What time is your first alcoholic drink Christmas Day

In a similar vein to the 'what time do you have Christmas dinner' thread, what time do you have your first alcoholic tipple?

Bucks Fizz with an early brekkie, a mimosa at 11am brunch, Fizz at midday before lunch or are you very restrained until later in the day? Or perhaps do all the aforementioned!

We used to go the whole hog with Bucks Fizz but now we walk mid morning with dog. In more recent years we've not had a first drink until we get to inlaws around 3pm earliest. Partner is heading for his second booze free Christmas too this year.

Champagne and/or salted caramel baileys around 8am (or whenever kids wake up). A few top ups during the FaceTimes with family, then bottomless brunch at 11.30.
I front end my Xmas booze.

Ponderingwindow · 27/11/2025 04:07

If the dinner is long and leisurely, I may have two glasses of wine, otherwise just one with dinner.

Natsku · 27/11/2025 04:27

Not until midafternoon or whenever we end up eating, when I'll have some wine with dinner. If I had a drink at breakfast I'd need a nap in the afternoon!

Not until late afternoon with dinner. I’d be asleep by late morning if I had a drink at breakfast. It’s like seeing people who have a drink at breakfast time in airports - it always looks fun but it would wreck my day. I’d have a hangover by late afternoon

EleanorReally · 27/11/2025 06:01

with the meal nowadays
i have been known to start with bucksfizz, in fact, you have reminded me, i might do that, but i probably prefer orange juice and i like to keep a clear head

Empress13 · 27/11/2025 06:01

Champagne opening presents around 8.30. I don’t have many drinks in the morning as I’m hosting I don’t want to be phished cooking the Xmas dinner

countrygirl99 · 27/11/2025 06:11

I have to drive so not until I get home in the evening.

Fedupofwimps · 27/11/2025 06:15

Wrong place to ask OP. Most people on mn don't drink and accuse anyone of drinking a bottle of wine a year of being an alcoholic!
We have guests on Christmas eve so there is a good chance I will be pickled on Christmas morning....I will probably start 'topping up' with a prosecco at 11am ish when I start Christmas dinner🥂

mrssunshinexxx · 27/11/2025 06:19

Buck’s Fizz and croissants at breakfast!

Bookclubanon · 27/11/2025 06:22

Depends if I'm driving or not. If we're at home a glass or two of prosecco Bucks Fizz around midday while cooking the dinner and then a glass of red with dinner which is around 2pm. That's enough because I don't normally drink during the day.

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 27/11/2025 06:23

Around half 10 when I start cooking.

DrCoconut · 26/11/2025 23:48

Same here, I'm not bothered about alcohol at all.

Nor me 🤷🏼‍♀️

ANiceBigCupOfTea · 27/11/2025 06:28

Just before dinner around 3pm

QueenStevie · 27/11/2025 06:29

I was just thinking you have asked in the wrong place! MN - where everyone is either teetotal or a raging alcoholic!

I start on the prosecco about lunch time when we either get to family or family start arriving at ours. Wine with the meal and afterwards, although might have a port with some cheese. Might move on to a G & T late afternoon and then it will be onto the Bailey's with Christmas night TV in the evening. I will hopefully fit a nap in at some point.

Boxing Day will usually be back on the prosecco by early afternoon at the in laws.

ApolloandDaphne · 27/11/2025 06:30

We go all in at Christmas. Kids are adults so we open presents a bit later so fizz around 11ish then lots of wine with lunch around 2/3. Possibly a wee break and a nap and back on the wine/beer/gin/baileys for an evening of games. I also drink a lot of tea so I intersperse with that.

Thecomfortador · 27/11/2025 06:32

Maybe a mulled wine to open presents with around 10am, but that'll be it for the day. We're not keen on alcohol really.
Maybe a hot chocolate with Bailey's at night. I can barely function on little sleep and no alcohol, drinking lots would mean no dinner for anyone, probably end up with a slice of toast with butter and some chocolate 🤣.

Weepingwillows12 · 27/11/2025 06:32

I have a glass of prosecco with breakfast around 9 but then I don't really drink again.

muddyford · 27/11/2025 06:34

Noon, with white wine with smoked salmon sandwiches.
Then a glass of wine with dinner about 6 o'clock. I might have a large single malt before or after.
We can't swill much as DH is on a squillion medications.

Conniebygaslight · 27/11/2025 06:37

Usually when sit down for dinner about 2pm. Years ago before DC we started at breakfast and ended up too sozzled to bother about anything. Only happened once as we ruined Christmas really but we were much younger so you live and learn.

christmasideers · 27/11/2025 06:49

Usually champagne when we open presents (9.30/10ish?). Probably a couple of glasses.
Then a sherry while cooking.
Wine with lunch.
Maybe another sherry or a baileys in the afternoon.
Then I stop.
I sometimes start to feel the second glass of champagne but don’t get drunk.

My friend jokes that I’m an alcoholic for starting early and being a day drinker because she doesn’t drink until 2pm ish. She carries on into the evening though and ends the day pretty tipsy but I prefer not to drink in the evenings because it stops me from sleeping.

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 27/11/2025 06:51

We're hosting this year and may open some wine with lunch. Christmas dinner will be in the evening and there will definitely be wine on offer with the food and probably a G&T before then.

REDB99 · 27/11/2025 06:51

Buck’s Fizz at breakfast, around 10. Then fizz for the rest of the day (with water and soft drinks too). Evening is baileys.

Onceuponatimethen · 27/11/2025 06:52

We have never gone in for a lot in my family and have it only as wine with our Xmas dinner which we have quite late, so say about 5 pm.

It was always the case that we probably stuck to around two glasses with dinner, but now one of the son in laws has a tendency to rely on alcohol as an emotional crutch and is currently trying to drink very little so we won’t be having more than a glass each I would think.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 27/11/2025 06:54

Breakfast champagne if I feel like it.

FuelledByRageAndHaribo · 27/11/2025 06:55

I don’t usually drink alcohol but I’ve bought a bottle of something to add to hot chocolate. It will have to wait until about 9pm though because I’ll be driving relatives home.
