Kick me up the bum!

TheChosenTwo · 21/11/2025 13:19

God I’m feeling lazy today.
I’m on leave, we got back from holiday yesterday and I had plans to be productive today. So far I’ve dropped ds to school,
put on a load of washing, caught up with some tv and had a nap.
None of the real jobs I wanted to have done have been done because I’m still lying on the sofa!
Please can someone give me a metaphorical kick up the arse and shame me into getting some jobs done 😂

Consider your arse well and truely booted!

DramaAlpaca · 21/11/2025 13:24

And another hard kick from me. Get on with it, woman!

Turnitoffnonagain · 21/11/2025 13:26

Run the vacuum round, and have a straighten up. Prep todays dinner.
All good.

TheChosenTwo · 21/11/2025 13:28

Yes yes yes you’re all correct, i simply MUST move!
Okay here goes, will set myself some timers and stick a podcast on.
Thanks - wish me luck…

Some loud dancey music usually helps. 👍
Except if you keep stopping to sing along👎

TheChosenTwo · 21/11/2025 13:55

True @Turnitoffnonagain 😂
unfortunately no loud music today, I’m trying to be quiet due to a dc being asleep (we were in A&E all night last night, actually I swapped out with dh at 3am and came home for some sleep! Part of the reason I’m so knackered is we’d had a night flight back on Wednesday without any sleep and then only 3 hours last night!).
Dc is fine, just needed some stitches for a nasty accident at work but they couldn’t drive and had to leave their car at work but didn’t sleep at all last night and got home at 7.
I’ve changed our bedding and emptied the cases and put them away. It’s a good start!

Seems to me that the most important thing at the top of your list right now is some rest. Your body is telling you what it needs, so no kick up the arse from me.

Oyoyoyoypypy · 21/11/2025 14:01

KICK

now go and get on with it all and report back on progress.

(ps the nap sounds bliss!)

Wayk · 21/11/2025 14:15

Go and have some rest and chill

Seawolves · 21/11/2025 14:20

Nope because I am also currently chilling on the sofa after doing a few bits round the house. I am listening to my body for a change, I think we often push through when we just need to have a duvet day.

Susanandgoliath · 21/11/2025 14:21

Get a good audio book on and go for it
I love days like this. Pottering around catching up on jobs.
and so much more pleasant than with children underfoot!

Susanandgoliath · 21/11/2025 14:21

Bit of an off time for a holiday with school aged kids though!

AliceMaforethought · 21/11/2025 14:22

I'm not going to kick you up the arse, you probably need to rest. Are you a single parent? Because of not, there is no reason for you to be the one picking up the slack all the time.

Oh FFS. Wind your neck in.

Ihateslugs · 21/11/2025 14:28

I’ve got no room to talk as I’m still in bed scrolling on my iPad! I had a disturbed nights sleep, which is not unusual for me, as I am very anxious at the moment about a forthcoming operation and was awake between 4.30 and 6am so did not wake up until 10.20 - am retired! No specific plans today other than a trip to the library before they close at 6, make a few phone calls and place my online grocery order for delivery tomorrow.

Phone calls done, meal plans sorted for next week so just need to go online, done more research on which new light fittings to order for the lounge and message left with electrician. Cleaner came yesterday so no chores to do!

I do have impaired mobility due to arthritis and on strong painkiller, it’s painful to walk even around the house so even if I was out of bed, I’d probably be sitting on the settee crocheting! I will get up soon though as I’ve not had lunch yet and I might do some baking before popping out to the library.

I am so looking forward to getting my knee replacement surgery done so I can be more active again, the first one is due soon hence my anxiety and the second should be done early next year. Not sure though if my love of being in bed for a long morning will change, I’m not hurting anyone and I have an active social life.

Well a previous post mentions swapping over with her DH at 3am in A&E.

Doesn't sound like OP is expected to "pick up the slack" at all.

Not all OH's are complete dicks.

No kicks from me OP. Chill and get some rest.

Susanandgoliath · 21/11/2025 14:30

Coffee and fresh air for you!!

I was being nosy! No judgement, I don’t give a fig whether the kid attends school or not.

Sorry, I was guilty of not RTFT.

So in that case… can’t remotely be a full days work. Just you? You and partner? Kick up and shove on… what? 2 washes?

and then have a nice free weekend catching up with family

Balloonhearts · 21/11/2025 14:37

Get off your arse you slattern, we have probably about a week before our overly festive little pricks children will want to put the tree up and then you'll have to stand on a chair to put the lights up and see all the dust on the doorframes!

Also I need you to get up because you need to drag ME up with you.

No I’m not a single parent, dh and I went away for a week without the dc as we have done every year since they’ve been old enough to leave without too much fuss. We do also take them away with us every year on other holidays before anyone jumps on the poor deprived dc 😂 we have about 3 holidays with them and one just for ourselves!

We Got back midday yesterday and dh popped to work (he’s self employed but wanted to make sure everyone was okay), I did a bit of light housework and started on the cases. Dh then cooked us dinner while I took ds to football training.

Then we took shifts last night at the hospital. He has gone to work today and will cook dinner again tonight. He honestly does a fair 50/50 split of all stuff - house and dc. No complaints here!

I had also booked today off as leave and planned to do lovely things but in the end slept most of the morning and I’m just sitting down after doing an hour of jobs to make the house feel nicer and everything is back to how it should be so I will enjoy some more rest on the sofa in peace until the youngest comes home from school.

I really don’t know if I’m too tired to understand what you’re sort of getting at here?!

We didn’t take the dc with us, 2 of them have been at home while we were away and the middle one is at uni. I’ve done an hour of housey crap which ideally I would have done first thing this morning just so it was done and then had a nice day doing more fun things but tiredness got in the way.

While we were away the eldest was also working and not all the housework was done (totally fine, we were grateful that they’d stepped up to help with younger sibling enabling us to go away in the first place, as long as everyone was alive when we got back and the house hadn’t burnt down it was all a win!).

when I woke up I spent half an hour on my phone and needed a little kick up the bum to force me up. I usually find those threads quite motivating to read myself.

anything else?!

@Ihateslugs good luck with the op, sorry it’s causing you to lose sleep.

our cleaner came while we were away, there wasn’t much evidence of her visit by the time we got home 😂😂
