I'm nosey.

On mine, somebody is asking whether a wandering cat is lost (answer: no, as usual) and someone else's delivery has been nicked from outside their house. They are warning us to rethink our safe places.

A collection is being arranged to give our posties Christmas presents, there's some gossip about an argument that spilled into the street a few nights ago, and a couple of young lads are offering odd jobs for Christmas present money which I thought was really cute.

Brightbluesomething · 04/11/2025 21:05

Someone is trying to give away a used numbered birthday balloon. Without success.

Oh that's nice about the presents! Maybe our street should do that.

Some parcels being picked up, couple of people acting a bit wierd nearby, a lost item has been found, someone giving some furniture away and someone's helping someone with some DIY 🥰. I love my neighbourly group.

FurForksSake · 04/11/2025 21:08

Someone has lost an owl.

EngineerIngHappiness · 04/11/2025 21:08

Yes missing parcels are a common theme in our group.

I agree! More details needed!

I often wonder if these balloon giveaways ever work out.

Bumping 'cos I love hearing about people's everyday street gossip.

We have been provided with a recommendation for a carpet cleaner (someone asked for one) and people are providing information about a protest about a local house building plan. There was a lost hearing aid discussion last week!

Gingerkittykat · 04/11/2025 21:32

Fireworks, firework displays, adverts for autumn and Christmas fairs, cake shed in someone's garden is open again. Scrap metal guy will be in the village next Tuesday. Earlier a man knocked on someone's door and she warned others to look out, it turns out it was the milkman touting for business.

No trouble, missing cats, badly behaved kids or bitching about named teachers for a change!

Bluevelvetsofa · 04/11/2025 21:33

The lights around the green are being replaced by solar ones. It remains to be seen whether they will last the night without fading.

Refreshing0 · 04/11/2025 21:34

We dont have one and if we did i would not be joining it.

londongirl12 · 04/11/2025 21:34

A street WhatsApp. Sounds like absolute hell!! 🤣

FurForksSake · 04/11/2025 21:34

There have been many humorous suggestions but no sightings of the owl. Someone thought they might have seen it this morning but it was a red kite.

The original poster hasn’t explained how the owl ran away…

It can be! But never not entertaining even when dull imo.

We also had the postie posting as she lost her watch while she was delivering, people suggested she retrace her steps 😆😆

My favourite post ever on ours was about a dildo that was left in the street. That had an amazing amount of mileage.

ilovesooty · 04/11/2025 21:37

My street hasn't got one. My friend has a lively one in her street. There is a street onion that is borrowed, returned and lent out on a regular basis.

NuffSaidSam · 04/11/2025 21:42

A parcel has been misdelivered to Vera and Mark at number 46. It's addressed to someone called Dave Surname. Kelly at number 4 thinks Dave Surname is at number 21. But whoever resides at number 21 isn't in the group so we can't check.

WonderlandWasAllAHoax · 04/11/2025 21:43

Why would anyone voluntarily join a street WhatsApp group? 🫣

LoopingStar · 04/11/2025 21:43

Ours is great!

It makes me feel like I live in a little village even though I live in London where the stereotype is that no-one knows/helps/talks to their neighbours.

redpickle · 04/11/2025 21:46

Mine is organising an advent window walk. There’s some tension because a few weirdos people are being particular about what number they are “allocated” and it’s making the route difficult! Some people missed the deadline to volunteer but still want to join in so are just going to “double up” with an already allocated number so there will be 2 number 4s, 11s and 17s and the route is fucked because they all live in different directions. Sheila suggested that maybe they could join in but just not include the numbers. Seemed sensible to me but was dismissed. It’s all very passive aggressive 😀

Same. Plus how would anyone ever find out whose cat is lost and whose just walking about the area otherwise?
