I'm nosey.

On mine, somebody is asking whether a wandering cat is lost (answer: no, as usual) and someone else's delivery has been nicked from outside their house. They are warning us to rethink our safe places.

Why is there always that one person who can’t help themselves and be negative on what is otherwise a lighthearted gentle thread?

Anyway, there’s a development on our FB group, newcomer to the area and has taken to not only introducing herself but has posted several times about how we can all recycle better, she’s picked up dog poo and it’s not what she expected moving here, anyone who’s growing pumpkins they’re about to go over so rather than waste them get outside pick them then deliver to her she will donate to a shelter. She wants to start a knitting club is anyone interested. So far no takers. I think our group is about to get a lot more interesting 😬

There's a lot of discussion about whether it's worth switching to a particular broadband provider - and the consensus is yes, it is.

spiderlight · 15/11/2025 13:15

There's been a corker of a drama on our allotment WhatsApp group, over a manure delivery and a gate left unlocked. Someone has been kicked out of the group. I was gripped 😆

How on earth are you going face meeting the evicted person in the street?

spiderlight · 15/11/2025 15:42

I have no idea who they are tbh! #manuregate 😂

Extraenergyneeded · 15/11/2025 16:26

Just the usual does anyone know whose front door this is as my parcel has been wrongly delivered there.

Chloe and her Dad have run a well known marathon in an overseas country at the start of the month, whole family abroad living it up on holiday supporting them where marathon was, raised loads of ££ for a local charity. We appear not to have donated to this worthy cause, however I always donate as Anon to Just Giving and could, if I chose to, assure them ours was by no means the lowest donation, but I am sitting on my hands because THEY KNOW THIS from 4 years ago when they did a similar feat. Sooner or later I will have to reply to one of Simon's snarky 'still time to donate' messages to chime in 'also don't forget to Gift Aid as that can add another £20 to your donation' (all houses bar perhaps one, are I'm sure tax payers, and we are definitely in the top 20% donators but they don't know it due to ours being an Anon) . Somehow I love annoying Simon (he is a twerp for the speed he drives his sporty and loud BMW in our lane, and the pretentious lycra outfit he wears when cycling).

Nobody took part in the last pub quiz of the year at our local pub. (We normally field at least one team of 6 from our road), and Fred has applied for TPO permission to chop down a diseased Ash and some other work to a couple of Oaks on his boundary. Jennifer is offering free Quince from her tree. I have declined this year as there is only so much Quince jelly one can eat. Arthur was 93 last week, currently 2nd oldest resident.
@petitpasta nearby there is a Kevin the peacock whose antics come up on FB

People are chatting about how nice our postie is.

I've refrained from posting a funny story, but I will share it here.

Doorbell rang and I absent mindedly opened it to Dave the postie.

Dave hands me small package.

Oh wow its smaller than I was expecting comes out of my mouth 😂

(I was expected a super large new flat screen).

Dave smiles as I realise how innuendous I just sounded 🤭.

He says sorry to disappoint you and jaunts off 😂.

One of these days I'll have to say oh wow its massive thank you 😊.

Neighbour offering plants from where they have dug up and divided theirs. Couple of hours later next door neighbour rings our doorbell and says she's acquired said free plants, but they are much bigger than anticipated, do we want her to plant some in our currently empty pots...she's got spare compost too. Yes we do, thank you very much. ( Retired fit and active neighbour who is much more green fingered than me - very happy to share cuttings, the odd ingredient and our electric car charger - we have a drive and an external fitted plug, neighbour has neither but uses ours and pays for leccy used at cost)

PauliesWalnuts · 17/11/2025 16:25

This weekend we’ve had requests for aerial fitters (two lost), the best stockists for fence panels, and how to get the bouncy bit back on a trampoline. Thanks, Storm Claudia.

EngineerIngHappiness · 12/12/2025 15:20

Parcels, giving away some mince pies, is anyone's broadband down, discussion about the remedial works on the block of flats. One of my neighbours does hair so I've also just booked an appointment this weekend so I'll pop round. Love the WhatsApp chat.

FurForksSake · 12/12/2025 15:32

There was some proper drama on ours recently, someone was ringing the female members at 4am and heavy breathing! Almost came to blows. I was not subject to a call, I’m trying not to be offended. 😆

Parky04 · 12/12/2025 15:34

We have 3 elderly people living on their own and have no relatives. We have come up with a timetable on what is happening on Xmas day. Rosemary is coming to ours for Xmas dinner (she has said yes). I was wary about joining the WhatsApp group but there is never any drama and we are all willing to help each other. Noone takes the piss!

SirChenjins · 12/12/2025 16:33

The drama's the best bit!

We were the subject of the street drama a while back. Our bin went missing, so I asked if anyone had seen it. CF neighbour posted to say yes, she had it because she hadn't been able to find hers, and I could come and get it from behind her gate if I wanted it. DH went down, huffing under his breath about how she should have brought it back given she'd taken it. He obviously didn't shut the gate properly (although he swears he did) because the next thing was a message appeared on the WhatsApp about how her dog had got out because SOMEONE hadn't shut the gate properly.

My next door neighbour who is also a good friend was messaging me separately to say the street was thoroughly enjoying the goings on!

This is the sort of drama I'm there for.

The bunny rabbits are on the loose again.

A few weeks back an irate neighbour posted to say someone had run over his son's rabbit and would appreciate it if culprit came forward.

They didn't but there was a lot of chat as to why the rabbit was in the road. Owner says they just escape sometimes so we need to be on the look out for them, we shouldn't be be speeding anyway and there are kids out on bikes etc.

Every single day this week someone has posted a photo of one or two rabbits out on or near the road. Sometimes they are in his front garden, sometimes on the road. The funny thing is that now the owner is dead quiet and not replied to anyone once.

The person who always nominates anyone else to take in any lost dogs also believes that one of us should take in the rabbits to keep them safe. This is the one that has never herself taken in a lost pet.

And then the usual, there is a strange car circling the streets. Very suspiciously stopping outside houses and looking in. Photo of registration and car posted.

3 hours later : Oh that is my Uber

Strange cars, speeding cars, noisy cars are daily regular occurrences.
