As a young Gen Xer, excited to see in the coming years babies called Yvonne, Susan, Joan, Ian, Richard and Brian etc.

I assume it's going to happen in the great cycle of names?

I'm more excited about the potential Tracy Stacey, Claire, Louise, Catherine, Rebecca, Danielle, Kelly, Shelley, Melanie and Vicky babies that must make a comeback one day.

Funnily enough most of the boy names from the same era are still quite popular.

Apart from maybe Wayne, Dean, Simon, Neil, David, Paul... Adam?

Someone I know called their baby daughter Rebecca not long ago, their older child has a more modern/trendy name and they do not sound right together at all. 😂 I was actually more surprised by their first child’s name though as they’re not trendy people at all. Rebecca feels much more ‘them’.

So pleased someone likes my own name upthread - as far as I know all the other people with my name are 10 plus years older than me so I am currently flying the flag!

I’m sure there’s a whole category of names in between such as Sylvia, Mavis, Gladys, Gloria, Sheila, Colin, Clive, Barry, Tina, Rita, Vera, Valerie,

And let’s not forget a host of less popular older names still available: Margaret, Maud, Phyllis, Iris, Edna, Mavis, Fanny, Gertie, Hilda, Horice, Walter, Geoffrey, Dennis, Keith, Percy.

I do love a name thread.

Doesn't Ulrika Jonnson have a son named Malcolm ? I hoped my second grandson would be a Malcy but he's a Max , although we call him Paddy !

I know a baby Maud and a baby Eric (they are, fortunately, not from the same family).

I was a little taken aback when introduced to my first Ada and did have to stop myself exclaiming that they appeared to have given birth to their great grandmother, but now Adas are everywhere and it's become just another name.
