I don't want to pay more fucking tax!

1000 replies

marthainthemarket · 04/11/2025 14:17

I am the sole earner in a family of four, earning just under 40k a year and getting probably fuck all or below inflation pay increase next year, if I am lucky enough to keep my job ( public sector and employer needing to make massive budget savings). I barely cope now.

I am so fucking angry that Labour fucked up the disability benefit cuts. Other countries don't have run away disability benefits crises because they have a proper assessment process that means they keep a lid on people getting disability benefits who don't really need them. But instead of dealing with that, they came up with a crap proposed cut that wouldn't have dealt with the actual issues and they couldn't defend.

And having fucked that up they are now raising everyone's tax. I hate them!

I mean wouldn't the report be anonymous?

I'm certain they'd guess. The other neighbours won't report them, because they're getting cheap gardening.

Everyone fell for the lies.

Some of us didn't

I feel similarly about Labour.

What baffles me is that very few people seem to link the economic damage from brexit (£100bn per year off GDP, every year forever with about £40bn a year in lost taxation) and the hole in public finances that now needs to be filled.

The remain camp did warn that brexit would make everyone poorer.

Could you post the source please?

TheaBrandt1 · 04/11/2025 18:10

Why do you want even more people to claim?! Insane.

Acceptance of state stepping in where men fail to support their families doesn’t help. You see it on here all the time. Some loser bails on his family and first advice “see what you are entitled to” 🙄. State has taken the role of the father.

There was even one woman bemoaning that if she gets into a new relationship she loses her benefits 🙄. Honestly I pay so much fucking tax I am sick of it. I accept it’s necessary but it’s got ridiculous now. Happy to pay in for good of society schools / hospitals / disabled in genuine need but we are practically communists handing over our hard earned cash so it’s equal for everyone. Where’s the motivation? Think I will give up for the day and lie on the sofa actually! (Self employed business owner)

Really? I thought you were a labour voter!

PeonyPatch · 04/11/2025 18:11

cottonwoolie · 04/11/2025 18:08

@PeonyPatch it's even more disappointing that those who fell for the lies think Reform will create utopia.

Oh god, yes. Sadly I feel it’s the same lot who voted for Brexit. Why on earth would you vote for such an unestablished party that barely know what they’re doing other than spouting out anti-immigration hatred.

I wish people would actually adopt some critical thinking when it came to voting, sadly people become very reactive and emotional - same with Brex-shit.

It’s going to take a loooooong time to get this country back on its feet, if it does.

Interestingly, the Green Party seems to be gaining traction - who I voted for last election…

We just need this!

Absolutely, I feel it's too late tbh.

MrFluffyDogIsMyBestFriend · 04/11/2025 18:14

Thanks a lot. I've been trying to get PIP for years and it's almost impossible.

Maybe have a look at how much money billionaires are taking out of the economy and squirrelling away for no apparent reason except for their huge egos.

Happyjoe · 04/11/2025 18:07

You just don't want to know facts, instead just carry on with your hatred of labour. Fine, but stop lying.

I don’t need ‘facts’. I rely on my lived experience and what I witness around me. Can’t get better ‘facts’ than that can you?

Do you? I go through waves of thinking that as well, but I’m ever the optimist that things can change - but it will take some bold action, patience and perseverance.

When my parents were still alive, a council worker asked me whether my parents were paying the council to cut their grass and hedge for them.

When I answered in the affirmative, he was outraged. (I'm an only child - my husband was clearly disabled following a stroke and my parents were obviously too frail to do it themselves by then. I was working full time and doing the rest of the gardening for them.)

He informed me that he was sick of finding himself doing the work for 'single parents' who weren't paying at all - in good weather, he was having to ask their partners to move their sun loungers.

Was Brexit that bad to us? Or just a minor scratch so to speak. Yeah it's a bit annoying to go on holiday and it's silly trade with the EU is a bit more costly now.

But is it that bad?

Knocked 4-6% off GDP.
A £100 billion hit pa.
So yes BAD.

Brexit and the economy: the hit has been ‘substantially negative’

Economists agree that leaving the EU has made Britain poorer, the only question is the scale of the setback

You must remember your lived experience is a biased perspective to operate from though. It’s not the only perspective.

ApplebyArrows · 04/11/2025 18:17

I don't want to have to deal with collapsing roads and rampant antisocial behaviour every time I leave the house. And paying a bit more tax seems like a far fairer way to achieve that than making life unliveable for the disabled.

Yes these seem to be the untouchables under Labour.

Why aren’t we putting some blame on employers who pay so little that workers need top-ups from UC to have a half-decent standard of living?

The Green party will have their hands as deep in other people's pockets as Labour. They are a scary bunch.

How can it be biased? Well if that’s the case your view is biased too!

OliverBabish · 04/11/2025 18:19

If I have to pay more tax, then fine. I don’t have a choice. But I will feel incredibly angry if there is nothing to show for it i.e. investment and improvement in public services. And our benefits system does need an overhaul tool. I work in MH and see too many people signed off work indefinitely that could work.

suburburban · 04/11/2025 18:20

belovedandpureones · 04/11/2025 17:41

I completely agree that there are people in a benefits trap - for example, people relying on top up benefits. However, in my line of work I also know people do claim fraudulently, particularly for disability benefits, as it is a nice little earner. As soon as the government speak about tackling fraud, the disability rights groups create and gov back down. A strong government would tackle this, weeding out those who can work and leaving more for the genuine!

Yes

awful when people claim fraudulently
