I go to yoga classes. My DS does kickboxing for cardio and he wants to loose weight. My DD just uses her uni gym. What do you do?

I absolutely hate sports, all sports, so I don't do any and I haven't been to a gym since 1999.

I walk a lot though. I walk to work, I'm on my feet at work, and there's a lot of heavy lifting.
Don't drive so I walk everywhere. I usually do about ten miles a day.

Me too, minus the lifting at work. I walk or cycle everywhere.

Tarkan · 30/10/2025 11:45

I’m in my 40s but have mobility issues. I do physio-led Pilates once a week and I don’t drive so I walk everywhere even if it’s slowly and with regular stops to sit down.

I used to do multiple Pilates classes and a pole fitness class every week but that was before lockdown and my mobility got so much worse during that that I’m still now trying to get back to how I was then.

Zebracat · 30/10/2025 11:46

@OrderFor Balance exercises like yoga and TaiChi, plus strength/ weights for bone density. Generally, anything that helps maintain a healthy weight and keeps you active.

I do reformer Pilates twice a week, outdoor swimming 1-4 times a week depending on the slots at the lake, some of those swims will be in a lido if I can’t get to the lake.
i have a spin bike in my home office so do 2 spin classes a week.
ds and I go to the gym once or twice a week.
And I walk outside every day.
i try to do as much as I can early in the morning or during my lunch breaks so as not to impact my family too much! Fortunately my dc are adults and one teen now and dh is very supportive of me looking after myself and he’s the family cook so I have a fair amount of free time where I won’t be missed.

TheOliveFinch · 30/10/2025 11:52

@OrderFor to maintain flexibility and strength you need a combination of balance and flexibility i.e yoga/pilates/ body balance and strength training including developing core strength

Waitingfordoggo · 30/10/2025 14:07

@OrderFor Any movement is better than no movement! Having said that, those who do a lot of higher impact stuff or vigorous team sports can be more prone to injuries and arthritis later on. I know quite a few men in their 50s and 60s already needing hip/knee replacements after a lifetime of hard sports. They’ve looked after their cardio health but the joints won’t like too much high intensity as time goes on.

As others have said, strength and flexibility are probably more important than cardio as we age- so yoga and lifting weights are great. Test if you can get yourself up easily from the floor and see if you can do it without using your hands. If you can, then make a habit of doing it regularly!

Netcurtainnelly · 30/10/2025 16:45

Team Sports.

cheapskatemum · 30/10/2025 17:24

Pilates & kettlebell classes weekly, they’re the only ones I’ve found locally that fit in with my work shifts. Thankfully I love both! Other than that, I go on country walks and for the occasional swim.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 30/10/2025 17:55

Strength training class 3 x week.
Pilates once a week.
Run 5 k a couple of times a week.

SatsumaDog · 30/10/2025 18:11

Lift weights z5 per week, 150min cardio (inc 2x Norwegian 4x4), some high impact stuff like skipping/box jjumps a few times per week. Basically trying to stay as fit as I can for as long as I can and try to avoid osteoporosis and muscle loss if possible.

Sheknowsaboutme · 30/10/2025 18:24

Weightlifting walking and Pilates at home

VikaOlson · 30/10/2025 18:28

I have a physical job so am active in general.
Also do go to the gym once most weeks and do a couple of classes - aqua fit and a stretch flex class.

poids · 30/10/2025 18:32

a 30 min dog walk a day and that’s it.
Fuck all compared to the rest of you!

firstofallimadelight · 30/10/2025 18:35

I have developed disc issues I now weight train twice a week. Pilates once a week and swimming once a week. Plus physio stretches daily. I’m mid forties now.
in my twenties I would do a dance or Zumba class once a week
in my thirties i did yoga and aquafit every week.

greenplated · 30/10/2025 18:36

I go to the gym 3 times a week for cardio sessions. I have weights at home I use 3 times a week and I also often swim and do Yoga and Pilates classes weekly. I also walk everywhere.

BelatrixLestrange · 30/10/2025 18:37

Weekly? I walk and workout daily?

What can be done to not have mobility issues later on? I'm 55

Pilates and weight lifting. I'm 57, this is what I do.

theriseandfallofFranklinSaint · 30/10/2025 19:18

Each week:

Gym x 4 - 2 x cardio / 2 x strength
PT x 1 - heavy weightlifting
Walk x 1 - Fast 10k

At nearly 50, I'm the fittest I've ever been - love it!

morellamalessdrama · 30/10/2025 19:24

A lot of impressive exercisers on here. I workout four days a week for 30 mins. Two cardio type sessions (run, HIIT) and then two strength. All done at home, apart from the running which is outside. I have weights of 10kg which Isn’t super heavy by a lot of people standards, but that feels like enough for me to keep mobile.

I’m 45, work full time with two kids at home and this feels the right balance for me. I also try and walk around 8000 steps a day but would say I only manage this about five days a week.

a 30 min dog walk a day and that’s it.
Fuck all compared to the rest of you!

And yet a huge amount more than many others!
I do like to be out in nature as much as I can, I don’t really like dogs but wish I had one for the walks 😂

MinnieMountain · 30/10/2025 19:31

Swimming 3 times a week, 1-2km depending on how much time I have.

Pilates once a week.

I go for a walk every day for 30 minutes to an hour.

And I don’t drive, so going anywhere means cycling or walking.

gamerchick · 30/10/2025 19:36

Weight training, HIIT and mobility training.

I don't know why PP thinks dog walking is fuck all. After experiencing my mates dogs for a week and pretty much every day was a leg day I take my hat off.

user1498193554 · 30/10/2025 19:38
