Tax TAx TAX!!!!!! Fuming at our government!

1000 replies

Baldylovingbeard · 26/11/2025 13:29

please try and convince me otherwise…..

What a joke this government are!!! ( UK)

Let’s just tax everyone who earns a bit of cash!!! Oh and while we’re at it… go on have loads more children it’s ok others will pay for them!!! Cutting the 2child benefit cap! If you decide to have multiple children you should be able to afford to provide for them. NOT expect others too!!!!! If you fall on hard times and you’ve worked and contributed to paying tax than you are within your rights to claim tax this is what benefits were made for, it’s not a means to not work, have more kids….etc!

Oh and if you work really hard and want to put some money by for you later days in life…. You’ll be taxed!

My situation:
Part time work, full time mum to 1 child. I work for myself and earn around 10k this money usually pays for things our daughter needs… clothes, clubs, any treats.
Husband works long hours, his under a lot of stress with his job, he has worked his way to and earns a very good salary 100k he gets taxed 60% you do the maths on that! We live in a 3 bed around £280k so nothing crazy but live within our means. We have one car! One holiday a year! Put money into savings! Pension! our daughter goes to one after school club. My husband got kicked out of home at 16…. He has worked with no help from family or friends and I believe he has worked very hard to get to where he is now. we are generous with charity’s and try our best to help out when we can if we can!

@YorkshireGoldDrinker aren't Reform in agreement with lifting the 2 child cap?

Probably. I don't care. My husband voted for them on my behalf in protest (I don't vote, that's a man's job), not because he wants them in power.

Is society older, poorer and sicker as a direct result of your actions? Or is that all a direct result of previous bad policy-making? I guess if you voted for this government, it's at least partially on you and everyone else who voted the same way.

I think it’s due to years of bad policy & the fact western populations are ageing. It’s not just happened in the last 2 years…Not sure why that would be my fault but it’s reality?

This. Aspiration is punished under Labour so what hope is there for anyone. Where is the incentive to do well in this country?

There are things to aspire to other than earning enough to live in a £5m house.

Blinkingbother · 26/11/2025 13:59

The money for extra child benefit would be far better put to use feeding these kids good meals at school and providing wrap around care in a stable environment…..rather than going to so many parents who very sadly put it to their own benefit not the children’s!!!!

Stillpoor · 26/11/2025 13:59

Have more kids get more money.
Its not going to get people out of poverty it will drive them in it.

Kids are not piggy banks.

People vote to maintain the status quo. Boomers did that to keep their pensions and social care. Why is it you think that whenever anyone in government goes near pensions, boomers cry foul every time?

pottylolly · 26/11/2025 13:59

I agree with you. The UK has become a country where wealthy people have to limit themselves to 2 kids when they should be having more, while people who aren’t working (and probably shouldn’t be having kids) receive handouts equal to them in pre-tax pay.

All benefits for the non-working ( except for disability) should be temporary & they should never be better off than working people.

Alpacajigsaw · 26/11/2025 13:53

How else do things get paid for but for taxes?

We”ve had taxes for ever, childish tantrums aren’t going to help. And if you think you’d be any better off under the Tories or Reform I have news for you

Yep, where is the utopian party that will pay for everything with low taxes, I will vote for them!

She's not expecting the tax payer to top up her wages though.

Well she is, if she thinks her husband should pay a lower tax so they can afford for her to be part time.

TheSmallAssassin · 26/11/2025 14:00

Just a reminder that only 4% of working people earn over £100k and you don't get your whole income taxed at 60%, it's a progressive tax, surely you know that @Baldylovingbeard ?

Baninarama · 26/11/2025 14:01

Worth reminding everyone on this mad thread that each subsequent child earns you a whole £897 a year - not exactly a lottery win, is it?

Catterbat · 26/11/2025 14:02

I was surprised that there’s literally not one thing in this budget that I disagree with.

TemuTrinny · 26/11/2025 14:02

Your husband does not pay 60% tax in the UK. That’s just not true.

mydogisthebest · 26/11/2025 14:02

cadburyegg · 26/11/2025 13:42

Research on the 2 child limit showed that it hardly had any impact on fertility. The number of children in poverty has increased since the limit was introduced.

So the idea that people happily have lots of children knowing the taxpayer will pay for them isn’t based in fact. What is happening is that people have 3 or more children who can afford them at the time then fall on hard times.

Everyone with a brain should realise anything can happen in life - illness, death, job loss etc etc so why have 3 or more children in the first place? Stick to 2 and then if something happens you are more likely to be able to cope.

Ginmonkeyagain · 26/11/2025 13:57

Mate, your husband is not taxed 60% of a 100k salary unless he has fucked up badly somewhere.

Anything over £100k is effectively taxed at 60% due to the reduction in the tax free allowance

ledmeup · 26/11/2025 14:02

People aren’t having dc because of high housing costs and high childcare costs.Birth rates were falling way before labour got in.

Edited

Exactly. And the chances of the kids from the benefit families growing up and becoming meaningful members of society is far lower. So the cycle continues.

This country is a mess.

You don’t pay 60% tax on 100k though

Mumsnet seems to attract a lot of people with high incomes and low mathematical abilities for some reason.

Luckyingame · 26/11/2025 14:03

We will be increasing rents for our tenants.
Either that, or property disappears from the market.
Well done.

ipredictariot5 · 26/11/2025 14:03

I am worse off instead of better off as every Tory budget has made me. If all the experts and campaigners say removing the cap directly reduces child poverty that’s good enough for me.
I am delighted at the taxing of unearned wealth from property prices and think for now the 2m threshold is about right

Stillpoor · 26/11/2025 14:03

brown31c · 26/11/2025 13:43

I will be using the scrap of child benefit cap and getting my moneys worth

Are you saying you will have more kids if you can get more benefits for them.

I would scrap the triple lock but no party will do that

ledmeup · 26/11/2025 14:04

child benefit isn’t changing, how are people still confusing this!!!!
