What’s your favourite album of all time

DH and I embraced the shuffle generation very early on from our very first iPod and before that mixed tapes. It seems like decades since we last actually listened to an album.

today we had a long drive so we’ve done
Bat out of Hell (I’d forgotten how good that was)
brothers in arms
a Joni Mitchell one was a bit dreary
Ella Fitzgerald gold (absolutely brilliant)
Invisible touch (it seems the fuck up your life lyric has been cleansed on Spotify)

give me your recommendations we are very open minded with music tastes and genres the only thing that brings the shutters slamming down is rap

My absolute favourite is Dark Side of the Moon, closely followed by Ella Fitzgerald’s Gold, and George Michael’s double greatest hits album.
But I also love Ravel’s Bolero, Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue and the glorious , Rachmaninov’s 2nd Piano Concerto.

DoNotEatWithYourMouthOpen · 24/10/2025 22:08

Meatloaf - Bat out of hell or
Bryan Adams - Reckless or
Greenday - Dookie
i can't decide between them. All classics.

Thisismyalterego · 24/10/2025 22:09

Many favourites, but if I could only listen to one for the rest of my life, it would be Boz Scaggs - Silk Degrees. Bought it on vinyl when it was first released in 1976, it was the first cd I ever bought and the first album I put on my iPod.

Lil' Beethoven by Sparks. I came very late to the Sparks party, but their music has given me so much joy in the last 4 years.

WolfsNipplesChips · 24/10/2025 22:28

Lots of my personal faves mentioned already, such as Portishead and Alanis Morissette.

I’d like to add -
Massive Attack- Blue lines
The Stone Roses
Primal Scream - screamsdelica

RoseHipNovember · 24/10/2025 22:31

I think Marquee Moon by Television might be the best album ever recorded. It’s timeless.

Then for me personally, All Hands on the Bad One by Sleater-Kinney.

Also, the two Nick Cave albums which I believe are just perfect are Push the Sky Away and The Boatman’s Call.

Finally, PJ Harvey’s Stories From the City Stories From the Sea came out during a formative period in my life. I was a young teenager. So I guess I’d have to say that one too. That one deserved its Mercury prize for sure, remember how many great tracks were on that. Blimey.

The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust, chased by Hunky Dory.

Although according to Spotify Wrapped it's the ADHD Focus Playlist which is a bit mortifying.

IndieRocknRoll · 24/10/2025 22:35

George Michael - ladies & gentlemen
Blur - Parklife
Green Day - American idiot
The Killers - Hot fuss

Arran2024 · 24/10/2025 22:36

My favourite is The Defamation of Strickland Banks by Plan B, which is probably an unusual choice given that I'm in my mid 60s! Before that, it would be The Lexicon of Love by ABC.

wanderingtopographer · 24/10/2025 22:37

Fuck yeah to Dark Side of the Moon though! The number of times I lined that up with Wizard of Oz in my mid teens...

Also love Grace by Jeff Buckley
