Name my puppy

Getting this little guy v soon and having an ongoing household debate about what to call him.

He’s a papillon x poodle, with 4 white paws, a white bib and white tip of his tail. He will be tiny when fully grown, about 3.5kg.

To complicate things I actually need two names for him as hopefully he’ll be doing agility, so he’ll need a kennel club name too. It would be nice to have his KC name and pet name connected in some way but that’s not a deal breaker.

I don’t want a human name, ideally.

What do you all reckon? (Uploading pic so it will hopefully eventually appear)

Ok so the shortlist at the moment is:

Gizmo
Cookie
Bramble
Mojo
Rocky
Waffle
Yoda
Rodney is amazing but DD would never allow it.
Spud
Trip

There’s lots more I like but sadly off limits because I already either work with or have friends with dogs with those names.

Rocky could be a good one because I am picking him up from the breeder who lives in a quarry 🤣

You’ll know which one fits him when you see him in the flesh

Yes that’s what I’m thinking. Got to meet him in person to know.

Batz
His ears are going to look like a bat. You need a one syllable name for agility and Batz doesn’t sound like a command. Plus if he’s as mad as my dog was at agility you have an excuse in the name!

He's going to be very, very cute with big ears and wavy/curly fur.

Yes one syllable would help! Although my existing dog has a two syllable name and it works ok for agility - although she’s my first agility dog and I wasn’t thinking agility when she was named.

And yes that’s exactly what he’ll look like! It doesn’t really come across in the photo but when I saw him on video he’s definitely got the pap ears - which is why I was thinking Yoda or Gizmo!

Wait, strike Rocky off the list 🤣. Just occurred to me that a friend who has a dog from the same breeder called hers Rocket, so that’s a bit similar.

Bobby and second name Boots
Two names with similar starting sounds for your two name challenge.

Theonewiththewagglytail · 12/11/2025 01:17

Ludo is a good name but I do tend to shorten names and he’d end up being Lu…which is a bit girly 🤣

I read somewhere two syllable names are good for dogs because you can call them loudly across a field where as one syllable names are harder to get that sense of calling the dog into the dog because howling Ann just sounds like a noise.

TheCatsOnMyLapAndICantReachMyMugOfTea · 12/11/2025 17:41

Ooh you could call him Dexy! (KC name : Midnight Runner)

We are going to need more photos this evening OP. It’s the law.

I was thinking the same

we can also then get a better understanding of his personality and what name he will suit
