In awe of the lady in my gym class

She's got everything i want .. botox & lips (very subtle, looks great), nails always professionally done, posh designer gym wear, very regular trips to hair/beauty/spa salons.l, designer brands for other things she mentioned. I feel like a total sack of shit next to her.

She is also very lovely in general.

Well this is a race to the bottom isn’t it! Woman looks after herself, is therefore shallow, takes herself too seriously, couldn’t possibly read books because they’re obviously for bare faced academic types. Have you all heard yourselves?

Exactly. Luckily my female friends aren’t like this, we encourage and love each other. I thought this gendered ‘pretty women who like fashion and make up can’t be educated/nice/clever/funny’ trope was the preserve of a few angry men!

Well just do the same if you want it? It’s completely fine to respect women, I don’t know why that would be weird?

Yeah this. ^

There does seem to be a flurry of threads on here this week though, where the OP is jealous and envious of some woman they know, who is apparently absolutely perfect! So weird. I'm jealous of no-one. No-one has anything that I want, and I don't want to look like anyone else, or be anyone else.

Very odd. Confused

Like other posters, I wouldn't want fillers and botox and all that shit anywhere near me - ever!

FernSaidSo · 13/11/2025 20:57

I opened this assuming you were going to say she was incredibly strong or fast or resilient

Why on Earth do you think having botox in your face and designer clothes on your body makes you especially valuable?

It's lovely to look nice and polished but not aspirational, at least IMO

I'd rather someone clock me in the gym because I lifted a heavy ass weight tbh

Do you have daughters?

Personally I take great care in making sure I do not pass on the message that your outward appearance matters. I am clean, healthy, wear appropriate clothes for the situation. I therefore have a LOT more time and disposable income for other things that bring me far more joy and add a lot more to
my family.

I feel sorry for women who feel that they need all that just to live in this world.

But you do think outward appearances matter. Why would ‘wearing appropriate clothes’ be an issue if you didn’t? There is no reason why this stranger feels she needs to do this to ‘just live in this world’.

Maybe the gym brings her joy? Why doesn’t everyone just wear prison type garb everyday if clothes don’t matter?

BeMellowAquaSquid · 13/11/2025 19:56

I bet she has some insecurities that are masked by all of those things.

Exactly this

YarraValley · 13/11/2025 21:13

Woman has better leggings than a different woman. 🧍🏼‍♀️

Maybe the lady in the gym is a nice person who doesn’t judge others on their appearance. Your post is incredibly shallow and judgemental. Do better.

mummymetalhead · 13/11/2025 21:14

I saw a post on instagram with pictures of all the Kardashians pre and post plastic surgery and it said ‘Remember, you’re not ugly - you’re just poor.’ 😂 Now, every time I see a woman like the one you’ve described, I think about this.

Brightlittlecanary · 13/11/2025 21:17

frozendaisy · 13/11/2025 20:19

What was the last book she read?

You think she asked her this? Or you think if a woman takes care of her appearance in the way she likes. she must be illiterate?

these bitter judgemental little posts are so dismaying.

Takingbackmylife · 13/11/2025 21:21

You don’t know if she’s actually happy though!

Hellohelga · 13/11/2025 21:26

That’s a whole lot of time and money to spend on your appearance. It’s not really necessary IMO.

DuchessofStaffordshire · 13/11/2025 21:29

pinkdelight · 13/11/2025 20:42

She might well be in awe of you. I look like a sack of shit when I'm working out too and couldn't care less as it's a gym not a catwalk. And that's the kinda self-esteem one can't try to buy in a salon. Own the red-faced sweaty sack of shit look. It's about health not injections and perfection. We all go to shit in the end and someone's still gotta love us, including ourselves.

I was just about to write almost exactly this so you've saved me the bother! You mentioned the red face and pools of sweat but nothing about grunting. Sometimes I let out a little grunty noise if things get heavy. I love it anyway and I do it for me x

cramptramp · 13/11/2025 21:32

Botox and lips can’t be that subtle or you wouldn’t have noticed.

Absolutely this! 💕

anothervoter · 13/11/2025 21:35

The fact that you can spot she’s had all these procedures done defeats the object of them, surely?

notacooldad · 13/11/2025 21:38

This. Or to not care about debt.

Not everyone is skint or living payday to payday!

I therefore have a LOT more time and disposable income for other things that bring me far more joy and add a lot more to my family.

She may have enough money and to spend time and money on herself and the same with her family. I know I can, so do plenty of my friends.

ManyManyBiscuits · 13/11/2025 21:39

I was also in awe of a woman in my gym this evening. She did 21 power snatches in a WOD and the bar was just floating up there. It was so impressive to watch.

You'd have loved to have seen me fail my bench press earlier in that case. I wasn't thinking about Botox and fillers when that happened.

Summerbubbles · 13/11/2025 21:41

Being pretty doesn't always mean being happy. Feeling like she needs Botox, fillers etc perhaps suggests some level of insecurity.
Focus on the things that make you happy instead of what others have or don't have.

arethereanyleftatall · 13/11/2025 21:42

It never occurred to me from the title that this would be about her looks. I thought it would be a 3 minute plank. It’s interesting how different people are - I wouldn’t notice any of that, certainly wouldn’t care, though if I had a thought it would who could be arsed with that, and I would never be in awe of someone because they had Botox.

Titasaducksarse · 13/11/2025 21:44

Ahhh, good for her. I can't believe the nasty, jealous comments your post has elicited.

Bench press is my favourite. Were you making gains?

I’m new to cross fit and Olympic lifting - it’s more complicated than it needs to be imo. But this lady made it look like a completely natural movement.

Of course she judges otherwise she wouldn’t think Botox/nails/hair was important would she?

HermioneWeasley · 13/11/2025 21:49

I too clicked on this expecting an inspirational story - like Anne who’s in her 70s and is at my weekly body pump class, or Elise who’s the size of a baby sparrow but lifts heavy.

spending money on your appearance is not an achievement. There’s nothing wrong with it, but why would you be in “awe” of it?

Conniebygaslight · 13/11/2025 21:51

Why do you want to resemble a blow up doll?
