Are Cake Sheds a thing in your town?

In the last few months there have been 9 cake sheds pop up in my small town - where people are selling homemade cakes from their front garden with an honesty box. According to their social media pages they are really popular, which is great as I love to support small businesses.
Trends like this fascinate me, and I wonder how long they will last once the novelty wears off.
Is it a current thing across the whole country?

There are a few in the villages around here. All have five star hygiene ratings, allergen information on the packaging and Ring doorbells for security. Items are £3.50-£4.00. There are also a couple of bakers selling bread/cakes directly from their homes.

Loads around us.

There are loads of them near me - within a few square miles there’s a honey shed (also sells beeswax cosmetics), a pie shed, fudge shed, several cake sheds and gazillions of honesty boxes for eggs/veg etc (including mine). I don’t know about the cake sheds but about a third of the eggs I put out get taken without paying/paid with foreign coins or small change which doesn’t add up. I’d be amazed if any of them are making money - I only sell my surplus eggs to keep the ducks in duck food - if I increased security it would take years to pay off so I put up with the regular thefts…

I live in a very poor town and these cake sheds are EVERY WHERE! I have no idea who uses them, who on earth is paying £3-5 per overloaded Cadbury stuffed coookie? I know they have to be registered with the council but I’ve seen videos of the cook breaking food open with their ridiculous spiney fake nails on and wearing jewellery and make up etc. I work in a commercial kitchen, have been around food production my entire life. and my sister runs a commercial kitchen. Good (legal) compliance is her bread and butter. I don’t see how ANY of these kitchens are turning out food at the top end of the food safety/compliance end. My sisters place won’t hire anybody with fake lashes, nails or jewellery apart from a wedding ring. You couldn’t pay me to eat from a questionable cake shed .

Never seen or heard of one in real life though.

Yes so many have opened up in my town and neighbouring towns. The issue I think is the majority of them aren’t actually based near the town centre, they’re kind of out of the way so you’d have to specifically drive there just for that. They all seem to do really well which is great, I have seen a lot of them closing early/ not opening at all due to the heat. I expect in winter people won’t want to specifically go there in the rain/ice.

We have people selling eggs and things like that, but not seen any cake sheds. On a recent holiday to Scotland, there were lots though, also eggs, jam etc. I did wonder who would buy from them (the cakes specifically) as quite expensive, but I suppose if all the shops and cafes were closed and you really wanted a cake...

...and sometimes the kids help make them too!

Haven't seen any round my way. There are a couple of farms just outside the town that sell eggs and veg in this way.

There's one in an estate about 5 min from me. Its not really on a main through road, more of a cul de sac, but with footpaths off it. I pass it occassionally when im running, ive no idea if it makes any money or how well known it is
