Who’s put their Christmas tree up?

OP posts:
BogRollBOGOF · 09/11/2025 23:47

Mine's been up since the kids went back to school and I'm now fed up of it and ready for some Easter twiggy-shit and chocolate eggs.

I'll get the BBQ out in January.

Mine goes up the 3rd December, my daughters birthday is the 4th and tradition it goes up ready for her birthday. Mum used to put it up for me on mine which is the 15th . My daughter loves it.

millerpie · 10/11/2025 00:02

No absolutely not, it’s November, the weather is still mild and we’re having a lovely autumn where I live. I don’t rush the seasons. Have seen a few trees in up in people’s windows but I don’t care one bit what others do in their own home, hope it brings them joy.

I fully support it if it brings people joy 🎄✨
We always get a real one so early isn’t an option unless you want a dead tree for Xmas 😆

usedtobeaylis · 10/11/2025 00:25

No. Even my 10 year old daughter understands the effect of trying to drag a special time of year out for too long prior to Christmas only to whack it all away immediately after Christmas Day.

Put outside lights up today as the weather was just right (not windy, rainy, cold or sunny). But won't be switched on for a fortnight.

One of my neighbours puts theirs up on 1st November every year, it always cracks me up because there's always still a bunch of drunk and decaying pumpkins lying around the street for weeks yet. I do like their lights that aren't specifically Christmas decorations because I think it's a nice glow when it gets dark early, it's quite festive without being full on Christmas.

DontGoJasonWaterfalls · 10/11/2025 00:31

It's going up on Wednesday.

I shall sit and enjoy the twinkly lights and feel content that at least I'm not a saddo who judges when other people put up lights in their own houses ☺️

@pizzaHeart
Beaujolais Nouveau Day is the third Thursday in November. It’s the release day for young ( delicious) wine of Beaujolais. It’s meant to drunk within 6 months so every year really is a new batch. It was a thing in the 80’s but theres a few gimmers like me (and my local pub) that celebrate. You basically have a nice French meal, lots of cheese and drink Beaujolais. Beret optional.

Back to Christmas trees. The reason for negativity is that if you normalise something it isn’t special anymore.
Like take away used to be for special occasions. It’s still yummy but if you have it every week it’s just another meal.

Interesting. Here in Portugal we have Magusto on 11th November, where people roast chestnuts and try the new red wines.

barskits · 10/11/2025 00:41

One of my neighbours still has a gardenful of Halloween shit.

elm26 · 10/11/2025 00:54

First weekend in December we go and buy a real one and a few new baubles to add to our collection, I’m excited this year as DD is almost 3 and getting excited about Father Christmas and I think she’ll enjoy helping decorate the tree this year.

Everlore · 10/11/2025 01:25

I have. Our decorations always go up in early November and this will be our first Christmas with our wonderful baby who was born in early January so I've also decorated a special little tree for her room. I just love Christmas so much that I always thought it a shame to limit festivities to December!

MrsSkylerWhite · 10/11/2025 01:31

I’m a grinch who won’t put a tree up until 24th December.
Our eldest has their tree (trees) up already..
it brings them joy.
All good.

Beekman · 10/11/2025 01:36

No, we have a real tree and they’re not for sale yet. It’s also Thanksgiving here first, which is a nice buffer. We put it up the weekend after the Rockefeller Center tree is switched on, so usuallu the first full weekend in December. Even that’s a bit early for me.

FullOfMomsense · 10/11/2025 02:00

It's going up on Friday. I fly to the US on Saturday for my annual Christmas trip so we're starting christmas this week

Mikart · 10/11/2025 05:37

We don't put one up. Dh has put lights up in the back garden which is the extent of winter decorations for us apart from real holly in the house mid December

sesquipedalian · 10/11/2025 06:06

Noooooo!!
My NDN (American) always used to out her tree up the day after Thanksgiving, which I always thought was absurdly early, and come down on Boxing Day, but Christmas does seem to be getting earlier and earlier (Sainsbury’s, I’m looking at you - what were you thinking, having mince pies and Christmas puddings in mid-August?). My Christmas tree will go up probably the second week in December - but we always have a real one, and it’s nice to have a few needles left on it when I take it down on January 6th.

littleburn · 10/11/2025 06:17

Growing up it went up a couple of weeks before Christmas and down by 12th night. I’ve brought it forward a bit to first weekend in December through to 12th night. Plus we have a real tree, so it’d be a sad specimen by Christmas if it went up now!

Interesting point someone made about mental health. I’ll try to remember that! I must admit I do judge people with their decorations up in November. I guess I associate it with inability to delay gratification. A bit like kids who find their Xmas presents hidden at the back of the wardrobe and can’t help but open them!

PollyDarton1 · 10/11/2025 06:53

Nope, and I love Christmas. I have got some festive lighting up but I have that up all year round and switch it on when the nights get darker earlier because it adds warmth to the house. I’ve had a root around the decs just to make sure I know where everything is.

we have a real tree and will probably get one at the end of November - my son spends every other weekend with my ex so I’d like to get it up so he can enjoy it and we can decorate together. I normally do end of Nov in time for advent.

AgnesMcDoo · 10/11/2025 07:37

we will wait till December.

but if it makes you happy then go for it.

merry Xmas 🎄

Blarn · 09/11/2025 20:52

I saw a front garden full of Christmas inflatables yesterday.

Oh no - talk about spoiling it for everyone!

TheRosesAreInBloom · 10/11/2025 08:05

Absolutely not!

Nowheretobeseen · 10/11/2025 08:26

I have. I'm going to be extremely right up until Christmas so definitely wouldn’t have the time otherwise. I’m not even ashamed. It’s not hurting anyone and I bloody love Christmas lights 🎅🏼 So cosy after a busy day. My favourite time of year 🥰

TorturedParentsDepartment · 10/11/2025 08:35

I saw one house had their decorations up in September this year (I assume there's a reason behind it but it made me smile).

I'll put ours up in the next couple of weeks - I'm fine admitting I'm depressed as fuck and if it makes it a bit less miserable - I'll go for it.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 10/11/2025 08:41

Always a real one, so it won’t be before mid December here. However once the clocks change I enjoy seeing other people’s trees in their front windows - they brighten up the dark afternoons and evenings.

Slightyamusedandsilly · 10/11/2025 08:44

Christmas eve. Or the day before. And down again after new year.
