I was surprised no one noticed and they are less than half the price. Are their any own brands you prefer or can if needs must. I alwats get own brand bleach

I think Lidl own brand weetabix is better than branded. In fact most Lidl stuff is better than branded. Especially their "Magnum" and "Cornetto" ice creams and Greek yogurt and in fact all their breakfast cereals. See also fresh orange juice, cheeses, cured meats.....

Aldi’s version of Diet Coke is £3.38 for 12 x 330ml cans.

Same quantity of Diet Coke is £6.15 in Sainsbury’s. (Cheaper if you have a Nectar card)

I honestly can’t tell the difference.

Back in the day, I used to work in marketing; one of my clients was a major paper manufacturer. They made Asda’s Shades toilet roll and one of the client team told us that Asda’s product spec was superior to their brand’s.

Another vote for Aldi wheat bisks for Weetabix. Their vanilla latte sachets are good also. They have a fizzy multivitamin that has exactly the same ingredients as Berocca 1/4 the price. Tuna in spring water is good too.

AceKitten · 22/11/2025 14:24

Aren't they all made in the same factory?

Soontobe60 · 22/11/2025 14:24

I know you don’t eat them, but I’ve just stocked up on some White Company dupe candles from Lidl - they’re so lovely! The smell is divine. The smaller one is £9.99 compared with £45 and the bigger one is £24.99 compared with (I think) £80

It’s Morrisons Weetabix you need, once tasted you’ll never go back to any other. Also Morrisons fresh orange juice is the only one I can drink, all the others have a weird metallic aftertaste for me.

GellerYeller · 22/11/2025 14:55

We prefer:
Tesco Shreddies
Waitrose essential Fruit and Fibre
Aldi nutty muesli
Morrisons Crunchy Peanut Butter
M and S Ketchup(tastes nothing like Heinz but it’s thick and delicious)

Buscobel · 22/11/2025 15:29

Aldi lasagne is as good as Charlie Bighams, if not better.

I do like Asda's Shades. They're very often sold out in our local store.

I rarely buy brand name stuff but will shell out for Mutti brand tinned tomatoes….

the aldi version of Jordan’s country crisp is good, aldi Greek yogurt. Loads really, in all the supermarkets…

WhyamIinahandcartandwherearewegoing · 22/11/2025 15:51

Aldi fresh squeezed OJ is my go to….

MinnieCauldwell · 22/11/2025 15:58

Waitrose own brand unfragranced soap, made in the UK. So much better and cheaper than Simple which has changed, got smaller and made in Turkey and turns to mush.

M & S tinned chicken and mushroom soups are better than Heinz and under a £1 a tin.

chattyness · 22/11/2025 16:06

We buy Tesco's own Wheat Biscuits and Morrison's they're both about half the price of the brand and taste the same to us. I also like Tesco honey nut cornfkakes, very good value and nicer than Kellogg crunchy nut, plus again more for your money.
I like Tesco own cream crackers and I got them past my DH without him noticing too & he's a huge brand snob.

I used to buy those or cirio or napolina, but now I buy growers harvest from Tesco. I thought they would be rubbish but they are so lovely, I can eat them on toast or with breakfast and not just as an ingredient in another dish . I've never done that with any tinned toms before.

WCSCT · 22/11/2025 16:11

Aldi’s crunchy nut cornflakes are superior to Kelloggs. They are not as sweet which is an improvement.

Lennonjingles · 22/11/2025 16:17

Tesco Strawberry Crisp cereal is as good as Jordan’s, about 1/3 cheaper. I buy Tesco biscuits, nobody has complained.

Zempy · 22/11/2025 16:26

It really isn’t…

PurpleCyclamen · 22/11/2025 16:30

I always buy supermarket own brands for everything - they are exactly the same as the branded
It's not like Tesco et al have their own factories producing all this stuff- they just get it from the big companies who relabel it with a Tesco sticker.

Sesma · 22/11/2025 16:36

AceKitten · 22/11/2025 14:24

Aren't they all made in the same factory?

I worked in a food manufacturers and the M&S ingredients were kept separately and ordered from different sources to the other supermarkets products. There was definitely a difference in quality

Empress13 · 22/11/2025 16:38

Aldi mayonnaise is much better than Hellmans and uses fresh eggs. Their dark chocolate digestives are better too according to DP and he is a biscuit snob. Also their sour dough is fab they do the toasted version a lot cheaper than Jason’s

They don’t use the same ingredients/quantities even if they’re made in the same factory - that’s why you can taste the difference between different brands

Papyrophile · 22/11/2025 16:59

DH prefers Lidl Bixies to Weetabix. And like a PP, I'm a fan of their Greek yoghurt and most of the Deluxe ranges.

ThreshAcre · 22/11/2025 17:02

The cheapest Tesco 'weetabix' are disgusting. They went uneaten.

WashYourDamnRice · 22/11/2025 17:16

I can absolutely taste the difference between stores own cereals and the branded ones. The kids conducted a blind taste test years ago in a desperate attempt to get me to stop buying "own brand crap". I was so surprised with the results that joined in the experiment and it was conclusive. Digestives too.
