As long as you’re ok @Shmithecat2, that’s what matters. Sod the immigrant workers, women, locals, journalists etc etc who are trodden into the ground and whose
life is appalling, as long as you have a fun trip.

BettyRubblecausestrouble · 26/11/2025 23:30

Am thinking Shmithecat2 is on a wind up.
or a moron…

Thedogscollar · 26/11/2025 23:33

Of all the places in the world this is one I'll never see.
For all of the above reasons.
There are other theme parks.

BUT you are not the only person in this world…but I guess you care only for your own ignorant, selfish carcass.
people like you are why evil flourishes

Correct, I am not the only person in this world. But I'm also not the only person who's lived a trouble free life in Saudi either. Millions do, every day.

i Must admit I don’t know know much about their human rights
I don’t know how life is out here

suppise tho uk is hardly innocent, but I suppose alot of a the dark uk stuff was from along long time ago

nevwr felt unsafe in Dubai
in fact actually felt v safe there but I just can’t really imagine Saudi

You should really google the "missing" Saudi princesses.

Princesses Sahar, Jawaher, Maha and Hala Al-Saud held on house arrest after their mother fled to London. In 2013-2014 they spoke to the media and the UN about being imprisoned in a Jeddah compound. In 2014 all communication from them stopped. This is after some reports came out that they were being drugged, starved and denied medical care.

A Texan doctor who treated Hala later told journalists that the sisters were kept under relentless surveillance, forcibly medicated (heavy sedatives and benzodiazepines), and effectively immobilised, and that two of them ultimately died after years of this confinement and abuse.

Hala and Maha are now reported as dead, since 2021, with absolutely no transparent reason as to how or why.

Sahar and Jawaher, there has been no verified public update on their fate or whereabouts. Recent investigations 2023–2024

These women are forcibly disappeared.

If they do this to their royalty, what sort of treatment do you think their lower class citizens face?

Saudi Arabia treats their women horribly, they have next to no human rights, and disobedient and dissenting women get torture levels of abuse.

If you care for women at all, you'd not support their economy, you'd not visit, and if you're a woman yourself, you'd do so in the name of self preservation too.

Nope, not on a wind-up. I have actually lived there, unlike anyone else on this thread. Have family and friends that still do.

Thank you for the link. I will read this properly

I must admit I’d don’t watch the news, just stresses me out and causes anxiety
so I’m quite out of touch with a lot

Now you know a bit more, has it changed your mind @AceKitten ?
Or will you still support the regime?

Women in general who challenge the guardianship system may be sent to shelters for troubled women, where according to human rights activists they face torture and sexual abuse.[96][103] Men are free to abuse women in Saudi Arabia, with reports of women being locked in their rooms for months or threatened with starvation or shooting for offenses such as getting the wrong kind of haircut or being in a relationship with a man the family has not approved.[96] Women cannot file police reports without the permission of a male guardian, and may end up being imprisoned by the government for complaining.[96]
According to Amnesty International, several arrested women's rights activists detained without charge in Dhahban Prison are enduring torture by electrocution, flogging, hanging from the ceiling, and sexual assault.[115]

Nice place for a holiday.

Thank you for the info

is Dubai just as bad ?

Do they even do tourist visas?

They’re desperate for tourists. The Saudi tourist board advertises all over the place.

No, you shouldn’t go.

FurbieFan · 26/11/2025 23:43

Another no

Well it does look amazing what they are building out there, but I don’t want to go myself or take my daughter if we would. Be in danger
and I would feel bad supporting, which I suppose they want to turn it into a big tourist destination, they must do as even fix flags alone must have cost billions or more

i know uk hardly has a squeeky clean history but it’s from a. Long long time ago

I will certainly read all these links throughly tho
and also do a bit of research too

I did live in a lovely compound with other westerners. Also other Arabs, Asians, Africans etc. A real multicultural place.

I have worked in the middle east. It's fine and interesting to visit the region, even to form an opinion that isn't from your arm chair. The people are friendly and I enjoyed my time there. Lot's of people from all over the world live and work in Saudi and other middle eastern countries. Just have to respect their customs don't break any laws while you are there...

Elliania · 26/11/2025 23:51

Not a chance. I had the chance to go to an event in Saudi Arabia a few years ago with friends but we all decided that going to a place where one member of the group could be arrested just for holding hands with her wife wasn't somewhere we wanted to give our money to.

Dubai is not as bad as Saudi, but still pretty bad. As a foreigner (and specifically a Western foreigner) you'll generally avoid most of it. They like tourists and foreign businesses, and want to encourage them. But if things go wrong, even for a tourist, they can go very wrong - and the legal system will always protect an Emirati over a foreigner.

winterbluess · 27/11/2025 00:01

I wouldn't go to saudi

Throneofgame · 27/11/2025 00:02

No, because I have no interest in theme parks.

However I did go on a week long tour of Saudi Arabia in 2023 which I really enjoyed.

But I don’t respect many of their customs. I find them abhorrent and immoral.

However friendly and hospitable individuals undoubtedly are.

I would have actually had similar views until I visited tbh. It did change my views on quite a lot of things I thought I knew about the middle east, not all my views but some. I don't think you can form a real opinion without actually going there.
