Do you eat in bed?

Or allow your DCs to?

We're a no family now, but I've got to be honest and say one of my guilty pleasures as a teenager was to curl up in bed with some snacks and a book 😳

Very rarely! I don’t really like breakfast in bed!

Day to day, I certainly wasn’t allowed to eat in bed as a child. And we didn’t allow our children to eat in bed either.

However, showing my age, a plate of three marmite crackers and a glass of Lucozade was occasionally allowed when recovering from illness.😃. And the best bit was being allowed to look through the amber coloured paper 😀

SunshineMoon100 · 20/10/2025 20:13

No,unless unwell

QueenStevie · 20/10/2025 20:18

I love eating in bed. Cereal usually so no crumbs. I love getting up, feeding the cats and getting my breakfast and getting back in bed to eat it.

No never, I hate it, no food or drink (except water)

Growlybear83 · 20/10/2025 20:27

So how do people feel about eating in the bath? I almost always have a shower instead of a bath, but on the very rare occasions I do have a soak in the bath, it wouldn’t be the same without a cup of tea and a bacon sandwich. 😆

Thesummer · 20/10/2025 20:32

Hot drinks and things like chocolate or biscuits sometimes, as a kind of self care treat. Would not enjoy breakfast in bed at all, never understood why it's seen as such a special indulgence.

DustyMaiden · 20/10/2025 20:33

I have breakfast in bed every day. I wouldn’t eat crumbly food.

Irritatediron · 20/10/2025 20:37

How messy of an eater are all these crumby mumsnetters!! I eat in bed regularly, shared house with a kitchen but no living area (first house share post uni) so all meals are upstairs !

LillyPJ · 20/10/2025 20:39

The only time I eat in bed is if I wake up in the middle of the night and can't sleep because I'm hungry. I'll make toast or have cheese and crackers, make a cup of tea and take it all back to bed. Breakfast in bed isn't tempting for me at all though.

IlovetoKnitandRead · 20/10/2025 20:40

Tea in bed every morning and tea and toast on Sundays. Bliss!

Enko · 20/10/2025 20:44

I drink tea but no I loathe crumbs in bed

Financeisfun · 20/10/2025 20:44

No. No food or animals in bedrooms here.

DeanStockwelll · 20/10/2025 19:42

Generally only if I wake up in the middle of the night and I am hungry, then it's cheese and small crackers / pitta and hummus or crumpets. All of which are low / non crumb making .
Although me and @sweetpea1532 have discussed on may occasions how to invent a mini vav so we can cleannup without getting out of bed 😃

Yes, @DeanStockwelll , sounds like we should get right on our mini-vac invention ...the perfect Christmas gift for those crumb-adverse Mumsnetters.Grin..Until then, crumbs don't bother me since I just sweep them off the bed with my hand.. Of course I hoover them up later. I sometimes have chocolate in bed in the middle of the night if I can't get right back to sleep. Unfortunately, on occasion, I've fallen asleep whilst indulging, and woke up with melted chocolate all over the sheets, in my hair, etc.(OK, I admit it, I tend to be a bit of a slob, but I'm old now and can take certain liberties since my grown DCs are out of the house...YOLO!)
My DH brings me coffee and a pastry in bed most mornings, too, which I enjoy whilst scrolling through MN.
Never allowed my DCs to eat upstairs, nor did I when they were small.

TwinklyNight · 21/10/2025 03:52

Only when unwell. Or on holiday I've bought chocolate caramels and ate them while reading in bed.

Livin' it up!

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 21/10/2025 04:04

This post has made me think - haven’t had breakfast in bed for years, not even on my birthday. DH & I have a cuppa in bed some mornings & he brings me one before he goes to work on other days. The only time I eat in bed is when I’m poorly.

logplant · 21/10/2025 04:29

Never - no food upstairs

Howinthehelldidthishappen · 21/10/2025 10:56

No, never. No drinks in bed either.
I go to bed when I want to sleep, and there's nothing worse than laying around in bed once I'm awake.

MNLurker1345 · 21/10/2025 20:53

Bowling4soup · 20/10/2025 17:41

We do… takeaway pizza in bed is the best

I actually had a physical reaction to this! It made my eyes water! Breathe, breathe, breathe!

Mycarsmellsoflavender · 21/10/2025 21:03

no, never, reminds me of being in hospital. Even tea in bed is a step too far.

CountingDownTheTime · 21/10/2025 21:04

Never. I don't even have a cup of tea in bed.

JetFlight · 21/10/2025 21:20

never. Kids don’t either.
I remember a work colleague tell me that her and her dp would eat a kebab in bed after a night out. That made me feel very unsettled.

Tagliateriroa · 21/10/2025 21:26

Drinks yes. Food absolutely not. We are a no food upstairs house

34ransum · 21/10/2025 21:46

God no. The crumbs :/

VikingLady · 21/10/2025 21:51

I took to my bed when lockdown began, with the kids, and we just lived our lives in my bed. It’s a habit that has lasted. We did crafts together, read together, did their work there.

Food wise, it’s my damn bed and I will eat whatever I want there but generally don’t eat fish or things with sharp crumbs, just in case. The kids aren’t allowed unless it’s dry and non-crumby, like bananas.

LLJETO · 21/10/2025 21:54

Not generally but last time I had some awful cold virus I had a cuppa in bed with some biscuits and it felt so indulgent!
