I'm tempted to book a holiday to tenerife or somewhere else cheap this week, but noone is able to come with me, so I'm thinking of going alone, but I'm a bit scared

Have you ever done this before? I just need some sunshine and to chill

Never done it before, it sounds absolutely blissful! Go for it, what’s to be afraid of?

BCBird · 31/10/2025 19:48

I went to Devon over Christmas for 3 mights- not the same. I was in the throes of grief. It was ok. I was out in day and stayed in at night. If u are in a resort there will be as much or as little to do as you want. Go for it. Just treat ursrlf.

Octavia64 · 31/10/2025 19:51

Yes.

i’ve done it many times.

it was bloody lovely.

do it.

Laiste · 31/10/2025 19:53

One of my early 20s DDs is going to Japan on her own next year ...

me? I don't even like going shopping alone! 🤣

Chinsupmeloves · 31/10/2025 19:54

Sounds like bliss! Try it, nothing to lose but a whole week of r and r to gain. Xx

Waitaminutewheresmejumper · 31/10/2025 19:54

Many times. Take a book so you have something to do around drinking wine and people watching. I love it, it's very relaxing.

24252627a · 31/10/2025 19:55

Ive done it. It was lovely. Book a package flight-transfer-hotel with easy jet and it’s easy and safe to do on your own.

NConthe · 31/10/2025 19:55

Kindle stuffed full of books and you’re good to go.

StewkeyBlue · 31/10/2025 19:55

Nothing to be scared of!

baddecisionsmakegreatcompany · 31/10/2025 19:57

Go!!!

TheSaltedCaramelPath · 31/10/2025 19:58

Go for it, it’s very safe indeed.
I always feel safer in The Canaries than I do in UK.
(caveat, as anywhere, to keep your valuables close by in urban areas)

I had a holiday alone on my tick box list. I did it when I had the opportunity to go to France just after the first Covid Lockdown. I visited somewhere I’d always wanted to go and flew/drove a hire car over in France to get to it. I felt so proud of myself afterwards. I’d do it again in a heartbeat. Yes you do miss having someone to say ‘wow look at that’ or whatever, and I missed my dogs, but ultimately it has given me the courage to buy a camper van and plan many trips on my own. It beats being screamed at by a narcissistic bully of a husband before we’ve even left the house 😜

Cherrypopping · 31/10/2025 20:01

I was thinking canaries or Cyprus

Did think maybe somewhere near nissi beach

Do you think I'd be better in a hotel or apartment

I feel a bit self conscious alone, but guess until you do it the first time, you don't know you can handle it

I flew solo to Tenerife October 2024. I was terrified so flew from the regional airport not far from my home. If it had gone pear shaped I’d have taken a taxi home!

Tenerife turned out not be my kind of place but I know others who love it.
Temperatures were up in the 20’s so that was lovely.

Hotel was huge and filled with “loved up” couples which made me a bit sad given my circumstances but I met some lovely Brits who they took me under their wing for after dinner drinks.

I walked about as if I owned the place. Inside I was quaking!
“Feel the fear and do it anyway!” You won’t regret it. I travelled with TUI.

Cherrypopping · 31/10/2025 20:05

I did pop my cherry going to cinema alone, and loved it

I enjoy eatting out alone

But this does scare me a bit

Im going in Feb, my first trip on my own..I'm 59!
Edit..add to that first trip I've ever booked as well! Caravanning in this country is exotic as I've ever hot!

PashaMinaMio · 31/10/2025 20:07

If you go self catering you will be alone in the evenings. That could be very lonesome.

If you go to a hotel you’ll be able to have a post dinner coffee or drink and hopefully will get chatting to others.

cestlavielife · 31/10/2025 20:07

Hotel
No cleaning up
Book one that does room service so you have that option

mizu · 31/10/2025 20:08

Went for a week on my own last February half term to Oman. Admittedly I did live and work there for a couple of years but 22 years ago!

I loved it. The freedom is like nothing else!

TheCurious0range · 31/10/2025 20:09

I'd love to do this, I've got a 6 year old so not much chance for a while. Personally I'd go for a resort/hotel because if you want company you're more likely to find it easily and if you don't that's fine, still someone else to make your bed and bring you fresh towels while you lay around by a pool.

Howtoaccept · 31/10/2025 20:09

I went on a city holiday alone once. The days were fine, but I felt self conscious eating at a table alone in the evening. While ago now so no kindle of phone. In the UK I would have a (physical) newspaper to read. Otherwise it was great being able to go at my own pace.

TeenLifeMum · 31/10/2025 20:10

I couldn’t do it because dh would be upset but that actually sounds amazing. Do it. Take a book and enjoy.

MrsHamlet · 31/10/2025 20:11

Do it. I love travelling alone.

shoogal · 31/10/2025 20:12

I’ve fantasised about doing this many times. I’m a carer and know my batteries need recharged when I start looking at holidays for one! Do it! I’ve had a couple of nights away on my own in the UK but will do an abroad holiday at some point. I would just lie by the pool and read. I wouldn’t go around half term though as it may be full of kids and therefore v noisy.

Cherrypopping · 31/10/2025 20:13

I really want to, I'd go to the beach, and chill in the room and watch films and chill on my phone

Not sure about where I'd eat tho
