She's got everything i want .. botox & lips (very subtle, looks great), nails always professionally done, posh designer gym wear, very regular trips to hair/beauty/spa salons.l, designer brands for other things she mentioned. I feel like a total sack of shit next to her.

She is also very lovely in general.

I’m in awe of my friend who is 60, works full time in a physical job and cycles thousands of miles a year. Women with Botox make me a little sad.

Why? I have/had bloody awful frown lines. They made me look angry. I am not angry. I paid a person to take them away from me. Now I look mellow and refreshed. I am 59. I now look more like the happy person I am.

Bench press is my favourite. Were you making gains?

I’m new to cross fit and Olympic lifting - it’s more complicated than it needs to be imo. But this lady made it look like a completely natural movement.

Oly lifting has always really impressed me! I'm determined I'm going to find a decent coach and do some training soon. I've paired back my strength training (a little) lately as I'm focusing on building a base over the winter for a marathon. Trying to hold onto as much muscle as possible whilst running long distances is a bit tough! I'm eating so much 😂

Anon501178 · 13/11/2025 21:57

Kindly, need to stop worrying about what others think and work on being happier in your own skin...Comparison is the thief of joy, and someone being 'fake' is not something to be envious of.

Sparklesandspandexgallore · 13/11/2025 21:59

I’m not jealous of anyone who has obviously had work done.
How do you know so much about her op? Is she a friend of yours?
I don’t wear designer wear to the gym and can’t say I admire anyone who does. Mine gets covered in sweat as I go to work hard not piss about.
Designer gym wear, what’s that?
My dd works out in a body building gym, she is a bikini bodybuilder and trains for hours a day. Even she doesn’t wear designer gym wear.

I’m in awe of the two men in their eighties who go to my gym. As far as I know, they haven’t had any work done.

😂

Foxyloxy89 · 13/11/2025 22:02

I thought you were going to say she was 80 and doing heavy weights or something. To be that groomed sounds exhausting!

CoralPombear · 13/11/2025 22:10

I think it’s pretty admirable to keep yourself looking good in this busy life especially as we get older. It shows a bit of discipline to me if someone keeps themselves fit and nicely groomed. Not sure why but just makes me think they have high standards for themselves and are a together type of person. I always try to make an effort for work / special occasions but can equally be found lurking in my local supermarket looking half dead on my days off whereas I know women who would never be caught out in such a manner. I couldn't bring myself to aspire to any of those things.

Same. Apart from being lovely, I’d like to be that.
I guess nice nails and gym kit is nice to have but it’s not an aspiration of mine.

frozendaisy · 13/11/2025 20:19

What was the last book she read?

What a weird judgemental attitude. I dye my hair, have Botox and also have an English literature degree. I also manage not to be a bitch on mumsnet.

Charliede1182 · 13/11/2025 22:17

I remember really hating on this woman who was on the treadmill alongside me in the gym a few weeks ago.

She was really lean, tanned, had long blonde hair in pigtails, and most of all she was running.

I'm disabled and can only ride the recumbent bike.

At the end I caught sight of her face, and she looked about 90, really wizened.

Honestly I don't know if that made me more jealous that she was really old and still had a body I'd kill to have, or less jealous because she was really old, or more jealous again because not everyone even gets to be old at all.

Point is, nobody has everything and all that jealousy didn't do me a fuck of good anyway!

Greenfinch7 · 13/11/2025 22:19

There's a lady in my pilates class that only has one leg. I didn't even notice till 3/4 of the way through the class because she could do everything with one leg that I can't do with 2. I'm in awe of her.

missymousey · 13/11/2025 22:24

Oh no! I clicked thinking I was going to read about some woman who was completely lovely / kind/ down to earth but also runs ultra marathons, is a top scientist and rescues baby seals in her spare time.

Botox and nails?! Nah not so much.

The eye of the beholder I guess. I don't want any of those things, or admire them at all.

Titasaducksarse · 13/11/2025 22:26

Again, there's some sour attitudes on this thread

duckydoo234 · 13/11/2025 22:30

I kinda feel sorry for people like this. I mean, obviously I don't know her, and she may have great confidence, a meaningful career etc., but when I see someone who's all about the looks, I feel it's pretty likely that's all they have. They have to look good to attract a mate/friends etc. because they have nothing else to offer. But the looks eventually fade, and even before they do, the person's entire existence is taken over by keeping up their looks.

Those same people probably feel sorry for me because I'm a bit of a rag bag and don't give a toss about looks, clothes etc. But I'm confident and financially comfortable, have a job I love, great kids who are smart and confident (and not all glam and pouty), a nice house, freedom to do what I like. I don't have to look good for anyone, I don't owe anyone anything, I don't have debts or other burdens to keep up with.

” Comparison is the thief of joy “ OP ..
Ah , don’t be be putting yourself down ..
When you go to the gym , it’s about feeling good about yourself after , not going in comparing ourselves to others ..
So start thinking positive & enjoying your work outs x

BartonInthebeans · 13/11/2025 22:31

Whilst I can imagine being envious of someone young and beautiful (and all good luck to her), I couldn't be jealous of the lips, Botox etc as I can't stand spending much time in salons and you'd assume she has to do that very regularly in order to maintain it all. Also not overly keen on all the questionable ingredients in Botox, gel-type nail finishes etc.

MeridaBrave · 13/11/2025 22:32

Hmm. None of that interests me. I have enough money to do all those things. It never even occurred to me that someone would really want these things.

I care more about things money can’t buy like health strength physique (muscle mass) etc

What are you in awe about? Her looks? Her money?

Tryingatleast · 13/11/2025 22:34

there used to be a lady in our exercise class who looked like Lara Croft- everyone ignored the teacher to copy her!! Turns out she swam every morning before she went for a run and played football most nights plus was in the defence forces!!!

LaserPumpkin · 13/11/2025 22:39

I don’t see anything in your OP to be in awe of. Everything you mention is available to anyone who can pay for it. So you are basically in awe of people with money, which seems a little sad.

It also seems odd to envy Botox, nails and spa treatments in the context of going to a gym - surely if you’d be in awe of anything it would be something relevant, like insane settings on the treadmill or the amount someone can bench press.

Aren’t gyms meant to be about health not looks?

CanadianCooper · 13/11/2025 22:42

You are in awe of someone who gets Botox and fillers? That’s so sad. I genuinely thought you were going to say she was clinically obese but comes every week and is committed. And I say that as someone who frequents spas, sometimes gets nails done, and turns out well, but also works full time and has a highly professional job. But it’s so sad you’re in awe of someone likes this and clearly the lips aren’t subtle or you wouldn’t notice…

MeridaBrave · 13/11/2025 22:45

arethereanyleftatall · 13/11/2025 21:42

It never occurred to me from the title that this would be about her looks. I thought it would be a 3 minute plank. It’s interesting how different people are - I wouldn’t notice any of that, certainly wouldn’t care, though if I had a thought it would who could be arsed with that, and I would never be in awe of someone because they had Botox.

I thought it was going to be she has amazing shoulders / arms / abs!! so yes looks but more about the gains she made in lifting.

Devilsmommy · 13/11/2025 23:02

Prelim · 13/11/2025 20:52

It doesn’t sound like the gym woman has low self esteem, I’m not sure how would deduce that? I wear make up, get my hair cut and coloured, sometimes paint my nails - my self esteem is pretty good I think as I love being me and my life. I can’t be arsed to go to the gym though, and I do have envy of people that go as I’m lazy and I think it’s good to have exercise (just don’t do it).

Just because people have interests in things you don’t like doesn’t mean they don’t like themselves.

If you're getting shit done to your face, that's low self esteem

What a strange question.

How the feck is the OP supposed to know? 🤦‍♀️
