Confirmed by police about half an hour ago that the 35 year old arrested has been released without charge.

Jesus fucking Christ I don’t know what isn’t actually clicking for you here.

The police made a snap second judgment which they then rescinded. They did what they had to do to stop the attack. That’s fine.

What isn’t fine is then continuing to insist that it must be terrorism and it can’t be anything else, and continuing to invoke islamophobic tropes to make your point, when even the police have moved on from that theory!

Are you reading posts ok? I have already posted I know the update from the press conference, in earlier post.

There’s very little for you and pp to go on here. That I thought pre conference a terrorist attack would make people angry, that’s about it.

That’s not untrue, people would be.

Gosh you’ve got sympathy for all the people aside from the victims haven’t you? Multiple people ring the police and give the description of the perpetrator and guess what, the police will grab in all those who fit the description. If he was a white male with brown hair and a goatee beard they’d be grabbing those men if they were there, and bringing them in for questioning. The police were absolute heroes on the night and thank god the driver made the unscheduled stop to allow it to be efficiently handled or we’d have far more casualties.

I’ve not once said I don’t have sympathy for the victims. In fact I’ve said quite explicitly I do.

But I am actually capable of thinking and feeling more than one thing at once, and I can also express sympathy for an innocent man who has no doubt been through an awful 48 hours.

Maybe when you’ve been tasered you’ll feel differently.

He needs to sue and get compensation.

‘Sue and get compensation’?

I’ve heard it all now.

WeCouldBeNiceToEachOther · 03/11/2025 07:52

Boohoo76 · 03/11/2025 07:49

Of course it’s acceptable to have sympathy for this person. Did you also post about the Jewish man who was accidently shot dead by the police in the recent Synagogue attack?

Yes, but what the fuck has that got to do with this incident? I think that’s absolutely awful of the police and it should result in a hefty compensation payout for his family.

Why shouldn’t he get compensation?

Sevenamcoffee · 03/11/2025 07:54

When I consider risks to myself and my family I’m way more worried about people who have been failed by the mental health system and the nature of online content than I am about vanishingly rare terror attacks of the more traditional type. No idea about this guy obviously but some perpetrators of recent attacks have been known to the mental health system and so why were they not detained. Others have gone down rabbit holes of extreme online content not necessarily related to any clear ideology. The mental health system has been on the point of collapse for years, it cannot protect us without proper resourcing. This is the big worry for me.

Police make the assumption. Operation Plato. You agree with that procedure.

Police rescinded Plato after the attacker was arrested on Saturday night.

You keep conveniently forgetting that.

SouthernFashionista · 03/11/2025 07:55

nomas · 03/11/2025 07:53

Why shouldn’t he get compensation?

Compensation? For the police doing their jobs to protect the public? Get real. The guy should accept a genuine error was made, be relieved he’s alive and move on, with gratitude. And I hope he will do that.

As I said I listened to the press conference for the update.

Do you follow closely on X? Or BlueSky?

You are of course the only EXCEPTIONAL person on this thread who has the ability to feel empathy for two people at the same time. Plus you are lovely, and we are not. My goodness you’re pleased with how you turned out aren’t you? All the answers whilst he effortlessly flawless and no doubt beautiful to look at.

We shall have to just deal with being us, and gazing at you and your well executed and erudite posts and hope one day we are also able to attain the same giddy heights of perfection.

Because in the heat of the moment, when police have to make split second decisions, these unfortunate incidents happen. I am giving another example of this. I don’t blame the police whatsoever for the killing of the Jewish man, but I do have the deepest sympathy for his family. It’s interesting that we haven’t had a massive public outrage about it though.

Yes, me too. I live in a very rural area and we have plenty of homeless people who have severe mental health issues. Someone was stabbed outside my place of work about eighteen months ago. Turns out the guy that did it had severe mental health issues and was known to the services but they couldn’t do anything to help him.

There’s not exactly a public outrage about this guy either. I also haven’t expressed “outrage”, I just think the guy who was arrested deserves a bit of sympathy too.

Nooooo! A violent mentally ill man? I don’t believe it. Must have been a woman identifying as a man that day. Skewed the stats.

So you don’t want him to get compensation? I can just imagine you speaking to him: ‘Be a reasonable sort of person, look at the positives, you’re alive and not in hospital, now pop along, don’t make a fuss.’

You’d be singing a different tune if it was your husband who was tasered.

Edited

No I don't think he should get compensation. It would suggest the police acted wrongly and may affect their future response time in future mass attacks. If it were my husband he would just chalk it up to an unpleasant experience but thank god for the police and that he was alive.

Grateful for the health risks that come with being tasered? Are you having a fucking laugh?

The police are not above reproach and this should be investigated and compensation issued for the tasering.
