Who’s put their Christmas tree up?

I did see a TikTok this morning that said ‘the earlier someone puts their Christmas decorations up, the worse their mental health’ which I found amusing.

How are you all coping you early birds?

A friend of mine has had the most horrible, distressing time in the last six months and she put hers up this weekend. She find the lights and how pretty it all is really comforting and wants to enjoy it for as long as possible. I completely understand.

I always have a fresh tree and put mine up about a week before Christmas.

Blarn · 09/11/2025 20:52

I saw a front garden full of Christmas inflatables yesterday.

Probably true, I've been putting my tree up in November for 25 years and my mental health is in the toilet. My house is very pretty and sparkly though so I'll take that as a win.

No because it’s November. I’d personally be sick of the sight of it before Christmas if it went up now.

Shmoigel · 09/11/2025 20:54

Nope! I would be bored senseless of seeing it by December 1st!

Sourisblanche · 09/11/2025 20:55

I keep everything up until epiphany so it’s too early for me. I still have pumpkins scattered everywhere!

Stir up Sunday at the end of November is the weekend I go for it.

SueDunome · 09/11/2025 20:55

No, because it is Remembrance Sunday and it would be entirely inappropriate. Anything before 10th December is ridiculous.

Imisscoffee2021 · 09/11/2025 20:56

I LOVE Christmas. But I love it in December 😆 firm believer in keeping it there, or it goes on too long and it's meant to be a feast after fast so nice to have that anticipatory build up too :) plus we're in beautiful golden autumn just now, I'm still celebrating that lovely time.

Ooogle · 09/11/2025 20:56

Not me. It’s been so warm here, I was sitting in my sun trap of a garden the other day with the dog, no coat, and it was so warm. No clouds and autumn leaves everywhere. It felt more like September than November. I think it needs to get a bit colder and feel a bit more like it’s winter than still very much autumn before I can consider Christmas! I’ve seen lots of decorations up recently and definitely think it seems to be getting earlier and earlier. I will put mine up probably 30th Nov ready for the start of December and they will be up all December and down on the 31st. I think it’ll take away the Christmas magic if they go up now for me

ohdelay · 09/11/2025 20:57

I have and there are wrapped presents under it already. Its coming down Boxing day. Not even ashamed 😂

Peridot1 · 09/11/2025 20:58

No. Too early for me. I have seen lots of stuff on Instagram and FB with people doing it but the pages I’m seeing are US house decor content creator types mainly I think. I think that sort of content normalises it for people maybe. I prefer to wait till December although I think we started end of Nov last year as I planted some planters by the front door with winter cyclamen and ivy as DH was putting the outside lights up.

TheresGlitterAllOverMyHouse · 09/11/2025 20:58

I just know this thread is going to be full of negativity, people insulting and bullying others for putting Christmas trees and decorations up early when they should be allowed to put them up whenever they like without judgement or religious bashing.

I’d love to put ours up now, DP would prefer to wait until December, we’ve compromised and agreed around the 20th.

ARoomSomewhere · 09/11/2025 20:59

I put greenery & white lights up on 1st Dec & take them down at Candlemas. My tree goes up around 15th & comes down on Twelfth Night.

Mine comes down usually Boxing Day or the 27th as I love to have a deep clean of the house ready for the new year and honestly it takes 48 hours to take everything down and get it back up in the loft.

Pricelessadvice · 09/11/2025 21:00

I love Christmas but I wouldn’t feel festive putting it up this early. First weekend in December for me.

What the heck is candlemas?!

Allswellthatendswelll · 09/11/2025 21:01

It's still Autumn and really mild! I've got flowers in the garden still in bloom and pumpkins still to cook. We've not even had Armistice day. I just want to enjoy the season we are in.

steppemum · 09/11/2025 21:02

I love Christmas, and love decorating, we have lots of stuff up and loads of candles etc.
But I find that I enjoy the decorations for a couple of weeks, and then I am ready to return the room to less clutter.
We also have 2 birthdays between now and Christmas.
So our tree goes up in the first week of December, and comes down on twelfth night or when school goes back, whichever is first (feels really weird to have tree up after school goes bakc in Jan)

BUT I love the idea of outside lights being up all through the winter. Our lights died last year, so I am considereing buying some nice lights, and decorating outside of the house now and keeping them up til end of Jan.
But they would just be lights, not Christmas decs

One of the things I love about the tree is having it up until epiphany, I love the time between Xmas and New Year. I would feel sad taking it down on Boxing day. But mine only goes up mid December.

This is obviously the new normal now putting your tree up in November… absolute madness!

I like to sit and reminisce how in my day (the good old days) the tree didn’t go up a day before the15th December and we weren’t bored with it by Boxing Day!

Where on earth do you live that this is normal?!

ReignOfError · 09/11/2025 21:03

No, not least because if I bought one now, it’d be dead weeks before Christmas, never mind by Twelfth Night.

HappiestSleeping · 09/11/2025 21:03

Mine is up. Up in the loft where it lives until at least December. Sometimes it doesn't make it out of the loft.

BusyExpert · 09/11/2025 21:03

My tree and decorations go up the Sunday before Christmas and come down on the 6th January. If the sunday is Christmas Eve than they go up Saturday. We have a real tree , and it makes Christmas so much more special if the decorations are kept to the actual season
besides that putting decorations up early is so tacky….

notacooldad · 09/11/2025 21:04

Not a chance the second Saturday in December for us!

Bigearringsbigsmile · 09/11/2025 21:04

It's remembrance Sunday. It's not Christmas.
