I don't want to pay more fucking tax!

1000 replies

marthainthemarket · 04/11/2025 14:17

I am the sole earner in a family of four, earning just under 40k a year and getting probably fuck all or below inflation pay increase next year, if I am lucky enough to keep my job ( public sector and employer needing to make massive budget savings). I barely cope now.

I am so fucking angry that Labour fucked up the disability benefit cuts. Other countries don't have run away disability benefits crises because they have a proper assessment process that means they keep a lid on people getting disability benefits who don't really need them. But instead of dealing with that, they came up with a crap proposed cut that wouldn't have dealt with the actual issues and they couldn't defend.

And having fucked that up they are now raising everyone's tax. I hate them!

NHS always ok on the whole where I am regardless of government

I don't really see how. It's totally rubbish now unless of course, you're not needing it and I remember it being really bad before Blair. Not as bad as it is now, but long waiting lists, A&E being bad, then Labour improved it all, massively.

I am in the same situation OP. I earn £52k per year. As a sole earner it just isn’t enough and I’m living pay cheque to pay cheque, frequently having to dip into credit cards at the end of the month just to pay for essentials. I have a mortgage to pay and a young adult DD to support (student finance count me as a high earner so her maintenance loan doesn’t even cover accommodation..) We had a far better standard of living 10 years ago when I was working part time on £35k per year!! Even the difference to 5 years ago is staggering and very depressing.

This is so unfair. Sole earners should not have to be burden same way that when two people are earning.

Where we are Labour has just shut a perfectly good minor injuries unit putting g more pressure on other hospitals

The country has been utterly impoverished by Brexit and 14 years of Tory incompetence and austerity. There's no point moaning about Labour's attempts to fix the problems they inherited.

The budget they did last time is causing a tax spiral, that’s the problem.

Barclays is forecasting that Reeves will be looking for £41bn in tax rises in the budget, up from their prediction of £26.5bn in September.

Livelovebehappy · 04/11/2025 20:29

I think that if everyone was 100% sure that increased taxes would make the NHS better, people wouldn’t mind paying extra, but I can guarantee extra taxes would not make any difference at all. Labour would just squander the extra money on pet projects. Because that’s what they do.

Rubbish. Labour have a long history of putting money back into society and you're labour bashing for the sake of it (I don't mind when it's based on reality).
You want squandering, may I remind you of PPE fast lane, millions on a press room (never used), helicopter shit... in fact, I invite you to look at this tracker of wasted money under the tories.

I also feel far more could be done to cut corruption and bleeding us dry

So many clever ways criminals milk the system id like to see far more pressure on these gangs.

RoyalImpatience · 04/11/2025 20:35

Well the debt will keep growing folks no matter what we do so shoulders to the wheel I guess all do our part !

So after the tax rises (and council tax rebanding so increases there) and loss of pension tax relief/lump sum will I be able to-

Get a GP appointment
Get an ambulance within a reasonable timescale
Have police deal with shoplifting and other crimes that they don't deal with just now due to shortages
Will our police be better armed to protect us.
Will A&E be not the mess it is now
Will they invest in things to make the future of the country better
Will they pay down some of our debt and restore our financial credibility

OR will they just chuck it into more PIP, housing benefit and other wasteful, badly run, abused services making no difference to the hard working among us but giving Kylie 'I'm so anxious and didn't bother getting any qualifications' Smith and her 6 kids with different fathers more income.

THAT's what's pissing people off.

This

Yes, this totally. Stop the corruption and the greed and our money will certainly go further. Spend it wisely!

It’s the uncertainty that is distressing me. I’m feeling really spooked by all the rumours about which taxes are going to be raised. After all this build-up I’m ready to face the music and hear what’s actually going to happen.

Yes, thats exactly what they want, all this leaking of potential tax rises. Then when the council tax doesn't double for Band G and H or income tax doesn't go up 2p we'll all be relieved. Its a horrible way to do things.

Well a single practitioner diagnosis of ASD based on a single appointment rather than a multi disciplinary assesment ADOS etc.
An ADHD diagnosis based on a remote asseement from a CBT 'practitioner', signed off by a supervising psychologist who has never seen the patient.

I would not consider either of those to be robust diagnostic processes? Would you?

It’s not a single diagnosis from a single practitioner, at all, how do know this, coming from as you said someone who’s an observer? You’re talking about one condition autism, because you don’t believe there’s a condition autism, does that mean every disability should be treated the same.
l’ve read so many of your comments, some have been taken down. When you have actual experience of disabilities(I’ve worked in healthcare for over 20 years) where you’re not just getting your ‘observations’ from the media, then there’s more of a discussion, not just your unfounded opinions.

Most of her elderly have paid in to their pensions through 50+ years of work! This used to be ringfenced but is not any more and is used to fund other benefits

Can people stop posting nonsense

@belovedandpureones please link to some evidence of the above?

Every government since 1964 has known about the pension crisis.

What on earth are you on about. You asked for examples of what are not robust diagnostic practices and I have given them to you. I don't know if english isn't your first language but you seem confused by the fact I said I was making an observation. I have no idea where you have come up with the idea that I don't believe in autism. I suggest you familiarise yourself with the guidelines around best practice for autism diagnosis and then come back to me.

I’m a single parent, a civil servant working Mon-Friday and work for a supermarket Saturday and Sunday. I work 7 days a week and only just break even and have nothing left. I’m desperately trying to find another role. I’m 50 and exhausted, this will finish me. One of my colleagues also works all week and a weekend in a hotel. Don’t know how we will manage.

It's a travesty that people need to live like this. So sorry.

I’m (still) more annoyed at Cameron for the start of all this, namely, austerity and being unable to appease the Rigjht of his party leading to Brexit, which of course led to economic suicide, impounded by Johnson which in turn lead to the rise of Reform. The Tories didn’t want to win the last election as they knew this shitstorm was in the pipeline.

We all know what tories are like….i blame a lot of this on the liberals…they supported Cameron in 2010 just so they could have a couple of ministers in minor cabinet roles thus ending with the brexit farce…I’ll never forgive them.

stuffedpeppers · 04/11/2025 20:56

We were in austerity ebcuase Labour spent all the monies last time they were in power.

Cut benefits it is the only way - they are out of control

I'm not the person you replied to, but I've had a few health problems recently and can get a GP appt within a week at the most. I've been referred to 3 different specialities in the last year or 18 months and have had my appointments for those within a month of being referred. The specialists have all been very professional and caring. I know I'm lucky, I feel lucky and appreciate the great care I've had.

And yet the Tories have just left us with far more debt than Labour ever did, and at least Labour left it all working, NHS, schools etc. The tories, by far, are worse with money, just look at the records over the years. You've fallen for lies by our (mainly) right wing press and the lies told by the Tories.

Just to be clear we can undo Brexit. The Lib Dems have a policy of re-joining the EU, but seemingly the people would rather be poorer so there you go.

Well I mean would we get the same deal again? I actually never truly realised the freedom we had to live anywhere in the EU + EEA
