I would buy a big size box of Yorkshire tea if I knew they drunk regular tea and a packet of Highland shortbread.

The worst Secret Santa I ever received was a History of the Catholic Church book from a parsimonious colleague.

I am over 50 and find them old fashion.

DD shops at Urban Outfitters for clothes and wouldn't be seen dead with these ones, for homeware she is all for clean lines, no pattern, nothing cute-ish.

She loves vintage for some clothes, bags and jewellery but shops in a vintage store for these.

Exactly. My DC (late 20s) would not appreciate these glasses, and would take them to the charity shop ASAP.

No-one I know (in real life) under 40 would be seen dead with these glasses in their house! 😬 (In fact most people I know under 90 wouldn't!)

I’m in that age range and like them and would be pleased with something other than the generic wine/chocoalte/prosecco set

They are really pretty and a thoughtful SS.
I'd be delighted.

Owlmoonstar · 21/11/2025 18:28

I don't particularly like them. But I like the fact you put more thought into them other than the generic wine, socks, chocs suggestions above. And for that reason, I would appreciate receiving them and he grateful.

Ok so you need a non alcohol £10 generic 30 to 40 female secret Santa present, here are a few things I've known go down well at my place.

  • Christmas themed mug, hot chocolate, popcorn and chocolate.
  • Blind date with a book (Google it if you've not heard of it, I hadn't until recently) you can get pre done ones on Etsy or make your own
  • Nice scarf and glove set
  • Perfume from Next

I’d like the book but not your other ideas, it’s just stuff.
The glasses are nice.

Sorry, but I'd be pretty unimpressed. Unless you know they have a passion for twee, rather elderly 'picked up in the gift shop between the tartan scarves and the toy bears carrying hearts' vibe. It would not occur to me they cost over a tenner, either.

So far from Urban Outfitters!

I loathe scented candles, such a lazy gift imo.

Several of us have said the same! Priving you can indeed go wrong 🤣🤣

Sprig1 · 21/11/2025 19:14

I don't love them but would be pleased to receive them from my Secret Santa as I would know that some thought went in to choosing as it's not just generic tat.

Fasterthan40 · 21/11/2025 19:15

pot of hyacinths from Sainsbury’s and a ncie festive/cheap pot from flying tiger or somewhere similar? That would be about a tenner and v disposable

Honestly, if someone bought me perfume from Next I would be really fed up. That is bad perfume. I wouldn't even be able to give it to someone else! I wouldn't want the hot chocolate or scarf set either but at least I might be able to think of someone who would.

I really like those glasses and would be delighted to receive them.

JacketPotatoQueen · 21/11/2025 19:45

I like them! I have had some terrible secret Santa gifts over the years and would appreciate those!

Notexactlyasplanned · 21/11/2025 19:51

I think they are charming - my 19 yo has a selection of very similar glassware so I think they are cooler than maybe some on here are suggesting. Also: it’s a £10 secret santa present - if it’s not totally to her taste that’s fine!

What 19 year olds find 'cool' is not usually what 30-40 year olds find cool though, is it?

saveforthat · 21/11/2025 20:31

When did secret santa become "thoughtful"? I haven't been involved in a ss for years now due to working from home but when I worked in an office the aim was to buy something outrageous/embarrassing/insulting. How boring watching people open chocolates etc.

There was a whole thread last year discussing whether it's meant to be silly/embarrassing joke gifts or something that's actually a bit nice.
It was about 50/50 depending on workplace.
The general consensus was people do need to clearly know which version you're doing!

cinnamongirl123 · 21/11/2025 20:48

What is it? A juice glass? I would not like to receive those, sorry OP

Zempy · 21/11/2025 20:51

I really like them!

GiveafuckGertrude · 21/11/2025 22:08

I’m in this age range and I like them! I’d absolutely hate a Christmas themed mug or socks, wtf!

I'm considerably older than 40 and I think they are cool.

QwertyAtThirty · 21/11/2025 23:27

I'm 40 (just!) and really like them! And plenty of the "safe bets" on this thread would not be safe bets at all for me. I don't like chocolate, I'm coeliac so can't eat biscuits (and always feel a bit sad and unseen when I receive them), I have a matching set of mugs and don't like non-matching ones, I don't drink hot drinks, and while I don't loathe scented things I am particular about what they smell like and really dislike floral scents.
The glasses are a great choice, OP, and very on trend atm. I think most 30-40yos will realise they're not from the charity shop!
