Is anyone else worried about Sara Cox?

She looks broken! I’m really worried about her. This is an extreme challenge and I’m questioning why we need to watch someone suffer and struggle for charity?
I’m in awe and admiration of her, but I also want to give her a HOT bath and tuck her into a big cosy bed with a gallon of tea and a dozen hot buttered crumpets.
Is it just me?

I thought CIN was supposed to entertain us whilst raising money. Watching a woman cry and physically fall apart on live telly/radio is not entertainment.

Maybe we could have a celebrity Hunger Games next year for real, I could think of a few I would like to see do that.

Yes - all the shoving a camera in her face to tell her the new fundraising total is a bit distasteful. The first few times she didn't give them the tears they were looking for! Nor did she when they shipped in her dog and her best friend at pit stops as a surprise.

the80sweregreat · 14/11/2025 10:33

One marathon would have been enough.
Still raising money and an achievement!

Pay doesn’t reflect one’s worth or contribution. Pay isn’t a barometer of fairness
She has the status you and others ascribe to her. IMO she’s minor celeb.

Everyone has the status that others ascribe to them. That’s just life. She presents very mainstream radio program (i just
googled and it’s 12.6m weekly listeners). Whether you like her or not it’s irrelevant- she’s well known, well paid and is already in the public eye. Why do you keep saying she’s doing this to get a Podcast etc. She already does a Podcast, she’s had 3 books published and I’m sure she’s had many appearances on the One Show.

@itsmeafterall it won't let me quote you.

Kudos to your DH. Mine does the Nijmegen Marches most years (4 days of back to back marathon plus distance) carrying full military pack. Some years the temperatures hit 30 degrees and they cut the length of the civilian routes but the military route isn't reduced. Being in the Netherlands at least the route is flat. He normally sounds absolutely broken at the end of day two. Desert conditions must be brutal.
Every year he suggests to me that I should sign up for the civvy version and every year I give him a two word answer that rhymes with cluck pat.
Sara is doing a fantastic job. Rather her than me.

Arraminta · 14/11/2025 11:38

Er, you do realise that anyone's celebrity status isn't a static thing? They pay their agent and publicist to constantly refresh and promote their public image. The celebrity wants to be seen as always moving forward in a dynamic way. New deals, new contracts, new ventures, yes?

Just look at how Davina McCall totally hijacked the Menopause when her presenting gigs started to dry up.

Lostuser · 14/11/2025 11:44

Just had to google I wondered what this thread was about! Well done to her, what a fantastic achievement bless her. 👌

Fucking hell, bitter much? Can't believe some of the arsehole comments on here, throwing shit at someone who's achieved so much. How's your successful career and multi-marathon running going @Specialcrumpets ?

Never run a marathon and have no intention of doing so - it’s so bad for you. But my successful career is going well thanks - made it to Senior Partner level earlier this year!

Maybe so, but we do need women, like Davina, highlighting women’s health issues in the public domain. Not everyone understands the menopause or where to get help and support or treatment (it’s even good for educational purposes for men to be able to support their partners!)

Lostuser · 14/11/2025 11:57

@bunsnroses1 agree, some real spiteful bitches on this thread. We’re meant to support our fellow women not drag them down!

I bet you don’t even realise how deeply deeply ironic your post is, do you?

Goldenbear · 14/11/2025 12:04

Looking at the BBC rich list, I can't believe that Lyse Doucet is low on the list, I mean she is surely out in more dangerous situations.

It is surely good publicity though so helps your career if you are someone who makes their living in part from being known. Great that their is lots of money being raised. I am commenting on this without knowing what she is actually doing for CIN.

I’m merely stating a fact! There are some really spiteful bitches on here! Doesn’t a senior level partner has more important things to do than troll posts on MumsNet.

There not "their"

madaboutpurple · 14/11/2025 12:08

Plenty of people have donated in the past before the major challenges were set up. I do think the extreme ones need to be stopped.

Yes, perhaps. Although I watched her documentary on the Menopause and found it rather Menopause - Lite. Far too many close ups of Davina doing 'Concerned Face' etc.

Of course, but if she wanted to boost her celeb status why do a challenge which won’t reach significantly further than Radio 2 where she’s already a main presenter? You can see from this thread alone that loads of people had no idea she was doing this as the vast majority of the coverage is on Radio 2. I guess it’ll be covered on the CIN show tonight but then that’ll be it.

Did Vernon’s challenge progress his career? I can’t remember him doing anything extra after his, he just did the challenge and moved on.

She does that face a lot on Long Lost Families but to be fair it's probably genuine.

CoffeeLipstickKeys · 14/11/2025 12:13

SC getting talked about,so in that respect job done. Posters who didn’t know who she is,now aware of her. It’s a huge self promotion and of course it’s for charity

Oh please, she’s not walking THAT far.

I know crikey we are really underestimating the human body aren’t we. She’s not under fire in a war zone, no doubt she’s in a lot of pain and fair play to her but they are deliberately hard and meant to make the celeb emotional so they collect more money. It’s all calculated.

Isn't about staying relevant though, logically the more you do the better.

Yes, I've just looked up the challenge.

I’ve always liked Davina. I don’t understand the hate she gets. The poor woman hasn’t had an easy life, I didn’t realise this until I listened to her Desert Island Discs some years ago, and now all the health issues she’s had recently. Some people really do have a shit time of it.

CaminoPlanner · 14/11/2025 12:18

landlordhell · 13/11/2025 19:42

I know what you mean, why do we have to break people to raise money? She’s not an athlete!-

I know. I find it utterly disgusting. Do you want to give money to a good cause? then give money to a good cause. None of us need to watch someone undertake an entirely pointless, optional physical challenge in order to give to charity. It's a horrible mix of idolising people for vacuous endeavours and enjoying watching unnecessary suffering. I loathe all these celeb extreme challenges in the name of charity. I hate that we admire this shit when there are so many genuinely admirable acts that go ignored and undervalued.

Spiteful bitches?hey sister how is that a supportive comment? The sisterhood trope. Women supporting women sentimental guff. Designed to keep us in our place. Another variant on be nice…

Of course. I agree with this. My posts are aimed that the folk who are saying she’s doing it to get a book deal (already done), podcast (already has) and to appear on the One Show (already done- hasn’t she presented it occasionally?). Of course most things celebs do is to keep visibility- that’s part of the job. Can’t believe this is her only reason for doing this challenge though as going on Strictly or I’m a celeb would give a lot more viability for a lot less effort.
