bit awkward but FIL probably doesn’t even notice.

Wiaa · 27/11/2025 07:15

Usually around 30mins- 1hr before dinner ( usually do dinner with family so as we arrive at theirs or they arrive at ours) roughly 1pm. I'd say we drink until around 7pm but slow and steady and probably with the odd soft drink or coffee too

Livpool · 27/11/2025 07:16

We have a 4% Buck’s Fizz when opening presents about 9

IlovetoKnitandRead · 27/11/2025 07:20

Bucks fizz with breakfast, sherry while cooking, wine with lunch, Baileys in the evening.

ButWhysTheRumGone · 27/11/2025 07:21

You’ve just reminded me to get some alcohol free wine from M&S next time I go, thank you. I might have some baileys at some point over Christmas but other than that I don’t drink, or very rarely. My dad was an alcoholic and I don’t get the attraction of alcohol. I did all my drinking as a teenager and it doesn’t interest me at all now.

GiantTeddyIsTired · 27/11/2025 07:23

I normally pop open a bottle when I start to get lunch on - so about 11 or so.

I couldn't do booze at breakfast - I'd never get anything else done that day!

violetcuriosity · 27/11/2025 07:25

We usually have some Buck’s Fizz with breakfast then the rest of the day is a whirlwind of wine/tea/prosecco/baileys

snoopythebeagle · 27/11/2025 07:27

Nothing this year as I’m on medication that means I can’t really drink - normally it’d be a Baileys coffee first thing!

We used to do that but now we hang on til lunch time otherwise we'd out for the count by Christmas dinner!

applebee33 · 27/11/2025 07:30

Myself and my nan decided to open that giant bottle of Prosecco from Aldi one year whilst making dinner, needless to say we were pissing ourselves laughing and dancing around the kitchen making the dinner at 1pm ( we have a late dinner at 4pm ) it was fun but a once off and sort of happened by mistake

MrsPrendergast · 27/11/2025 07:31

Its such a shame but the older I get the more I find that alcohol makes me ill. I mean 1 - 2 glasses of wine give me a tummy upset. I'll probably have a 5% can of g and t as it's Christmas. Sad and pathetic but I don't want to be on the loo all day!

MrsPrendergast · 27/11/2025 07:33

Is the m and s alcohol free wine any good @ButWhysTheRumGone? If so I might try some as its more 'grown up' than elderflower presse!

EndlessHolidayWashing · 27/11/2025 07:34

We'll have naice coffee with breakfast- DH will make a big pot. Present opening then mid-morning dog walk, so I'll probably have a glass of champagne around 12-ish when I start prepping for lunch. But no more than that as if I get tipsy it'll go wrong in the kitchen! Also on my own with DD as DH working a morning shift so will need to keep an eye on her until family arrive and he get home.

Nice red wine with lunch, glass of dessert wine with pud, and then we are having cheese board later in the evening so probably a few thimblefuls of port with that.

It sounds a lot but in reality I'll be in and out of the kitchen etc so I probably won't have too much during the course of the day. My parents will of course get absolutely smashed, as per usual!

AnxiousAnnieeeeeeeeee · 27/11/2025 07:35

I usually pour a glass of fizz once I am dressed and ready and preparing dinner - so usually around 1pm.

I can drink very fast so need to be careful.

Im not sure I could cope with alcohol at breakfast!

Beefjerky · 27/11/2025 07:35

Champagne cocktails with breakfast so about 10/11am? Only day of the year we have a drink in the morning!

Cantbloodyrememberthenameonthread · 27/11/2025 07:54

Around 6/7am. Champagne. Usually VC. skip the OJ 😂

though that said when on holiday I start my day with a mimosa religiously. Very normal where I’m from.

HelloCharming · 27/11/2025 07:59

Probably open a bottle of fizz at 4-ish when family arrives for dinner. The. Wine with dinner and a baileys once they’ve gone. We’ve been quite booze free this year so not sure what I’ll feel like doing on the day…

Hayley1256 · 27/11/2025 08:01

Baileys coffee as soon as I'm awake
