@Coffeeishotand @Needmorelego shock horror I do mean bin. I don’t regift as I would hate a regifted present and there are zero charity shops near me and I wouldn’t make a special trip. Now you can stop clutching your pearls and get on with your day

In that circumstances I would just leave them at work so someone else can take them.
Putting them in an actual bin is terrible behaviour.
I will clutch my pearls at that.
🙄

WhineAndWine1 · 21/11/2025 12:21

It’s a waste in the first place to buy such horrid glasses, I wouldn’t be given myself an extra task at the weekend to drive ten mins to the nearest charity shop.

Give them to your neighbour.
Or do you live alone in the middle of a field?

Needmorelego · 21/11/2025 13:12

@WhineAndWine1 do you actually take part in a Secret Santa?
It sounds like you need to opt out.

@NeedmorelegoTerrible behaviour have a word. Why would I want to regift or hand other people tat to people? Also why would I need to opt out if I take part? We do a wish list so I always buy from that.

If you clutch your pearls at this can I suggest you have lived an a very sheltered life. Me binning an unwanted gift is not going to stop the world from turning.

Pilateshappy · 21/11/2025 13:24

Everyone is so miserable 😂 I'd be very happy with them and I'm younger than that age bracket!

TheDandyLion · 21/11/2025 13:26

I'd regift or sent to the charity shop. I choose the homeware items to fit in with my own style or at least have a special meaning to me, and I don't want to be reminded of a stranger's random 'that'll do' secret santa every time I get a glass of water. I'd much prefer a candle or chocolates, at least then I can use it and it's out of the house.

Jeeez it's a couple of drinking glasses.
Not exactly "tat" 🙄

AgentPidge · 21/11/2025 13:31

Yes, I think they're a good choice for Secret Santa - they're pretty and a bit different.

People are not 'miserable' because they don't like what YOU like FFS! Hmm

You sound like one of those insufferable indiviuals who tell people to 'cheer up,' if they're not walking around grinning like a fucking clown!

!

You can’t go wrong with a candle most women I know would love a nice smelly candle

I loathe scented candles, such a lazy gift imo.

dizzydizzydizzy · 21/11/2025 14:16

Sorry I don't like them. They look like something I'd give to my grandma.

Mokeytree · 21/11/2025 14:26

I wonder what age the people commenting that they look old fashioned are as Urban Outfitters are a young person's shop. I'm wondering if it's actually slightly older people thinking they are old fashioned.

Yep, loads of similar designs in Urban Outfitters, my 20 yr old student daughter has asked for similar ones from there for Christmas.

FranticFrankie · 21/11/2025 15:11

Like them- tons better than anything I ever got from a secret santa present
Which is why I stopped joining in 😊

BillieWiper · 21/11/2025 15:22

Yeah they're nice. Don't get devastated when you get some shit though. I once got a pack £1.60 Stilton from co-op. I hate Stilton. Another time I got 4 cans of Stella. That I was fine with! 🤣

catontheironingboard · 21/11/2025 15:27

My first proper job I had aged 21 did secret Santa. £10 limit. I got my person a fun and cute gumball machine with some sweets in that they really liked. I got…. a box of Christmas crackers (the cheap foil kind obviously from a corner shop or similar).

Obviously older and wiser me knows that this was likely from one of the men in the office, who had completely forgotten and just grabbed a box of crackers at the last moment for a present. But 21-year-old me was intensely disappointed and wondered if it was some kind of veiled joke or comment at my expense (the crackers must have cost all of £3 at the time). I’ve always tried to avoid secret Santas ever since, and have mostly worked in places that don’t really do them, thank goodness!

Tillow4ever · 21/11/2025 15:32

Don’t do what I did one year when I thought we were giving joke presents. I thought an inflatable boyfriend with vibrating body part. And printed a George Cloony face mask for it, cause I know she liked him…

ginasevern · 21/11/2025 15:44

I think they're quite pretty for the price. Makes a change from a chocolate penis. If it was me though I'd rather you gave a donation to the RSPCA. I bloody hate Secret Santa. The pressure people feel under to participate, the cost of living crisis and the mounds of fucking tat it generates are three good reasons to abolish this imported American ritual.

Needmorelego · 21/11/2025 16:15

@ginasevern why do people think there's pressure to join in?
Just don't do it if you don't want to - I doubt people even care if you do or don't.

I am over 50 and find them old fashion.

DD shops at Urban Outfitters for clothes and wouldn't be seen dead with these ones, for homeware she is all for clean lines, no pattern, nothing cute-ish.

She loves vintage for some clothes, bags and jewellery but shops in a vintage store for these.

Boomer55 · 21/11/2025 16:20

They’re ok for a secret Santa. 👍

IAxolotlQuestions · 21/11/2025 16:25

Not to my taste. But you’ll know them best.

I tend to buy a game they can play with family or regift . Eg Dobble connect.

Fair enough, in theory. Wherever I've worked there really has been pressure. I don't mean someone holds a gun to your head! But there is back chat and sideways looks if you don't join in. Even more so if you're the only one. I've never refused but I know a couple of people in various offices that have, and people did bitch about them or laugh at them. I know we shouldn't give a crap what colleagues think etc etc, but I think most people do. It's not nice to be "othered" or work in a stilted environment.

Ponderingwindow · 21/11/2025 16:44

Given the constraints of secret santa, I think they are great. Maybe not someone’s personal taste, but they are allergen free, don’t feel instantly worthless, and may be enjoyed by the recipient. If not, they can pass them along.

Yeah, they're not for me either. Awful things cause a waxy residue all over your house if you have them lit often enough. Especially the cheap ones. And no-one is buying an expensive one for a Secret Santa!
