Who’s put their Christmas tree up?

OP posts:
ChristmasSparkles1 · 10/11/2025 08:44

Not yet. Will do it for the first Advent. Will buy a potted tree so it lasts for about six weeks. Also smell good.

Live in a country where traditionally they go up on Christmas Eve. Now a lot go up earlier and it is so much nicer to have extra light in December.

Trentdarkmore · 10/11/2025 08:48

I'm trying to last till end November
Last year I took it down before Christmas. Well my friend did as I was visiting my dying mum in hospital.
I don't know if I will last keeping it up till Boxing Day this year. I will do whatever I need to do to cope with my grief.

Myblueclematis · 10/11/2025 08:51

Last year I had two quite small, 2ft. fake Christmas trees as I got rid of the much bigger one. One for the dining room and one for the lounge.

I don't get them out until the first week of December, that's quite early enough for me. No way on earth would I have them up in November, I'd be sick of the sight of them by Christmas Day if I did.

I do buy a small real tree for the front porch, I do like to see that one all lit up and I leave that one until 6th January.

No not yet last week of school/college/work as everyone is winding down. Teens have mocks, driving lessons, full sport matches, basically still their normal timetable with homework and jobs.

If they came home to the Christmas tree up it wouldn’t make any sense.

They love Christmas, they love the tree, but they love time together, food, games, Christmas films, friends round. And we do all that from about 18th Dec through to New Year.

I’ve got them 2 new look great Christmas card games (which they will get before need the festive days in December to get full use) the Christmas jigsaw has been purchased, they want to construct some space city out of gingerbread (which is going to be a disaster but fun)

So we do all love Christmas maybe not as much as the people who put up trees now. But it’s just too early for us.

Screamingabdabz · 10/11/2025 08:59

I saw full on inflatable Santa and fake snow windows etc last week. I actually think it’s disrespectful to do that before remembrance. It actually isn’t the ‘season’ of Christmas yet - so I just think it looks weird and annoying. Grown adults that can’t cope with delayed gratification.

Dutchhouse14 · 10/11/2025 09:10

Nooooo!

Westfacing · 10/11/2025 09:10

I bought a poinsettia in M&S yesterday - it looks very festive! I might get out some fairy lights to brighten things up as the weather is a bit gloomy.

I get a tree about a week before Xmas and take it down on New Year's Day.

macshoto · 10/11/2025 09:14

Certainly not until December.

We always have a real tree and therefore if we did it any earlier it would probably have no needles by Christmas!

WonderlandWasAllAHoax · 10/11/2025 09:15

No way. Tree up at the start of December and no earlier.

JacknDiane · 10/11/2025 09:17

I don't judge anyone putting a tree up early for their mental health. The sparkly lights always cheer me up.

SouthLondonMum22 · 10/11/2025 09:19

Tree went up on the 1st and outside decorations went up yesterday.

ConnieHeart · 10/11/2025 09:25

Not for at least another month. I can think of plenty of other ways to cheer myself up right now

665theneighborofthebeast · 10/11/2025 09:29

Between the hour change plunging us into darker evenings and the second week in January when the days become perceptibly lighter again ( I know when the shortest day is but it becomes obvious then) I'm happy to cover anything in sparkle and twinkle and lights.
I like to enjoy the dark and the contrast rather than shuffle resentfully through a perpetual gloom until there is more natural light.
Im not judging anyone for sticking lights on things to make the most of this time of year. But people who do a cats bum face about how when and why other people should be allowed to do this. Yup. Judging them a LOT.

Nopicturesallowed · 10/11/2025 09:33

I'm hoping to get it up by Friday! My daughter lives abroad and is coming home just for two nights on Friday and I want at least the tree up for when she's home.
I used to be very strict that there were no decs up before 1st Dec, but a couple of years ago, my youngest daughter asked for them up in November. I kept saying no but then I thought, what difference does it make really? If it makes the kids happy and brightens up the house then why the heck not?!

CuriousKangaroo · 10/11/2025 09:38

It’s November! Absolutely not. We put it up in the first weekend of December, which is only so early due to young DC. Preference would be mid December.

RampantIvy · 10/11/2025 09:53

I'm weird because I don't really like fairy lights. They hurt my eyes. I prefer proper lighting to see by. I also prefer to keep Christmas to Christmas. Spreading it over several weeks takes the specialness away from me.

Cynic17 · 10/11/2025 10:00

It's November, FFS. There are twelve days of Christmas, therefore a tree should go up on Christmas Eve and come down on Twelfth Night.

Catonacoldfridgefreezer · 09/11/2025 20:22

This is obviously the new normal now putting your tree up in November… absolute madness!

I like to sit and reminisce how in my day (the good old days) the tree didn’t go up a day before the15th December and we weren’t bored with it by Boxing Day!

It’s really not normal.

littleburn · 10/11/2025 06:17

Growing up it went up a couple of weeks before Christmas and down by 12th night. I’ve brought it forward a bit to first weekend in December through to 12th night. Plus we have a real tree, so it’d be a sad specimen by Christmas if it went up now!

Interesting point someone made about mental health. I’ll try to remember that! I must admit I do judge people with their decorations up in November. I guess I associate it with inability to delay gratification. A bit like kids who find their Xmas presents hidden at the back of the wardrobe and can’t help but open them!

On social media a lot of the people who put it up absurdly early are the ones who take it down on boxing day because they're sick of it and just want it all tidied away. There's a solution for that!

LeavesTrees · 10/11/2025 10:16

All of the people sounding outraged that some of us have our trees up in November, but then say they are putting it up in the first weekend in December are making me chuckle a bit, that’s only 3 weeks time. 3 weeks must be far longer in some peoples worlds than mine!

as far as I am concerned, it is your house and do what makes you happy.

But as to your point, that 3 weeks isn't long,Christmas decs are usually up for a total of 3 ish weeks. Even less if you are one of the people who waits until Christmas week to put them up. Traditionally they were up for literally 12 nights.

So going from 3 week to 6 is doubling it, so it does make quite a difference.

But the main reasons people are giving is that they are still in the middle of autumn/remembrance etc and not yet in Christmas season, which is fair enough

DontGoJasonWaterfalls · 10/11/2025 12:38

I love tree up in November, down New Year's Eve. Lots of time to enjoy the twinkly lights and festive feeling, then entering the new year all fresh and clean.

TulipTuesday · 10/11/2025 12:44

Mine isn’t up yet but will be on 21st November.

I love having the decorations up, I feel so happy and content as Christmas is my ‘happy place’

I don’t take them down on Boxing Day though like some, I don’t get bored of them so they stay up until around the weekend before 12th night.

Interesting. Here in Portugal we have Magusto on 11th November, where people roast chestnuts and try the new red wines.

Ooo that sounds fun too! Never heard of it before. I might investigate further 🙂November could be jollier than anticipated.

Nanalisa60 · 10/11/2025 18:19

No it’s November, will put it up first Saturday in December, and will stay up until 6th January
