Random things your kid wants for Christmas

Not the obvious toys and gadgets. Anything that amused or bemused you on your children’s lists?

My 4yo wants a banana-shaped yellow jelly. Not jelly sweets, an actual jelly.

DD wanted a pillowcase when she was 3.

The looks I got everytime she told someone what we wanted - I had to keep reassuring people that we do have bedding.

Do you think she meant instead of a stocking ie; to hang at then end of the bed and filled by Father Christmas?

ravenclaworslytherin · 18/11/2025 23:29

My 3 year old wants a James or Charles vacuum cleaner because our Henry is lonely apparently

This thread has cheered me up no end! My son, aged 3, wanted a Lightning McQueen umbrella and pants?! He got both… the umbrella was dragged around (with the hope of rain) for weeks!

Now he's a grumpy teenager and is almost impossible to buy for and I long for Lightning McQueen! Haha

My son aged about 7 wanted a bow and arrow. Not a toy one, apparently it had to be sharp. He didn't get it.

He's now 10 and wants a gun.

I should have been grateful with the bow and arrow request!

DS3 is our only hair pulling santa request child
An easter egg - we managed to get it!!
A surprise, on being asked was there any particular surprise or was he going to be happy with any surprise, his answer? Oh no I know what I want but I want it to be a surprise for everyone, cue us going through hoops to get to santa 1st when we brought them, to describe the child coming through and get him to tell him what the surprise was!! It was a can of Lynx spray. He was 4
Edible wallpaper🤔 and genius DH bought an abundance of coloured rice paper, at the time he started off the night in our bed and was lifted into his own when we were going to bed, so while he was asleep in our bed DH papered the wall behind his bed with the rice paper. He spent the morning licking it off the wall😂

DD2 once asked for “a road” and “yellow megaphone”

She got neither

My ds has asked for Santa to make a donation to a charity that gives hot meals to homeless people.
A noble wish, but not something I expected.

Beautiful

My daughter asked for an oven to be fixed 🤣

she’s 5 🤣

TheLemonLemur · 19/11/2025 01:02

When ny son was about 3 or 4 he wanted a 'cooking dress' more commonly known as an apron

Whichone2024 · 19/11/2025 01:03

My son has asked for a yellow pencil and a pillow so that I can sleep in his bed

mamabluestar · 19/11/2025 03:10

Love this post!

My DS asked for a label maker when he was 7.

10 years on my mum's fridge still has a label on it saying 'fridge' while we have lots of helpful 'door' and 'window' stickers so we never get them mixed up.

One Christmas, my daughter wanted nothing more than a pack of coloured post-it notes. Top of my son's Christmas list that same year was a packet of custard cream biscuits. Simpler times!

When DD was 4 she wanted plasters.

When she was about 2.5 she was obsessed with the Booths Christmas book, used to take it to bed with her. She wanted a particular cake out of it which is maybe not that strange - it was a Father Christmas cake after all. We can’t afford to don’t actually shop at Booths but luckily the relatives who passed on the book were able to pick the cake up for us. Her little face when she saw it 😍

This year she wants a vegetable peeler. Ages ago we had a child safe one which was useless really and broke quickly, I’d forgotten all about it until on the school run the other day she asked out of the blue if Father Christmas did peelers. To be clear though there’s quite a long list of toys that come before the peeler on the wish list!

Very similar to me as a child. I also asked for a box of plasters one year.

I was also obsessed with clothes catalogues which were a thing then. I’d cut out the children, glue them on paper and give them names.

NotAsDumbAsISeem · 19/11/2025 05:17

Not a Christmas request, but for his (I think) eighth birthday, I asked him what special meal he’d like me to give him.
His immediate reply was a chicken and mushroom pie.
Not the individual portion, but the family sized one, and no potatoes or vegetables- JUST the pie !”
His face (he was expecting a totally sensible “no” from me) when I served it up at the dining table was a picture 🤣

But if that’s what he wants? Why not buy it?

Because he puts them on my living room windowsill and it’s just tat!
Id rather use the money to buy something that’s better value for money.

SorrySalamander · 19/11/2025 08:10

My three year old DS has asked for baby chicks this year. I've had to explain that we don't have anywhere for them to live so Santa probably won't bring them but it did make me laugh. We have three murderous cats too, so it's even less practical...

My DS is 12 he asked for a replica premier league football trophy.
He gave us strict instructions that it has to be the correct measurements.
At £70 for a bit of cheap painted metal I think it will be staying on his wish list as while I don’t begrudge him £70, I’m sure I can think of a million better ways to spend £70.

completely get that.

Mine puts some ridiculously priced cosmetics on her. When she shows me I laugh at the things she won’t get because it’s just no way I can justify it.

i know some people may think that’s harsh but it works for us in managing her expectations sometimes so she’s not disappointed on the day.

The same reason none of us where allowed a mr frosty its expensive and shit.

I can confirm they are still shit. As is the slushy maker that’s gathering dust in my top kitchen cupboard. Technology has not moved on since 1984

MarbleHunt · 19/11/2025 08:15
  1. A dancing, singing Santa
  2. A giraffe to have as a pet
  3. Real wings so she can fly

The other one leaves lists of questions interrogating Santa about the practicalities of his job next to the mince pie and carrot.

NatalieNatalieNatalie · 19/11/2025 08:27

A rice cooker which we still use frequently.

A pet fox which Father Christmas didn’t manage to pull off.

This year - a shoe horn.

Achewyhamster · 19/11/2025 08:35

When dd was small (shes now 29 in may) all she wanted was a red balloon

It's all she went on about for weeks-my father (who is useless with kids) told me to buy a bag of them as one of her presents

She was delighted with her bag (and the red was her favourite one) but poor grandad wasn't

He had to spend christmas day blowing most of them up while muttering about balloon pumps!

Karatema · 19/11/2025 08:37

Some of these are hilarious; I’m going to be late for work and also sad I can’t join in! Nothing odd has been asked for by my DC or my DGC as far as I know.

I reckon you could one of those banana case things for lunchboxes and use it as a jelly mold with lemon jelly! If they’ve got air holes in line it with cling film.

We took DS2 to see Santa when he was about 4. He asked him for a pineapple 🍍. He got a pineapple in his stocking every year for about ten years on the trot.
