Not for a fucking pension.

For me it comes down to the fact that I fight for womens rights in the UK, I am part of campaigns again violence against women and girls (having been a victim myself) and fundraise for Refuge, I fight for greater justice for rape and sexual abuse victims.

How on earth could I ever look at myself in the mirror again if I gave my money to a regime that allows no independent rights to women, has legal state inflicted violence against women and girls and flogs rape and sexual abuse victims as fornicators or adulterers?

I would never sleep an undisturbed night again.

FrazzledHippy · 27/11/2025 00:38

Fuck that, I'd rather shit in my hands and clap than go to Saudi. HTH

Shmithecat2 · 27/11/2025 00:34

What customs of theirs do you find abhorrent?

Flogging rape victims as adulterers would be up there for me.

But each to their own I guess.

Big nope for the same reasons as other posters

Gingernaut · 27/11/2025 00:44

No

There are Six Flags parks in the USA

That's not a custom though.

Sillysalamander · 27/11/2025 01:02

Absolutely not. I’d rather go to the U.S. the home of 6 flags. Disney is far better tho imo.

That's not a custom though.

Something can be a law and a custom at the same time.

But you continue with that wilful ignorance if it helps you sleep at night.

YourOnMute · 27/11/2025 01:08

No, been there, (not to a theme park mind), but wouldn't go again by choice. Did not enjoy my time there for so many different reasons - and I've travelled a lot.
Saudi is really pushing the tourism agenda but I could not put money into the pockets of that country with any conscience.
Sure, lots of people can have a perfectly fine life there...but equally lots don't. And not much they can do about it.

What customs of theirs do you find abhorrent?

There's a long, long list but for starters the death penalty for apostacy and homosexuality, and guardianship for women giving adult women no more legal rights than minors (indeed fewer rights than minors have in many countries).

Booboobagins · 27/11/2025 01:20

We flew through Abu Dhabi earlier this year and my DD went nuts.

Arab states have poor reputations for human rights, animal rights, women's rights and pretending to be liberal when they are not.

I worked in Dubai for a short time. On my last day I went into the hotel pool. It was busy. An Arab mans arm came into contact with mine when he was playing in the pool with his child. He apologised so much I thought he was going to cry. That's how scared he was that I would accuse him of something untoward. Liberal places, my ass.

Do what you want with your money it's your choice, but def not something I'd spend my hard earned cash on.

CheeseIsMyIdol · 27/11/2025 01:22

Not in a million years.

Friendlygingercat · 27/11/2025 01:24

Been to both Dubai and Abu Dhabi but I would swerve Saudi. MBS (the crown prince and absolute ruler) tries to put a liberalised face on it. However women's rights activists have been detailed and imprisoned even though they have not broken Saudi law. Ive even travelled solo in Iran but would not feel able to do so in the kingdom.

I did live in a lovely compound with other westerners. Also other Arabs, Asians, Africans etc. A real multicultural place.

That says it all then, doesn't it.
As long as you were alright in your lovely compound. All good. 🙄
As for the OP, a massive "hell no' from me.
For all the reasons mentioned.

Find KJK on YouTube post this event talking to about all the comments she has received from around the world. Absolutely heartbreaking.

What made you feel safer in Iran than you think you would be in Saudi?

YourOnMute · 27/11/2025 02:43

I've been to the two and agree. I'll just say Iran is a far, far more welcoming and interesting place.
I had a long post typed out and deleted it, because I actually thought against it. Call me paranoid.

PennyRest · 27/11/2025 02:46

Dear God no. You want to take your daughter?! There is no amount of money you could pay me that would persuade me to take my daughter to that place, for any reason, but especially for something so trivial.

LoudSnoringDog · 27/11/2025 04:27

No chance lol.

sittingonabeach · 27/11/2025 04:54

Wonder how many construction workers died in the building of that area? Wonder what the rights of the workers were?

CuddlyPug · 27/11/2025 04:57

I can't imagine it. You're one innocent interaction away from spending time in jail there.

sittingonabeach · 27/11/2025 05:03

Isn’t Saudi one of those places where as a rich Westerner you are okay until you aren’t and as a poor migrant worker you are fucked from the start?

purpleygrey · 27/11/2025 05:12

Thelondonone · 26/11/2025 22:44

No but I have quite high standards on human rights.
