Budget £10. New job Xmas event, I don’t know recipient - female aged 30-40. I’ve bought 2 for £10.80.

just curious if you got these would you like them?

What do you think of this secret Santa present?

It’s gorgeous and I would love it. I wouldn’t like alcohol, socks, gloves and the like. You get what you think 😁

Calyx72 · 20/11/2025 21:22

We do Elfster where you choose your wishes

Yes I can see they are not an entirely safe bet - I bought them on a whim as I like them whole browsing urban outfitters for something else.

I didn’t want to get alcohol as the type of job we’re in (social work) there’s often as many non drinkers as big drinkers.

Make it clear in the gift they’re from urban outfitters (with the label or something?) and it will make them seem more valuable.

@HelloGreenhaha yeah I’ll leave them in the gift box.

Not my taste but I quite like them as a secret santa gift. Bit more unusual. Would far prefer them to the generic christmas mug or bottle of wine!

Don't overthink it. If you don't know the person nothing is 100% safe. The recipient may love them, and if they don't then these are easy to regift/donate.

Ok so you need a non alcohol £10 generic 30 to 40 female secret Santa present, here are a few things I've known go down well at my place.

  • Christmas themed mug, hot chocolate, popcorn and chocolate.
  • Blind date with a book (Google it if you've not heard of it, I hadn't until recently) you can get pre done ones on Etsy or make your own
  • Nice scarf and glove set
  • Perfume from Next

For what it’s worth, I’d appreciate the glasses over any of these gifts.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 20/11/2025 21:14

bloody hell, people are miserable. I think they're pretty. a christmas themed mug would make me want to end it all!

Exactly this!
can’t believe the amount of criticism about pretty glasses but then suggest a Xmas mug!
Absolutely despise mugs, I have a full matching set at home and hate the odd gimmick ones (our theme this year is Mugs 😫)

PInkyStarfish · 20/11/2025 21:25

They look like they are destined for a life spent on a shelf in a charity shop priced at 75p.

socialdilemmawhattodo · 20/11/2025 21:26

I'm older than you, but think they are pretty. But are they glasses you can drink from, and possibly not dishwasher friendly, or for a tealight/candle?

crappycrapcrap · 20/11/2025 21:27

I’m still going to give them to her (and be grateful it’s not for @SarahAndQuack!)

Was just wondering what reactions would be.

I’ve got 3 Secret Santa’s this year - at least I know the other people - but I’m definitely not a secret Santa fan.

OP posts:
wahwahwahwoah · 20/11/2025 21:28

I wouldn’t overthink it either. To me a hot chocolate set suggested above is dire and so boring as is a bottle of wine. At least your glasses show a bit of thought. You just buy yourself a bottle of wine so it’s dull!!

lazyarse123 · 20/11/2025 21:28

I like them but am older than the recipient. Much better than socks or gloves.

I'llBuyThatForADollar · 20/11/2025 21:30

Sorry I hate them. But my SIL would love them.

crappycrapcrap · 20/11/2025 21:30

@socialdilemmawhattodo- I’m over 40 but recipient is younger. They are drinking glasses. Probably hand wash only thinking about it.

OP posts:
WildCherryBlossom · 20/11/2025 21:30

They are very pretty. Personally I would be absolutely delighted to receive them. Secret Santa is such a minefield isn’t it.

Needmorelego · 20/11/2025 21:32

I like those very much 🙂
Much much better than the "hand cream/bottle of wine/candle" that usually gets suggested.

MaplePumpkin · 20/11/2025 21:34

Aw I think they’re lovely, I personally would much prefer something a bit different like this to the classic mug/hot choc/fluffy sock combo! Great choice OP!

Rainbowcat77 · 20/11/2025 21:36

I’d think they were pretty when I opened them but then they’d sit in a cupboard gathering dust forever more because I’d have no practical use for them.
Secret Santa gifts are so hard though…at least these do look like you’ve made an effort to get something nice.

Tbf they’re all rubbish suggestions lol

honeyfox · 20/11/2025 21:39

I wouldn't buy them myself but would be quite pleased to receive them considering the other secret Santa options mentioned above.

What would you suggest then?

FrozenTootsies · 20/11/2025 21:41

I love them, op. So much so, I’ve just gone and ordered some for myself. Thanks!

ClaredeBear · 20/11/2025 21:46

i have exactly the same glasses and I love mine!

RogueFemale · 20/11/2025 21:47

@crappycrapcrap Sorry, they look crap, - random overpriced crap from TKMaxx. Straight to the charity shop if I were given these.
