Budget £10. New job Xmas event, I don’t know recipient - female aged 30-40. I’ve bought 2 for £10.80.

just curious if you got these would you like them?

What do you think of this secret Santa present?
OP posts:

I think they're lovely. Much better than hot chocolate, gloves etc

Twinkyinthecity · 20/11/2025 22:22

Much nicer than a box of chocolates or a dying plant!

Pollqueen · 20/11/2025 22:24

For those saying candles would be better, these can also be used as candle holders so OP could include a couple of tea lights. To be honest, I thought it was a candle holder

I like them and prefer to any other suggestions that have been given.
I am in the same age range as the recipient.

BauhausOfEliott · 20/11/2025 22:26

Do people genuinely believe anyone really wants to be given ‘fluffy Christmas socks’ or ‘a Christmas themed mug’? They’re boring basic tat that nobody is ever going use for the 51 weeks of the year when it isn’t Christmas. Gifts like that are literally the reason I started opting out of Secret Santa at work!

OP, those glasses are nice. Would I have picked them out for myself? Probably not. But would I think I think they were a nice little gift to receive? Absolutely yes. They’re a good choice.

PonkyPonky · 20/11/2025 22:26

I’m in the age range and I’d be really chuffed with these. I’d go for it. Way more interesting than food/scarf/biscuits or novelty tat!

PigeonsandSquirrels · 20/11/2025 22:30

They’re not for me tbh. But they’re not offensive.

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 20/11/2025 22:55

Imagine thus: 10 women in an office. Secret Santa, sensibly low budget. Your gift could be for any one of them - picked at random on the appointed day. Due to allergies & personal choices etc we had to avoid alcohol (fair enough), perfumed goods (no hand cream, no candles etc), anything containing dairy and some other allergens (basically nothing edible), nothing fluffy on the skin (no scarves) - and on and on. One year I bought a calendar, the following year I bought a mug. Then I left, thank goodness!
So your glasses would work fine. Buy them, but don't take it personally if the recipient turns up their nose.

Ok so you need a non alcohol £10 generic 30 to 40 female secret Santa present, here are a few things I've known go down well at my place.

  • Christmas themed mug, hot chocolate, popcorn and chocolate.
  • Blind date with a book (Google it if you've not heard of it, I hadn't until recently) you can get pre done ones on Etsy or make your own
  • Nice scarf and glove set
  • Perfume from Next

See I don’t think they’re generic. I’d hate all those things.

this is why 90% of secret Santa presents end up being dumped or given to charity.

TemuTrinny · 20/11/2025 23:06

I’d rather have the glasses. I think they’re a good secret Santa idea.

StrongandNorthern · 20/11/2025 23:11

I love them!
Much better than the usual chocs/wine/perfume/scented bloody candles.
Good choice.

CraftyGin · 20/11/2025 23:12

Very nice and won't go straight to landfill.

catontheironingboard · 20/11/2025 23:20

I quite like them but they still wouldn’t necessarily fit in with my other things. And I think I’d be a bit WTF / puzzled by them as a secret Santa present - why glassware? And wouldn’t they be a nightmare to carry into work/ to a work Christmas lunch or whatever? On balance I’d tend to say get something else a bit more neutral - decor items are always a bit risky as people’s taste is so individual. I’d go for something like a card purse from Oliver Bonas, nice upmarket choc bars, a couple of posh individual cocktails, or a reasonably neutral bath / hand cream set or similar. Something consumable is ideal. Or a book. What about a recent novel? Or a nonfiction book, the kind about landscapes or art or something similar?

mondaytosunday · 20/11/2025 23:22

Well goodness the last thing anyone needs is a Christmas themed mug so I think they are fine - no one expects much from secret Santa. The pic is very blurry though hard to see the quality. I wouldn’t sweat it to be honest.

Notsurewhatisnormalanymore · 20/11/2025 23:33

I would be over the moon with them tbh.

Grumpynan · 20/11/2025 23:40

i love them would be thrilled to be given those as a gift.

i am 61 though 😂 so asked my DIL 26, and she said they were lovely and hopes Santa has more

LoudPlumDog · 20/11/2025 23:47

Not for me. Minimalist here. Only have 6 plain glasses.

TokenGinger · 21/11/2025 00:11

I love them! I’d be very pleased to receive those.

purpleme12 · 21/11/2025 00:28

They're ok
Bit underwhelming
If someone was getting me glasses I'd want some funky ones

AmITheLastOne · 21/11/2025 01:09

I think they are really nice. I’d use them as flower vases.

ohwoaw · 21/11/2025 01:12

Love them

CoralPombear · 21/11/2025 01:14

Pretty! I like them and would appreciate far more than many of the gift ideas mentioned.

NuffSaidSam · 21/11/2025 01:20

The very nature of Secret Santa is that it's a bit of a gamble. You've made an effort to get something you think they'd like and spent the budget. This is all anyone can expect from Secret Santa.

Thunderpants88 · 21/11/2025 01:27

HelloGreen · 20/11/2025 21:17

I like them much more than any of these ideas.

Me too.

cheap perfume? Straight to the charity shop

@crappycrapcrap I think the are beautiful and I’m in the lower end of your age range

Nanof8 · 21/11/2025 01:35

I like them. Maybe fill one with nice chocolates and the other with hard Christmas candies then wrap in cellophane.
