I have been inspired to start a thread of joyful moments of things that lift your spirits and your heart!

🍁Do you like crunchy leaves?
🌄What is your favourite sky colour?
🥖What did you smell today that was lovely?
🐑Did you touch something soft and was it wonderful?

My day

This morning the sky was pink at 6.45am! This is my favourite ever sky colour and I was so happy to see it, I always say ‘red sky in the morning.. shepherds warning’ as if I know what this actually means..?

I popped to the shops today to find some new trousers but none of them were the right thickness or softness for me. It has to be just right, but I did like touching all the really soft jumpers in Next (for maybe longer than I should have..)

How was your day? Any joy to share?

Beautiful horse ride in the lovely autumn colours with a friend - my gorgeous horses always spark joy. I’d made a lovely pear & almond tart to use some of the millions of pears our tree produced this year which I enjoyed with ice cream. Some yoga stretching then settled down with a glass of wine to watch Girlbands Forever. Good Sunday.

I had a win! I phoned Waitrose on Sunday to ask if they had any of their Halloween plushies left. They had one left, so they put it behind the customer service desk for me and I went to fetch it. Still haven't got the toad though, I hope they bring it back next year. I got the little ghostie though. 😊 She's very fluffy.

I remember your first thread @BrainItch, your life sounds grand, much of it resonated with me (although my DP is similar to me luckily.) I'm the sort of person who despite (and possibly because of) my Autism can find joy in random things (things that are perhaps odd to others...) This is a lovely idea for a thread 🙂

It was dry and sunny this morning after several days of mizzle and drizzle so the school run was very pleasant. I'm lucky to live in a very pretty place and I get to walk past historic buildings including assizes and a castle on my way to drop my daughter at the bus station. The Autumn leaves around the ancient buildings were beautiful.

I also live near fields with animals, I've got my windows open and there is some significant baa-ing going on right now which makes me smile 🐑

I've got a rare fountain pen arriving from Taipei later, I'm a pen nerd 🤓I paid four times what it sold for when first released ten years ago but to find one these days new old stock is a hen's teeth scenario. I've been waiting weeks for it to make its way round the globe and I'm so looking forward to inking it up (as I said, perhaps odd to others 😀)

I love pear and almond tart @HeadNorth

Relative to north west England, just how far north are you? <consults map> 😀

Well I spend quite a lot of time in Fife so not that far away 😉

I've just Googled that recipe and it looks amazing. Currently on a diet but making a note of that for future reference!

I was sent a video of my granddaughter in the garden with her “sprinklers “ last night at a bonfire . She was having so much fun it was lovely 🥰

I wish we still had the laugh react!

I lived in Aberdeen for many years so the Fife coast feels very southern to me just waiting for someone from Thurso to rock up now 😀

I'm often guilty of not finding joy, this thread is what I need.
I have a rhubarb crumble in the oven which I'll eat with ice cream later.
I have started some new medication which has it's problems but I am without pain for the first time in two years.
My dahlias are still in flower and I have cut a bunch in every garish colour for the table.

BrainItch · 07/11/2025 17:17

So lovely to hear all your joy!

I am off for an evening of comedy and hopefully laughs. 100% one of my fave activities

Have a wonderful time @BrainItch

I hope everyone else has a fantastic weekend. I'm working Sunday but I enjoy my job.

PearlTeapot · 07/11/2025 19:19

I watched The Traitors final this morning and it was so good it had me laughing out loud at my laptop. A really fun show.

I am currently in hospital and haven't left my room for 3 weeks, but went for a 25 min walk in circles around the ward today. I'm exhausted and sweaty but felt so good to move my body and breathe outside of my room.

DS realised he had upset DW and why, without being told. He's autistic and this is a big step.

Enjoy the comedy @BrainItch 😘

SapphireSeptember · 15/01/2026 23:32

DS has started walking by himself and it's delightful seeing him toddling around the living room, meanwhile my cool Harry Potter nail polishes from Orly have arrived (all the way from California!) I love nail polish and Harry Potter. 😁

Jux · 16/01/2026 00:08

Mainly flowers, but bees and small things like these.
i’m also delighted when I can get out of bed, get dressed and get downstairs, let alone stay downstairs all day (doesn’t happen often in Winter).
when the sun’s out and warms my kitchen.
my cats are an endless source of delight joy and laughter. When The Void purrs at me and settles down beside me, when the dumb one keeps my feet warm, when the little one falls off the table and The Lump lets me warm my hands on his tummy….
so many moments of joy and delight 8n my life, I am a lucky lucky woman. I haven’t even mentioned dd and dh yet….

Birds! This year I have seen a yellow wagtail (rare) in a neighbour's garden, and a spotted woodpecker, nuthatch, parakeets and the usual robins, pigeons, collared doves, blue tits and sparrows in our garden, and a goldfinch. They really do bring joy.

Jugendstiel · 17/01/2026 09:46

And my new cable knit cashmere sweater - on sale and bought with Christmas money. It is like living in a hug. I rarely take it off.

LikeNoYeah · 17/01/2026 09:52

I’ve had a really hard, shitty week working long hours, early starts, got a terrible cold, weather shit…BUT…there have been some wonderful, dramatic morning skies!

One morning the sky was completely pink at sun rise. Another morning it was glowing and almost silver, with huge steaks of white cloud, and looked like something out of a fantasy/sci-fi film. It lifted my heart.

Here you go! Shipping to the UK is £15, which isn't too bad, and I didn't get stung by any customs fees. 😊

Wow, I did not know that I needed this in my life - thank you!!

You're welcome! I got the set of the four house colours (Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Slytherin and Ravenclaw,) Colorvaria No 1, Cloak of Invisibility, Lumos, another bottle of Ravenclaw for my friend, and I already have the Butterbeer nail polish, as well as getting a few other bits. (They had a 15% discount code when I ordered, and I'd had the stuff in my basket for ages. Thought I might as well spend my Christmas money!)

These are really cool.

Can't get these in the UK. (Actually can't get any of what I ordered in the UK, which is very annoying.)

I'll shut up now. 😅

DD’s got a friend coming round this afternoon to do some baking!!!!! We shall have cake - joy joy joy!
Today I have been able to get up, get dressed, get downstairs, do the bathroom stuff, feed the cats, make dh a cup of coffee and take it to him in bed - this sounds like nothing but is a massively big deal to me - in the winter I spend most of my time either in bed upstairs or in hospital, but today I am being a normal person. This is huge joy to everyone!
