Very Important Question About Crisps With Exciting Poll

CharliesAngles · 07/11/2025 11:49

Here we go, a bit of excitement for you all on a gloomy Friday.

What colour packet should Cheese and Onion crisps be in?

*Disclaimer - these are the regular size packets, often bought in a big with multiple flavours.

My favourite C&O crisps is Golden Wonder and I think they've got it right ✅️

They never have.
It's one of those mandela effect things.
People are convinced of it but Walkers have confirmed it never was.

Seriously? Well, I'm flabbergasted! I would have sworn under oath that they used to be green.

Londondreamer · 07/11/2025 14:45

I love Roysters. Lovely bubbly sort of texture. Yum!

Are they blue?? When I used to buy Walkers crisps (when my kids still lived with us) cheese and onion were in green packets and salt 'n vinegar were blue.

When did they change the colour? And I wonder why they changed it.

They didn't. They were a minor chip manufacturer, Golden Wonder and KP were the big boys and their cheese and onion is green.

Then Walkers really went for it with Gary Linaker adverts and became the market leader, with their blue crap cheese and onion crisps so people's memories conflate them.

Seabrooks were the best U.K. crisps but since they were bought out a few years back they aren't quite as good.

A few years ago I would have said green but now I think blue.

I tried some mushroom flavour Lays ones once.
Worst. Crisp. Ever.

I had some pretending to be Brie flavour and still bear the emotional scars.

IBorAlevels · 07/11/2025 14:48

Blue is sea salt and Green is onion, clearly!
I never understood why Walkers changed it from the colours that matched the ingredients. It's why prawn cocktail is always pink!
Did they ever explain why?

Thanks, you answered my Q!
Walkers is the same as Lays, right? Are they American? I know they wang on about using british spuds but a lot of companies do that to make you think they are from the country they are selling to and you're therefore supporting a native company.
Is Golden Wonder still UK based?

Devilsmommy · 07/11/2025 14:51

Blue packet and the walkers baked ones are obviously the greatest 😊

DappledThings · 07/11/2025 14:53

Talipesmum · 07/11/2025 11:58

Walkers. But they should be green as vegetables (onion) are green, and the sea (salt) is blue.

Absolutely. This is why Walkers have always been the wrong way round.

Factor37 · 07/11/2025 14:57

Green, because salt and vinegar has to be blue packet because of the whole salt-sea-blue connection.

PastaAllaNorma · 07/11/2025 15:01

Damn. Noticed the Lineker typo too late to edit.

Golden Wonder is owned by Northern Irish company Tayto now.
Walkers started in Leicester, UK.
They are part of the global Pepsi-co now but their factory is still in Leicester as far as I know.

Seabrook's

Nooooo... Seabrooks taste of margarine 🤢

JudyP · 07/11/2025 15:09

tayto 100%

StrongLikeMamma · 07/11/2025 15:09

Green obviously - blue is S&V!

Needmorelego · 07/11/2025 15:11

To correct myself Tayto is an IRISH company but also made in Northern Ireland under license.
Sorry to confuse anyone.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 07/11/2025 15:13

Am partial to the Co Op Irresistible ones... or are they cheese and chive? But chives are a kind of onion, so I'm going with that.

I really only came over to say that salt and vinegar crisps are food of the devil and how much I loved the Co Op Roast Potato crisps last year (but they haven't got them this year).

I don't often get to talk about my crisp preferences, so thank you all for listening.

MsWilmottsGhost · 07/11/2025 15:16

Cheese and onion should be green. Salt and vinegar should be blue.

Walkers have always been wrong. So there.

I only eat salted or salt and pepper anyway.

Needmorelego · 07/11/2025 14:29

There's apparently a gingerbread flavour Pepsi Max too.
That's probably ok because I imagine it will taste similar to ginger beer.
But I am too scared to open the Doritos.
(I had to buy them for....ermm....research 🤔)

Of course it is.
Very Important Research it is too.

Please remember to report back! 😄

Red and blue with a nice band of white in the middle (no.6 is a travesty) - the tricolour of the crisp world.

Although, there are crisps and there are Tayto so maybe I’ve answered the wrong question?

i think because we all used to eat Smith's crisps and they were green. I'm not sure when Walker's appeared, but they're Lays over here in Germany, which AFAIK is a US brand?

CharliesAngles · 07/11/2025 15:43

I wasn't aware that Lays is a US brand, we buy them when on the continent (well, Spain and Portugal anyway)
