What does this school mum actually think the rest of us are queuing for??

In general I arrive at my child’s school for pick up about 5 minutes before the playground gate is opened. Not on purpose, it just happens that sometimes the walk is quicker than others. Sometimes I’m the first one there, sometimes there are a few people in front, and others join the queue behind me.

One particular mum will turn up bang on collection time (fine) and just walk past the queue of people patiently waiting and stand right in front of the gate.
As if we aren’t all there for the same reason.

It actually baffles me that she seems to think that her need to collect her child is any greater than the rest of us, but so far haven’t said anything because I can’t be arsed with any playground drama, although yesterday I was tempted to side step in front of her just as the gate was open.

is this not just straight up rude behaviour?

I did read the thread it says gate can’t see where it says single person access as in only one person at a time can enter.

When our gate opens a bunch of people can all walk through at the one time. Regardless still don’t see the point of queuing and if there was one there is nothing to be gained going in first so who cares.

OP Says it. Small gate. Only one person through.

I think the silly arguments about whether it’s a queue or not are an aside.

the point of the thread is that there is a clear established queue (whether posters like it or not) and then this one mum ignores this and goes right to the front.

whether you agree with the queue or not. That’s still rude to bypass everyone.

She only says the gate was small later on, after getting a lot of heat. So I give limited credence to that.

I think it's fascinating that I posted on here about how invisible (physical) disabilities can mean people cannot queue but noone really wants to acknowledge that. Its easier to assume people are rude I guess. Nicer believe you have the moral high ground

gingerninja · 22/11/2025 08:08

She’s rude and entitled. All those saying the queue is pointless can’t explain why then, she needs to be at the front of it.

If it has no impact on what time you actually pick up your child then it's not really worth being bothered about. I'd find it weird rather than rude.

I always try and ensure I'm not early enough to NOT join the queue because the whole thing annoys me, it's a hangover from Covid times, before then everyone used to just stand about wherever.

Because that’s where she wants to stand? Because she wants to get through the gate first? Because someone has left a big gap there?

Doesn’t matter if she’s first or last through, they all still get their kids the same don’t they?

Exactly, you’ve just described entitled behaviour. She wants to do something so she can ignore others or conventions. The very definition of entitled. I didn’t mention advantage.

He why does it matter? The OP queues because SHE wants to. This lady doesn’t queue because SHE doesn’t want to. Everyone’s doing what they want.

Seriously? Yeah everyone in that queue is just standing there because they want to 🤣🤣🤣 I’ve heard it all now.

This thread is making my blood boil, I completely understand where you're coming from, I would be fuming at this entitled or thick woman. I just couldn't imagine seeing a queue and just skipping in at the front. Reading some of the replies on here I can see there are many similar CF's about. Same CF's who raised entitled cheeky bullying brats probably!
Definitely say "excuse me sugar tits, the queue end is just down there, yep those people you've just walked past hun, funnily enough we aren't a permanent fixture or a festive art installation, JOG ON!"

I mentioned the size of the gate on my second post, which is very much not later on and regardless of any ‘heat’ - I haven’t changed my stance on anything, so why would I buckle and fictionalise it’s width??

it’s the top entrance to the playground, not main, and it’s the size of a standard front door in width, probably higher in height. Alas, no school run today so I cannot provide you with exact measurements.

The OP has literally said on the thread that the place in the queue does not make any difference to when their child gets released. They are literally standing there because they want to. They could just stand in any order, in groups etc and it would make no difference.

Back to my original point then, if there is no advantage why does she need to be at the front of this queue? She thinks she is entitled to do as she pleases and disregard everyone else and the social convention that everyone else seems to be completely comfortable with. You and others are focusing on the advantage issue when that isn’t the point, the queue has formed to allow orderly entry to a space in much the same way you would queue up and file into a school assembly. There is no advantage to the position you have in that queue that but its there to maintain some form of order. A crowd gathering around a single entry point creates a bottle neck, a queue is perfectly sensible in this situation. Lady needs to get in the queue and stop being a dick. Don’t bother @ me again, I’m not interested in you defending shitty behaviour.

MamaBearof4 · 22/11/2025 09:09

Could be several things - is the queue the order of which children are released? It might be that her child has an issue and the teacher needs to get them out to their parent first.
It could be that they have some form of autism and focus on collecting their child, and they've been told "that's where you stand" and they simply now do it because that's what they were originally told without understanding the queuing system.
Could they be of a different culture/country where queuing isn't a thing?
Unless someone speaks to them, you'll never know.
I've had 4 children go through school, different primary schools and never had a parental queuing system. It was always the children lined up in the classroom and teacher played spot the parent in the little crowd outside in the playground and send the child out to them once eye contact has been made.

Hope you either get it sorted, or just work out how to not let it bother you xx

Rugbyballhead · 22/11/2025 09:28

I hate walking behind slow people so I'm likely to be the one that wanders to the front too. I want to walk at my own pace. My logic is, it doesn't help me get my child any quicker because we all need to wait once in the playground. I usually think no one would care because we're all waiting to just get in the playground...it seems maybe some parents are secretly seething!

How ridiculous. The queue is not actually required for orderly entry and any “sense of entitlement” is being imputed to her by someone with a sense of entitlement - the sense of an entitlement to force an unnecessary queue onto others. Nobody knows why the lady who walks to the entrance of the gate rather than to the back of an unnecessarily long line of people is doing it, because nobody has bothered to ask. Someone with a sense of entitlement has invented her reason for doing it, though, because they would rather feel annoyed than try to understand another perspective by talking politely and without aggression to someone who appears to be oblivious to other people’s unnecessary behaviour.

When you wonder WHO are the people who famously park like "idiots" to stay polite around schools, and who do they think they are, you just need to read this thread, they're all on it 😂

"i make my own rule because I am more important than you, so I jump queue/ block drives" same thing. Classic 😂

You can’t compare terrible parking to people deciding not to stand in a worthless queue. Anyone who parks on zigzags or yellow lines outside a school is a selfish twat. Just cannot get worked up about people standing around to pick their kids up from school. I just don’t get why anyone cares.

For what it’s worth we have the same set up and I do just stand in the queue- it’s convenient for me. I just genuinely could not give a fuck whether anyone else does as it does not impact my day in any shape or form.

Another entitled viewpoint from someone making assumptions. 🤣 I have seen someone who had parked across another person’s drive then accuse another parent of pushing into a “queue.” There is a big issue around schools with aggressive parents judging each other, certainly, and a lot of people who seem to favour getting wound up by others over remaining calm when others’ behaviour is having no real-life impact on them.

Rubbish. I wait in appropriate places and I park in appropriate places. Standing nearer the gate where there clearly is a space and it doesn't inconvenience anyone else because it makes no difference to when the children are released is entirely unrelated to selfish and dangerous parking.

TaterTots68 · 22/11/2025 10:27

This thread...wow! OP I totally understand why and how you are queuing - waiting for a gate to be opened. I also agree that it's rude to walk past a line of people who are also waiting for the gate to be opened. I share your frustration

You never came back on my point about physical (invisible) reasons people might struggle to queue though.
Just focus on your own life because you don't know what hidden battles other people are fighting.

I had a sharp intake of breath from an entire queue for the flu jab when I asked the receptionist if I could sit to wait for mine and they pointed me to a chair ahead of the whole queue as that was the only chair available. But if I hadn't sat down, I wouldn't have been safe to drive home afterwards. I didn't plan to or wish to jump the queue. And the receptionist and I had already agreed that I would be called through once it was my turn based on when I arrived.

I’m not sure if you’re the same poster who shared your need to sit down on a bench before entering the school gate and after, but no, she doesn’t appear to have any (invisible) physical need to do what she’s doing - and again, as she’s standing waiting to be let in what she’s doing isn’t helping to ease any physical part of pick up anyway. She’s not walking to an area to sit before pick - just an area she has decided she’d rather stand.

Why is there a need to queue? Everyone is getting in when gates open. You could be first parent in and your child be last out. Different if its a bus queue or checkout queue, but this is silly imo
