"well what can I say" and other social media pet peeves.

I'm wondering what else annoys people about social media?
I've noticed an increase on Facebook (I don't use others) of people starting a post with: "Well, what can I say?" This isn't the Oscars, buddy — this is a post about Remembrance Sunday.
"Admin please delete if not aloud" (their spelling, not mine).
"Need gone." Usually when on one of those local giving pages and it's 7pm at night wanting it gone that night.

Here on Mn when people say "Dear reader...".

BlueEyedBogWitch · 10/11/2025 07:17

”This one” referring to a friend or relative.
”Feeling blessed” you’re on a Tui holiday in Faliriki mate, calm down.
Tippy-tappy nails on stuff people are trying to flog.
Finger-wagging and head-shaking to show us what we should not be doing. Like primary school teachers spotting us doing something unspeakable at carpet time.
Current peeve is ‘Autumn days’ accompanied by pictures of leaves. Kids in leaves, dogs in leaves, whimsical ‘boots in leaves’ shots. And fingerless gloved hands cradling hot chocolate when it’s 15 degrees outside. Fuck off.

Victoriawould24 · 10/11/2025 07:27

Weird tributes to their kids on birthdays when the child isn’t even on socials.
Saying stuff like ‘to my sassy, fierce, beautiful blah blah , I’m proud of you every day blah blah.
It’s more a humble brag of their own parenting and very strange to me.
Usually accompanied by a heavily filtered photo of them and said ‘perfect beautiful’ child.

HollyhockDays · 10/11/2025 07:35

The putting up of Christmas decorations purely for content.

The “can anyone recommend” which translates as “can a company give me for free”.

A teeny #ad or #prinvite in white on a white background generally on a holiday the person could have afforded themselves.

I don’t mind the tippy tappy nails though!!

SydneyCarton · 10/11/2025 07:37

“Love you to the moon and back” does my head in for no real reason

BlueEyedBogWitch · 10/11/2025 07:39

“Can’t say too much on here” well don’t then, no-one gives a fuck.

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 10/11/2025 07:40

I started a thread about this but some folks thought I was being unreasonable getting annoyed by it - “Didn’t want to read & run”. Just seems pointless! Who’s going to know?! I read loads of posts that I don’t end up commenting on. If you want to offer support, just do it. That phrase should be in the category of “ need gone” 😂

Faircastle · 10/11/2025 07:46

"She only went and smashed it..." when sharing the news that their child has passed their exam(s).

Bingbangboo · 10/11/2025 07:48

'Why, oh why' is mine. Just say 'why'.

Iwasneverafan · 10/11/2025 07:58

Asking for recommendations or opinions followed by … “and go”

”I was X days old when I ….”

”… and just like that [child] is X years old”

[insert whatever you’re doing] time
Chill time
Me time
Food time etc

Referring to anyone as “this one”

Twats answering a perfectly normal question with “Google it”

threescoops · 10/11/2025 08:14

(Insert unfunny cliche observation) “comes to mind”

a blunt “recommendations for”, sounds demanding

(insert request) “please and thank you” sounds like a pass agg curtsy

HelpMeGetThrough · 10/11/2025 08:14

Anything with the response “What does ChatGPT say.”

It says fuck all, because it’s just software.

FanofLeaves · 10/11/2025 08:25

Every week without fail, on a Monday at around 7:45am, this same bloke will post on our local group page ‘any activities suitable for a one year old on today please?’ And every week, the same info gets posted about playgroups, stay and play etc etc and gets a 👍🏻

I just want to comment THE SAME THINGS THAT WERE ON ALL THE OTHER MONDAYS, PAUL.

I don’t know why it winds me up as much as it does 🤣

GrumpyNovember · 10/11/2025 08:26

TIA on a post asking for something. So for example - does anybody have X they are giving away TIA .... No love.
Also "don't spose anybody has got a X they are giving away" ... Somebody kindly and generously offers them one... Have you got a pic Hun? Not to see if it fits in the space but they have specific wants.
I was x years old when I learnt x ... And it's usually something really daft too.

A friend writes "hey lovely people in my phone"

"F" or "following"

That person who comments on everything. I had a friend who did this even to tell me she didn't know what I was talking about

When you ask a question and there's always someone who writes "sorry to jump on..." Start your own post! When you ask a question and someone replies asking an unrelated question

rainbowunicorn22 · 10/11/2025 13:29

there is a huge increase in anonymous postings. Nothing outing even daft things like missing cats, things like theatre shows etc., no reason for all this anonymous nonsense

Ticklyoctopus · 10/11/2025 13:45

Blah blah blah ‘and that’s ok’

It isn’t ok though or you wouldn’t feel the need to mention it

Doobiesista · 10/11/2025 13:47

'So, I did a thing' grinds my gears.

I know this does drive people crazy but I post anonymously after an abusive ex partner stalked me and did some pretty scary stuff like harassing people I’d spoken to on SM (on random things, people i didn’t know) and sending them personal and untrue information about me, following all my SM friends and trying to strike up private friendships with them etc.
That and my work policy on SM just means it’s easier for me to not have an online presence in any capacity.
I know it also gives keyboard warriors a free pass though.

Our local village group has banned anonymous posting, as it just lead to people being more arsey than if their name was on it.

DeanStockwell · 10/11/2025 13:54

So , hear me out . Blah blah blah.
Makes me skip them immediately.

GrumpyNovember · 10/11/2025 14:00

"spam me with" ... Ideas for tea or places to buy xyz that's simply a Google away.
... And go!!

Someone I used to know captioned their pregnancy announcement with "so we did a thing." When they had their second child it said "so we did another thing."
It made me feel a bit ill.

FanofLeaves · 10/11/2025 14:11

Thanks for all the birthday messages everyone, I had a lovely day and was thoroughly spoilt 😊

Whyyyy it makes me cringe so much I’m not sure 🤣🤦🏻‍♀️
