Random things your kid wants for Christmas

Not the obvious toys and gadgets. Anything that amused or bemused you on your children’s lists?

My 4yo wants a banana-shaped yellow jelly. Not jelly sweets, an actual jelly.

@southwestlife i also had a son that asked for a blue suit with waistcoat and bow tie…… we got one off ebay. I think he was 8 that year.

LadyGAgain · 18/11/2025 22:25

A melon 💞

A couple of years ago she was very little and wanted a big potato.

That’s the kind of thing that could become an annual tradition in my house…

A few years ago now, my son asked for a goat, insisted it would be very helpful as there would be no need to mow the grass!

Might buy him one when he gets his own house 😆

burblish · 18/11/2025 22:30

When one DC was about 3, they wanted a pink, squeaky, rubber elephant. That would be a dog toy, then. Same DC was also utterly overjoyed to find a ball of string in their stocking once.

A long time ago now, but DS asked for a Tesco bag. Not a normal bag for life, the ones that are about £1 with fabric handles.

Not a Christmas present but when my son was 2 we went to Disneyland. He decided the only souvenir he wanted was a bloody pen. Obviously did buy other things but when I tell you, this pen was in every family photo for the foreseeable future, he wouldn't put it down. Kids are so funny 😂

ItsameLuigi · 18/11/2025 22:32

My 6 year old daughter has asked for a dog crate. We don't have a dog or any animal. It's for her to play in when she's playing dogs. Had to explain as fun as it sounds for her, I can not buy a dog crate for my child 😂😂

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 18/11/2025 22:32

Nothing to crazy this year but in the past we've had:

  1. A whole Chinese dragon costume
  2. A vibrator (because he'd seen a TikTok of someone holding one down on the jump button to win a geometry dash level- he didnt know it had another use!)
  3. A "giant statue of myself made out of gold"

My DS is 12 he asked for a replica premier league football trophy.
He gave us strict instructions that it has to be the correct measurements.
At £70 for a bit of cheap painted metal I think it will be staying on his wish list as while I don’t begrudge him £70, I’m sure I can think of a million better ways to spend £70.

But if that’s what he wants? Why not buy it?

TheFormidableMrsC · 18/11/2025 22:38

My son wanted a can of WD40 and some Blutac when he was about 7. I’ve put them in his stocking every year since. Oh and a ukelele was a surprise request one year 😆

Dolallytats · 18/11/2025 22:41

Curiousrobin · 18/11/2025 22:03

Seems to have changed his mind now but my 3 year old originally wanted a Bloop and an El gran maja (Google them😄)

I was thinking this would be a kid's toy.....but no!! Wish I hadn't googled, I have a huge fear of under water and sharks (as you do when you live in East London 🙄🫣)!!

Comeonbabyblue · 18/11/2025 22:44

A pet pigeon......
He's not a little kid who just come out with random things. He's 12 and absolutely desperate for a pigeon 🤦‍♀️

I bought one for my dog 9 years ago when I got her. She hated it, my grandson, then 18months, loved it!!
I have a photo of him and my 2 youngest (then 3.5 and 8) sitting in it!!

CombatBarbie · 18/11/2025 22:49

At the time 3yr old DD wanted a yoyo, 3 days before xmas!! Did manage to find one!

6yr old other DD wanted a set of crutches.
And yes I bought her child's crutches from st John's ambulance 🤣 who was I to interfere with Santa's list.

soundsys · 18/11/2025 22:52

Iguessicoulddothat · 18/11/2025 21:55

Looks like there's plenty of banana shaped jelly moulds out there, will you be indulging him!?

I remember a cousin desperately wanting blue tak one year

Doesn't Santa put Blutak in everyone's stocking? It's a common request here as well 🤣

BiffAndChipAndKipperToo · 18/11/2025 22:54

DD wanted a pillowcase when she was 3.

The looks I got everytime she told someone what we wanted - I had to keep reassuring people that we do have bedding.

AliasGrape · 18/11/2025 22:54

When DD was 4 she wanted plasters.

When she was about 2.5 she was obsessed with the Booths Christmas book, used to take it to bed with her. She wanted a particular cake out of it which is maybe not that strange - it was a Father Christmas cake after all. We can’t afford to don’t actually shop at Booths but luckily the relatives who passed on the book were able to pick the cake up for us. Her little face when she saw it 😍

This year she wants a vegetable peeler. Ages ago we had a child safe one which was useless really and broke quickly, I’d forgotten all about it until on the school run the other day she asked out of the blue if Father Christmas did peelers. To be clear though there’s quite a long list of toys that come before the peeler on the wish list!

Tangyfan · 18/11/2025 22:58

Mouthwash this year from DD7.

The same reason none of us where allowed a mr frosty its expensive and shit.

SheWantsToBeMe · 18/11/2025 23:09

A few years ago, my son wanted a moss ball in a round fish bowl. We bought him one from the aquarium! He still has it! Has to change the water weekly.
When stepson was little he wanted his own tin of biscuits, his own jar of chocolate spread and his own bottle of BBQ sauce!

BeaLola · 18/11/2025 23:10

DS at 5 - a Father Christmas hat - in those days really hard to get a nice one

Also at 5 orange flavoured chewing gum

At 6 a waistcoat and bow tie plus pad and pen so he could get a waiter , also a wallet like Daddy's but with money in it

When my daughter was 4 she wanted blue tack so I put that at the very top of her stocking she went mad for it and kept saying it was her bestest present… couldn’t give a fuck about the silvanian family mansion and accessories that I’d spent a huge amount on 😂 she’s 26 now and we still laugh about it

Yeah what is it with the Blu Tack: I loathe the stuff.

One dc asked for it for Christmas and sibling kept trying to beg, borrow and steal it all year, despite not having asked for it. It's odd.

Calliopespa · 18/11/2025 23:14

I was not allowed Mr Frosty or Soda Stream

YourSpleenIsDamp · 18/11/2025 23:16

When DS1 was 10 he asked for a Lamborghini and a machine gun 🤣

This thread has been a revelation.

I thought I had bred the only dc with Blu Tack fetish in the world.
