What’s your favourite album of all time

DH and I embraced the shuffle generation very early on from our very first iPod and before that mixed tapes. It seems like decades since we last actually listened to an album.

today we had a long drive so we’ve done
Bat out of Hell (I’d forgotten how good that was)
brothers in arms
a Joni Mitchell one was a bit dreary
Ella Fitzgerald gold (absolutely brilliant)
Invisible touch (it seems the fuck up your life lyric has been cleansed on Spotify)

give me your recommendations we are very open minded with music tastes and genres the only thing that brings the shutters slamming down is rap

Kimono My House by Sparks.
Flood by They Might Be Giants.
Blue is the Colour by The Beautiful South.

PrissyGalore · 24/10/2025 20:35

The Queen is Dead by The Smiths gave me the shivers when I first heard it. Achtung Baby U2, Rumours. Unfortunately, I very rarely listen to albums now as I stream most music and just ask it to play random artists. So I love Wolf Alice but couldn’t name an album. But I’ve just remembered Urban Hymns-I played it to death! And my favourite for listening all the way through is Springsteen’s Tunnel of Love. Showing my age!

I need to think about this! Too many that I love. I have a big vinyl collection, I’m not a shuffler.

Without thinking much:
Carol King Tapestry
The doors LA woman
Fleetwood Mac Rumours
The kinks something else
Joni Mitchell Blue
Jimi Hendrix Electric ladyland
James Taylor Mud slide slim
Van Morrison Avalon sunset

Yes to LA Woman.

PrissyGalore · 24/10/2025 20:37

I love all of these picks! Remind me of ones I’ve forgotten.

ohidoliketobe · 24/10/2025 20:41

Kimono My House by Sparks.

Blue is the Colour by The Beautiful South.

I'd forgotten about Komono My House by Sparks, its a good one. It was the soundtrack to my mid teenage years, my pal at school and I played it constantly.
Agree with the Blondie fans, Parallel Lines is a favourite, also Eat to the Beat.
American Idiot by Green Day.
Lots of old classics on this thread, not so many recent albums.

Cluckycluck · 24/10/2025 20:45

Bruce Springsteen - The River
Metallica - S&M
Afghan Whigs - Gentleman
Raphael Saadiq - The Way I See It

LeedsZebra90 · 24/10/2025 20:45

Great shout with bat out of hell.

Bleed like me by Garbage is pretty much a perfect album in my eyes.

HappyToSmile · 24/10/2025 20:49

I automatically went to say Raintown by Deacon Blue, then read some of these others and George Michael "Faith" is there too. As is "cracked rear view " by Hootie and the blowfish. Oh, and Prince. And .....!!!!

FerretsPlease · 24/10/2025 20:52

Astral Weeks by Van Morrison

The Kick Inside by Kate Bush

Hejira by Joni Mitchell

The Kick Inside is amazing, and all written by a teenager. Even my dc born in the 2000s loves it.

I’ll add Kate’s Hounds of Love, particularly The Ninth Wave.

RobertaFirmino · 24/10/2025 20:53

There's no way I could choose just one! I'd say:
New Order - Technique
Pixies - Doolittle
Depeche Mode - Violator
Rush - Signals

Bellabomb · 24/10/2025 20:54

Ooh, it's difficult to pick just one. I've narrowed it down to three:
American Pie - Don McLean
Simon and Garfunkels Greatest Hits
Cat Stevens Greatest Hits

I love Paul Simon's Graceland, and also Chris Isaak Baja Sessions. Cant decide which is my favourite

I was going to suggest Graceland. I don’t really have a favourite album because I like lots of different genres, but Graceland is so beautiful, it hasn’t dated at all.

CoubousAndTourmaIet · 24/10/2025 20:58

Physical Graffiti - Led Zeppelin

Apocalyptica - Apocalyptica

Harshreality · 24/10/2025 21:00

Alanis Morrisette - Under Rug Swept

CremeDiplomat · 24/10/2025 21:00

Little Earthquakes by Tori Amos

Beaniebobbins · 24/10/2025 21:03

I’d have to give another vote for jagged little pill,

also the bends by Radiohead and big calm by morcheeba

and I would have to 21 by Adele too

and I think those choices probably immediately give away my age 😂

CoubousAndTourmaIet · 24/10/2025 21:05

I need a third one.

Fallen - Evanescence.

ClawsandEffect · 24/10/2025 21:05

Kate Bush - Never Forever
Lisa Stansfield - Affection
Muse - The Resistance
Paul Simon - Graceland
Chili Peppers - Californication
T Rex - Electric Warrior

Algen · 24/10/2025 21:07

I’m also a shuffler, but some of the albums I listen to as albums are:

Kirsty MacColl - Tropical Brainstorm
Within Temptation - The Silent Force
Chumbawamba - The Boy Bands Have Won

Rockandgrohl · 24/10/2025 21:08

No doubt tragic kingdom 🟠
