In awe of the lady in my gym class

She's got everything i want .. botox & lips (very subtle, looks great), nails always professionally done, posh designer gym wear, very regular trips to hair/beauty/spa salons.l, designer brands for other things she mentioned. I feel like a total sack of shit next to her.

She is also very lovely in general.

I bet she has some insecurities that are masked by all of those things.

Well yes, I think women who mess with their face are insecure people will disagree but it is how i feel, op she might be lovely but she is as insecure as you are really.

I just quit a 10 minute YouTube HiiT workout 3 minutes in. I'm in awe of you for going to the gym OP!

You’ve missed the point of what people are saying.

it isn’t about the woman, she is of course welcome to spend her time and money how she likes

its about the op being ‘in awe’ of someone because they do those things, and specifically, at a gym where there are so many actual awesome things

Actually I didn’t miss the point and my comment is still v relevant if you’ve read the whole thread.

People can admire different people for different reasons. If OP wants to be in awe of a stranger for their looks then that’s fine.. She may well have other people she admires for other traits too.

I clicked on this as I thought it might be an aspirational post about someone’s fitness. But c’mon-assuming someone who likes to take care of their appearance doesn’t also read? Really? I care about my appearance: the last book I read was The Haunting of Hill House, Frankenstein before that. Currently reading The Origins of the Family. AND I wear lipstick and nice clothes! I think we’re better than this aren’t we?

You forget you're on Mumsnet, which often isn't better than this.
God forbid any woman likes to looked good instead of a sack of shit, while also having depth of character.

I think people are posting as it’s a strange thing to be envious of in a gym.
If the woman was picked her 6 children up from school then maybe that would be more worthy of a comment like this.
Or if she worked in a clothing boutique, that sort of thing.
At a gym though, no it’s not something to be jealous of.
I remember years ago seeing a man- he was about 50- on the pull up bars. He was completely vertical and pulling himself up and down repeatedly. So he was doing a suspended handstand in the air and using his upper body strength to do inverted pull ups. Now that was impressive. I saw him and did a double take. I have never seen anyone else do that, let alone an older man. The only people I’ve ever seen do that are professional athletes and then only young ones.
He wasn’t wearing designer wear and didn’t appear to have had any cosmetic surgery done.

‘She’s got everything I want’

Everything you want is Botox and nails and stuff like that? 😕 Anyone can have those things if they save up for them or they earn enough money.

Are those really the only things you want for yourself? What about contentment? A job that you enjoy? Friends whose company you enjoy? A healthy mind and body?

Waitingfordoggo · 14/11/2025 09:09

The person I admire at my gym is the 86 year-old who does lots of exercise, has loads of friends and is always smiling. 💚

Zuve · 14/11/2025 09:10

Oh this happens sometimes. You think if you looked like her, had her life - your life would be sorted. But we don't know what she has been through, her life or anything

Exactly. Luckily my female friends aren’t like this, we encourage and love each other. I thought this gendered ‘pretty women who like fashion and make up can’t be educated/nice/clever/funny’ trope was the preserve of a few angry men!

Completely agree, a lot of these comments are very sad.

I'm making no judgement about whether you're right or not but you've just called someone a bitch on Mumsnet, so that's quite bitchy.

Now now ladies 🙈 😂 😂

Screwyousimon · 14/11/2025 11:56

All sounds very shallow and materialistic. There is far more to life than this
