When I was a teen I found a sex toy in my mum’s drawer. I shouldn’t have been snooping.

It made me think of her differently, and I felt a bit weird about it for a bit.

I’m over it now, I think 🤔

I would be surprised if that was correct. I thought vibrators were just a thing in online pornography.

Of course they’re not. It’s genuinely very normal to have a vibrator! As I said upthread, I was never able to orgasm without one (not during sex or masturbation) because of low sensitivity, so it’s also pretty essential for some of us.

Err no! You can buy them in supermarkets

I can relate to that. If you go to my mum's house you wouldn't know she has two children as there are only photos of my sibling, none of me.

Well thats just whammed me on the side of the head.

Just realised that there are loads of photos of my parents, my kids and my sister and her husband. You wont find a single one of me anywhere.

I am surprised its never crossed my mind before now. Sort of confirms everything I have always thought though. Funny that I am good enough to always be the one they call when they need lifts to hospital or some crisis or other needs sorting. Although thats been justified before because "She is so busy working!" whereas I am sitting on my arse doing nothing all day I suppose?

Going to need to think about this.

zazazaaar · 31/10/2025 18:53

I think people think all dildos are giant strap ons (though some are). Most of my friends use them for clitoral stimulation.

Think you need to broaden your horizons! I know more women who have them than dont. I dont anymore as I found that they desensitized me to the point where I couldnt orgasm without one so I got rid of it and retrained myself (as it were!).

OldBalkanNationalistGrumpy · 31/10/2025 18:59

Nothing of that sort. We knew their stories before they died. They both had other loves before marrying and kept photographs in their wallets

Not parents but an old neighbours glass eye when I was helping put some Heinz tomato soup cans (I remember it vividly) away when I was little. Scared the hell out of me and I never look at her the same way again

She wouldn’t have been able to look at you in the same way either, without her glass eye.

Blimey, that’s a hell of a group chat for a Friday morning!

”Morning all, do you still crack one off?”

indeed!

No sex toys in my house. Totally unnecessary if you have hands and a brain.

Nice to see you're not at all prudish judgmental.

There are an awful lot of brainless and handless people around (not me 😂)

Don't knock it until you've tried it .

I was a very nosy child and one day I went through my mother's underwear draw. I found my dad's service revolver from ww2

Honestly is this a topic of conversation? I have never asked my friends about their masturbation habits.

ImNotHeartlessHonest · 31/10/2025 19:10

We found out our grandad was a WW2 spy.

Relative went through his papers a few years later and found a lot of false passports and documentation for travel through Europe. He could always speak a lot of languages, so he would have been a natural fit.

You can confirm with the authorities, and they verified that it was true!

Only with my very good friends! And not for masturbation but for reaching orgasm. Very pleased, I spoke about it with some of my friends, as otherwise they would have never get to experience that. And vice versa, as it was a friend that advised me.
We talk about everything and I've known them for nearly 20 years and trust them totally.

Usually plastic, sometimes rubber and I have seen metal ones which must be rather chilly! There are all sorts of different ones. Have a browse on Love Honey, they are pretty informative.

I made my Mum a handmade gift for Christmas one year, I was a young adult living away from home at the time. My mum told me a few weeks later how much she loved it and used it all the time. She died suddenly and I found it later totally unopened and untouched. It really made me sad. Sad that she hadn't liked the gift that I believed to be so thoughtful, but really really sad that she knew I wanted her to like it so made a point of lying just to make me happy.

I bet your mum did love your gift but was "saving it for best".

I found KY jelly in their drawer at about 15!

I was sent to Boots once to BUY KY-Jelly for my mum. What was that about?! I was about 13 or 14 so didn't know what it was, and had to go to the counter and ask for it. I'm actually stunned, remembering this!

Found my adoption paperwork and social services report when I was 9

BudgetWurzel · 31/10/2025 19:18

My parents had a whip! A big proper one. They told me it was for a fancy dress party. I never saw them in fancy dress. Haha. Remember when I realized when I was so much older.

houseofisms · 31/10/2025 19:18

I didn’t find, more found out that my parents have 5 safes in their house stashed full of cash! I have no idea where from. I found out after I kicked my husband out and asked if I could borrow £50k inorder to get a mortgage to keep my house. They turned up the next day with £50k cash!!! “I sent your dad into the attic” 😬

I assume you didnt know that you were adopted until then? That must have been so hard for you to take in at that age.

An ex BF of mine had a similar discovery. I am so glad that there is so much more transparency over adoption these days.

Idontknowhatnametochoose · 31/10/2025 19:25

Me and a sibling found a vibrator belonging to our mother while sorting out her house after her death. Even in my 40s and being pretty liberal minded it was a shock. My elderly mum had lived alone for many years but somehow I still can't reconcile my memories of her with a sex toy. That's probably for good reason!

Thankfully I knew, my parents were open with me from pretty much the moment I could understand and always explained in an age appropriate way. They’d always said when I was old enough I could look at documents and that I’d be told everything.

It was the context of those documents that changed my opinion of both my biological parents and adoptive parents.

I was actually looking for my Christmas presents 😂
