Tescos own brand weetabix is just as good as the original. Any others?

I was surprised no one noticed and they are less than half the price. Are their any own brands you prefer or can if needs must. I alwats get own brand bleach

I always buy supermarket own brands for everything - they are exactly the same as the branded
It's not like Tesco et al have their own factories producing all this stuff- they just get it from the big companies who relabel it with a Tesco sticker.

Each supermarket has its own product specification/recipe, so their products aren’t the same as the branded alternative. In some (many?) cases the own brands can be superior to the brand - but cheaper.

only one mention of Sainsbury’s. I’m house bound so I can’t do the main contenders as I they don’t deliver. I wish they would.

i can do Ocado Sainsbury’s or Morrissons.

Morrisons shreddies and wheatabix are far better and cheaper than the branded stuff.

Yes Morrisons shreddies are very good as are their rice krispies and crunchy nut cornflakes. I had either Lidl or Aldi (can't remember which) crunchy nut cornflakes and they were disgusting.

Aldi’s version of Diet Coke is £3.38 for 12 x 330ml cans.

Same quantity of Diet Coke is £6.15 in Sainsbury’s. (Cheaper if you have a Nectar card)

I honestly can’t tell the difference.

This! Aldi Diet Cola is lovely

their mayo, stackers crisps, ‘sannex ’ shower gel, Subway rolls are also fab. Their Almond Body Lotion is amazing but not currently available

Try Aldi’s Marmite. It’s called ‘Mighty Meaty’ or something. I’ve tried loads of dupes over the years and it’s the first one I’ve found that’s just as good. It also spreads easier.

Grandessa Mighty Yeast Extract. It's good, and it also qualifies as gluten free nowadays @SoScarletItWaswhich Marmite no longer does. (Waves to a fellow Coeliac 👋). I love it!

ThreshAcre · 22/11/2025 18:20

I've tried the Aldi yeast extract as recommended on MN, and I reckon it's good.

The Alcafe 'gold blend' is good too. Better than Douwe Egbert IMO.

I hope you see the above, I see I've run your name into another word, so just in case...

I think Asda beans are better than Heinz. We don’t actually shop at Asda, it was an accidental discovery, so I buy about 20 tins at a time!

I agree, think they are better than Heinz and so much cheaper too. Have a shelf full of them. Like Co op ketchup too over Heinz.

One thing that is vile is Iceland’s own brand Magnums. Absolutely inedible. Their Prosecco, on the other hand is excellent.

ThreshAcre · 22/11/2025 19:09

Iceland 'cornettos' are good. Lidl ice cream is great but Aldi's isn't.

Thanks! I remember something happening like the Marmite recipe didn’t change; the classification or process did - and reading that if you were ok with it before, you’d still be ok. Probably best to switch to a properly GF version though, I agree. Thanks for the recommendation.

MedievalNun · 22/11/2025 19:16

The Aldi version of Special K Red Fruits. I actually prefer the Aldi one to the ‘branded’ version. And their instant porridge pots are really good too, with far less sugar than the Tesco and Asda versions too.

Joeninety · 22/11/2025 19:16

Lidl's 'Freeway cola' I actually prefer it to the genuine Coca cola, at a quarter of the price !

SpottyAardvark · 22/11/2025 19:18

Lidl Bixies are the best. They are slightly bigger & more substantial than Weetabix. If Weetabix & Bixies were the same price, I would have the Bixies.

SoScarletItWas · 22/11/2025 19:19

Oh can’t believe I forgot to mention - Lidl Fin Carre chocolate is amazing, especially their Fruit and Nut, which is proper whole nuts and raisins, not the tiny kibbled up bits in the dreadful Cadbury’s these days.

PauliesWalnuts · 22/11/2025 19:26

Lidl Formil washes just as well as Fairy or Persil and is loads cheaper. Their fake Tunnicks wafers and chocolate ginger snaps are also brilliant. And their wedges of Parmesan are the best I’ve had.

ThreshAcre · 22/11/2025 19:32

I agree about the Formil, but will need to do a test on the 'Tunnocks', biscuits and chocolate.Smile

Katherineryan1986 · 22/11/2025 19:33

I eat own brand weetabix every morning, I buy Morrisons, Sainsburys, tescos, waitrose or asda, depends where I am at the time! They all taste better to me than the actual real Weetabix.

Same goes for dark (plain) chocolate - own brand is nicer than Bournville.

Also orange juice, I rarely buy tropicana as the own brand is just as nice.

FreshAirandSunshine · 22/11/2025 19:34

Feta and Parmesan from Aldi. Way way cheaper than other supermarkets and brilliant quality

Yellowsubmarine55 · 22/11/2025 20:07

Just remembered, Lidl own dark chocolate digestives are the best I've tasted. I agree re the formil.

If you want a good bathroom cleaner, Morrisons will fit the bill, under £1 and smells really fresh.

The cheapest Tesco 'weetabix' are disgusting. They went uneaten.

I agree the Stockwell ones have a horrible tang and they're small. The Tesco wheat biscuits though are fab.

Speaking of Stockwell I do love their teabags , very nice tea which is one thing I am fussy about. I used to buy tetley only before.

Absolutely test! They both taste different - I could absolutely identify the real Tunnocks wafers, but the Lidl ones are equally lovely, just a bit different.

ThreshAcre · 23/11/2025 10:49

@chattyness It was like a brick of chopped up wheat straw. Smile Inedible.

user2848502016 · 23/11/2025 18:29

I quite like Asda own brand cereal.
DD is the only one who eats weetabix though and never complains about any store brand ones I buy
