I got my 10 year old up for school this morning,he decided he was going to wear shoes that tie but they was in a knot so I told him to get his warm boots since it was 21 degrees and he refused so he woke up my husband and told him I wouldn't get the knot out so he did so then he comes back down stairs puts the shoes on and then wants me to tie them for him,I continued to tell him to put the warmer shoes on so he refuses and then goes and tells my husband I won't do anything so my husband ties his shoes for him. While he was tying his shoes I heard my husband say I was a sorry momma.Im now hurt sad and crying.I have been told I'm sorry and would never amount to anything all my life and now I hear the same from my husband of almost 6 yrs.

Why wouldn’t you just get the knot out? I don’t get it?

ThirdStorm · 11/11/2025 13:45

I would imagine your husband would think you should be able to handle that situation by yourself and not need his help.

MrsSkylerWhite · 11/11/2025 13:46

Why didn’t you just undo the know. Who the hell puts their child in boots when it’s 21 degrees? (assuming centigrade)

Knot

WhereIsMyLight · 11/11/2025 13:47

I don’t understand why you didn’t get the knot out. If it was 21 degrees, your son also didn’t need to wear his warm boots. But if there are no special needs, I also don’t understand why you have to tie your 10 year old’s shoes. Or why your husband would then do his shoes up and call you a sorry mum.

The whole thing is weird but it seems like it might be symptomatic of something bigger.

SugarandSpiceandAllThingsNaice · 11/11/2025 13:47

OP, I think you might have a bit of a mental health issue if this has caused you to feel hurt, sad and crying. Getting a knot out of your DS shoes should not have been too much for you to do. I’d make an appointment to see your GP.

It’s probably Fahrenheit but doesn’t matter because in school it’s too hot to wear warm boots.

Cookingupmyfirstbornson · 11/11/2025 13:49

He's 10 and he can't tie his own laces?!

Jessicarodgers · 11/11/2025 13:49

21 degrees and snow means its time to wear boots and warm clothes!I don't understand the parents that don't make there kids where warm stuff when it's freezing out I mean honestly it's common sense.

Because for one I told him to wear his boots

This is a UK site we don't use Fahrenheit

EuroTour · 11/11/2025 13:51

21° isn't cold? Why didn't you just undo them for him?

Jessicarodgers · 11/11/2025 13:52

Well I could have but when I tell my kids to do something I expect it to be done but my kis refuses to do what he's told to do most of the time.

Because they’re indoors all day at school?
He is also 10yrs old which is well beyond the age of you dressing him. He should have autonomy to choose what to wear.

tapaw · 11/11/2025 13:53

21 degrees Fahrenheit is about -6 degrees C

so suppose op not in uk?

Why? Probably Fahrenheit, I mean?

Well because at 21 degrees Fahrenheit you might logically choose warm boots as that is below freezing.

I would imagine the dad should get his arse out of bed and help out!

Missing my point. I had assumed UK, where we don’t use Fahrenheit.

You don’t seem to like your child very much, OP.

Jessicarodgers · 11/11/2025 13:57

Actually I don't need to my GP I don't have one to see but I have bipolar 2 disorder and my husband knows it and he don't care he don't even understand the disorder or want to do any research!

OP posts:
Bringemout · 11/11/2025 13:57

Firstly your husband is completely out of order, his kid asking him for help doesn’t make you a shit parent.

Secondly your son should know how to tie his own shoelaces.

ErrolTheDragon · 11/11/2025 13:59

sorry your husband is so nasty, there is no excuse for what he said to you.
Wearing boots when it’s 21°F is entirely reasonable.
If your boy really wanted to wear shoes, unless he’s got a disability you’ve not mentioned he should unpick the knot and tie his own laces.

Jessicarodgers · 11/11/2025 13:59

Actually no if I let him choose what shoes to wear he would more likely wear sandals or some crap all winter.
