I had a really good sleep last night but wine helped with that and as I think I said before there’s no way I’m relying on that every single night. 🙈 I’ve woken up struggling to walk again though, seems my choice at the moment is mobility or sleep and I don’t get to pick both.

The Happiness Trap is all about ACT and a really good read. I’m trying to work my through. I’m a low intensity cbt practitioner / therapist and i am trying to work out how / if my service will train my in ACT.

I also use a lot of CBT techniques in my work @FurForksSake , the psychologist even asked if I wanted to lead the course! 🤣

But, as is often the case, we are the worst clients - know the theory, rubbish at putting it into practice for ourselves ...

I definitely needed someone else 'teaching' me.

FurForksSake · 08/11/2025 12:51

Yep! I’m doing a cbt course for myself and I’m rubbish at putting it in to practice.

Stressybetty · 08/11/2025 13:12

@Swanhilde I listen to Nothing Much Happens too on the Podbean app which is free. Never fails to send me off to sleep. Pups and dogs fed, puppy pen and pups cleaned and waiting for a pup to be collected. They are running late so far. 3 pups to sell. More time wasting enquiries for pups over the past week but getting used to handling these.

Swanhilde · 08/11/2025 16:12

Violas are potted up! Enough for 2 pots and a hanging basket. I also potted up a bulb lasagne and weeded and re-gritted my other pots of bulbs.

A good afternoon's work - planting bulbs always gives me hope for spring 🌷

Now I need a shower with my last bit of energy ...

What are you up to today if you have chronic illness? Thread 3
TeaAndStrumpets · 08/11/2025 16:16

Wow @Swanhilde how lovely!

TodayIsatrickyone · 08/11/2025 16:21

Hi all, absolutely awful night last night where I absolutely could not sleep leading to feeling absolutely dreadful today. I’m assuming it’s all part of the crash following that damn assessment on Monday as this time last week I was doing so much better.
My lovely son is here and I’m just not able to do much with him. I’ve been looking forward to it all week and I feel utterly exhausted and frustrated with everything. Our rescue dog isn’t coping at all with a new person in the house and has reverted to the barky anxious girl she was 2 months ago which is absolutely not helping and making me question what we’ve taken on which I haven’t done since week one! I’ve just got teary in front of my DD too which I try not to do.

I’ve had a good few hours resting in bed this afternoon at least but sleep would not come despite only 14 mins of deep sleep last night. I managed 2 meditations though ( I use insight timer) and telling myself that resting my body and calming my mind is helping.
Sorry for the negativity today and not responding much but reading the thread and typing this out has helped.
I shall def try the ‘Thank you brain’ tip.

FurForksSake · 08/11/2025 16:47

Sorry to hear sleep was so hard. I hope tonight will be a little better.

DS1 (12) has a friend over, friends dad had a stroke a couple of days ago and is in hospital in another city and was critical two days ago. I’m hoping he’s improving. DS is playing games and hanging out with him and just providing some normality for his friend.

TeaAndStrumpets · 08/11/2025 16:58

@TodayIsatrickyone that is frustrating when you have been resting up specially. Hopefully you will bounce back a bit quicker this time. It must be so lovely to see your DS, though. Your little dog will maybe calm down back to how they were, once the initial excitement subsides.

It's lovely to hear how well the meditating is going for everyone. I am going to apply myself to it this week. My friend is coming at the weekend, plus a flying visit from my little granddaughter. She is such a cutie, I'm looking forward to a cuddle!

We've just finished watching the last season of Astrid Murder in Paris so for tonight I've bought the first episode of Station Eleven. It has great reviews, and thankfully there are no zombies!

TeaAndStrumpets · 08/11/2025 17:03

@FurForksSake that is so tough for the family. It's nice for the boys to have some time together. Just keep the food coming ;-) DGS3 is 12 next month, and a bottomless pit for snacks!

FuzzyPuffling · 08/11/2025 17:11

Hello chums, May i join in please?
I have an autoimmune thing...bit of lupus, bit of sjogrens, bit of a mess!

After yet another feeble appointment with the rheumatologist this week, I feel like no one will understand what real "fatigue" is, plus all the other symptons.

But today I've done two loads of washing (dried on the line) and a bit more garden tidying. The begonias are put to bed for the winter!

TodayIsatrickyone · 08/11/2025 17:28

Thanks to both of you, think everything just feels so much worse on no sleep. Hopefully if I sleep tonight tomorrow might be easier for both me and Dippy Dog. She will settle eventually, I just feel bad that my boy is getting barked at in his home. He’s out at a rugby game with DH just now so he’s getting some peace I guess!

Glad you can provide some normality for your sons friend @FurForksSake what a difficult situation.

Meditation can be a bit hit and miss for me but I think it helps calm things down a little in a crash and makes me rest my body I guess.

Lovely you have 2 visits to look forward to @TeaAndStrumpets I bet you can’t wait!
We really loved watching Astrid in Paris… I was sad when it ended .

Welcome and well done! Lucky begonias will get a good rest at least. So many gardeners on this thread (sadly not including me) It must be a battle to get out there when you are feeling exhausted, but I imagine the weather dictates it.

Hardly anybody understands fatigue, so so true, but plenty on here will know where you're coming from!

FuzzyPuffling · 08/11/2025 17:50

Thank you for the welcome, TeaAndStrumpets. Excellent user name!

TeaAndStrumpets · 08/11/2025 17:53

@TodayIsatrickyone I think there are two more seasons to come but they won't be shown for ages!

TodayIsatrickyone · 08/11/2025 17:56

Welcome @FuzzyPuffling love your name too!

Orangesandlemons77 · 08/11/2025 21:49

This fatigue course I'm on isn't just for ME Cfs but all other people with fatigue from VA too illnesses. Wonder if there might be similar courses on in other areas as well. Might be worth asking about

TeaAndStrumpets · 09/11/2025 08:02

Morning all!

Managed to get through the night without the adrenaline rushes. it is so frustrating 'just' resting, so hoping the monks will help!

Nothing much happening today, just the Waitrose delivery. They've run out of organic lemons so I'll have to slum it with normal ones for my tea. How awful for me!

We watched Station Eleven last night so the plight of the mildly inconvenienced supermarket shopper rather fades into insignificance! Really really loved it, can't wait to see the rest.

Hope you all have a peaceful day.

MewithME · 09/11/2025 08:36

My dear Dad recommended Astrid. He always liked gentler things to watch. Despite spending so much time lying down and watching TV shows, I seem to have such a huge watchlist. I must cancel some subscriptions!

Very sorry to hear about the organic lemons @TeaAndStrumpets 😉Hope you will pull through.

Quiet day here but a mountain of laundry to do, and the house needs some sort of a clean. If I'm feeling I can, I have a new toilet seat to fit.

Seriously, is this my life? 🙈

I was too tired to call people yesterday so I have to ring my mother and bestie and another friend who had a big birthday this week. Three calls is a lot though. I will see how I go. Mum is always an hour.

OP posts:
TeaAndStrumpets · 09/11/2025 09:00

@MewithME Strangely enough when I'm well I quite enjoy working through a pile of laundry, it is quite satisfying to see it all clean. At the moment it falls to DH so I try not to be picky about excess creases etc.
I am with your Dad on gentle stuff, no loud noises and gore in our house! It is ridiculous to have these subscriptions....sod's law dictates the programme you want to watch will be on the channel you don't have. I had to buy Station Eleven by rge episode on Amazon but always press 'other options' to see the SD price. Our TV is only 32" and old so high definition would be pointless. I have the brightness turned way down, too, so not their target market.

I remember when DH used to ring his widowed dad for an hour every evening. They talked about crank shafts and carburettors etc. but obviously worked well for FIL to keep him interested. He was a real petrol head. He was still driving perfectly well aged 94.

MewithME · 09/11/2025 09:08

I think it only recently dawned on me why people have broadband and TV packages. Buying individual subscriptions is expensive! But I don't do anything else so I don't worry too much.

I must figure out how to get rid of Disney plus though. I pay annually I think and we hardly ever use it. I think it goes out and then I realise and we're then in for another year. 🙈

I yearn for simpler times. Life admin is too much in 2025!

I was at the opticians yesterday. I need new glasses. I was there ages picking. Then I've got DS next week and then I collect mine the week after and then no doubt I'll be back to get DS glasses again. They'll be sick of the sight of me, no pun intended!

I have doctors and dentists and everything needed yet again. It's exhausting on top of work.

TeaAndStrumpets · 09/11/2025 09:15

I had my eyes tested last November, no change but was going to get some new frames. My favourite dispenser (very patient!) isn't there every day so I was going to go back to choose some...One year later....still haven't been back. Simply must, but I know it will be a long job. I am the most indecisive person in the world.

BerfyTigot · 09/11/2025 09:31

I'm about to take the dog out for a short walk.

Then home for a nap as my sleep is dreadful at the moment and Ive been awake since 2am!

Might make a cake this afternoon, or I might just buy one depending on energy levels.

Other than that I'm going to be cosy on the sofa with a jigsaw.

FurForksSake · 09/11/2025 09:37

How do you do a jigsaw on the sofa? Genuine question! I live on the sofa and enjoy puzzles but haven’t for ages as I can’t sit at the table

FuzzyPuffling · 09/11/2025 09:43

I'm feeling sleepy today, but happily have nothing planned. Possibly a short walk to the supermarket ( conveniently situated at the end of the road) for a couple of tubs of Roses/ QS. We have them at Advent and it would make me feel ahead of the game.
Salmon, veg and oven chips for tea, I think.
