It distracts fom Philps and Lam's mass deportation plan which has been compared to Idi Amin's policy

Amin deported 80,000.

Lam’s plan is 3 million?
Forced deportation of 3 million, many of whom would be pensioners, parents etc.

Rather puts Idi Amin in the shade.

3 million indeed.

This policy was actually tabled in May, it has only surfaced thanks to Katie Lam's interview.

It looks like they didn't even realise what they are actually proposing.

And apparently the 2005 BNP manifesto was more moderate.

7 by-elections, Reform won in Paulsgrove (Portsmouth), gained from localists PIP who didn't stand.

Others were Lib Dems (4),Tory and Labour

Paulsgrove going to reform isn’t a total shock. It’s an area of extreme social deprivation in a lot of areas and are the social economic audience they are seeking with their blaming of others.

The Times are super excited by Lam. So much love.
Pearls and curls, oblique references to ‘cultural coherence’ (nudge, nudge, wink, wink) and a deportation policy to shame the BNP.

“Reform-led Nottinghamshire County Council is to spend £75,000 installing new flags.”
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/czdr3npe33do

Im sure adult social care or the SN schools or town centres couldn’t have benefited from that money any other way.

(I remember that my disabled toddler had to compete against other disabled toddlers for access to services but I’m sure they’d have loved a flag instead).

Union flag flapping around in the wind

Criticism as Reform-led council set to spend £75,000 on new flags

The council says union jack flags will be flown in 82 locations in a bid to foster "community spirit".

The question has to be asked why 1770 people in an extremely deprived area decided to vote Reform. The turn out was 28%. Would be interested to see how many were postal votes.

Edit to add: I wonder if it's an area ripe for development.

SerendipityJane · 24/10/2025 16:53

If people don't vote, they don't really get to complain.

Also Joe Standon is yet another ex Conservative.

It seems the more Tories jump ship join Reform, the less well Reform do.

It's almost as if voters really really really don't want to see Tories anywhere.

Another problem for Farage.

Perhaps not so much a problem for Farage - he doesn't care - but more of a problem for the ship jumpers.

It's Portsmouth! Ahoy.

It's that promise of a chance to punch down, again.

There’s not really room for development as in expansion.
It’s a highly populated area. My mum grew up there - 9 of them in a 3 bed council house!!! She became a teacher as this was back when people encouraged social mobility and opportunity and people took it and took personally responsibility for growth of oneself.

Im not surprised at a low turn out, I doubt many postal votes in the area. But many disenfranchised people who will believe they have little due to “illegal immigrants” rather than the truth of the situation.

I spent half my childhood in Portchester (neighbouring village) and a lot of time in Paulsgrove from birth as my nan lived there until she died and I have uncles only 12 years older than me so I know the area very well.

If you're at the bottom, the top are unassailable and the media isn't honest about the right wing, whether it be Reform or the Tories, they'll go for easy targets. They're angry, rightly so, but at the wrong people.

Agree. However the media no longer get their money from the poor, the days of solid print are long gone. GB news is free without a license.

Nige got his Brucie bonus with the Epping Forest guy being let out of prison in error - sigh.
I obviously think what he did was abhorrent and I think the prison making the error is dire and it needs review, but the worry of reform and wide racist rhetoric (already on mn) that is always almost drooled over when these things happen is depressing.

DuncinToffee · 24/10/2025 20:23

It was breaking news on the BBC and still the leading story.

I hope the 'concerned citizens' aren't joining the manhunt.

It is an appalling error. The conspiracy theories are already being spun by the malevolent SM spiders.

I hope the police catch him before he commits any further assaults and before the vigilantes do. Plus there is the risk of an innocent man being mistaken for the fugitive.

I've heard of streets of London, but never streets of Essex. FarAge and Badenoch are off the scale on their remarks. The prison estate is all but privatised. Under the Tories and FarAge supported it.

I’d not realised he was still out and about. Still a leading story.
I have never had time for vigilantes or anyone but the legal system doling out justice - though I appreciate if it was my family harmed I may feel differently.
But this could go terribly wrong - hesitant to say this, but some of the most vigorous vigilantes are less likely to take time to identify correctly and may have inbuilt bias to identify quite randomly. I mean positive identification and vigilante justice doesn’t often go hand in glove anyway.
One more place our Nige won’t be found tonight though eh! Just pointing from a safe distance!

PandoraSocks · 25/10/2025 08:29

Kebatu is still at large. It is terrible. Heads need to roll for this. His poor victims must be terrified.
