Do you enjoy your life?

I’m 53, have a great DH and 3 grown up children (at home/Uni).

I have just realised that I don’t really enjoy my life. Work and work worries take over, then there is a relentless list of stuff to do. I reward myself with food and TV but I’m realising that in reality it’s not enjoyable. I’ve got to the point where I don’t even know what I enjoy anymore.

What parts of your life do you enjoy? Have you purposely built in enjoyable moments into your day?

It's so common in women where we devote ourselves to our family/others and get used to putting ourselves last. I had some counselling not long ago and in the first session she asked me about my husband and children and what they like - easy, I could answer without thinking. Then she asked me what my favourite things were - I didn't even know. I cried.
But slowly I am doing things for myself and trying to build happy moments into my day. Not there by a long shot but most days I can write in my diary something that I have done that is worthy - to me - to note and it could me making a pie from scratch to going for a walk and taking photos of the changing autumn colours.

You say you like gentle things which is great because you have a starting point.

Look after yourself, you are a special person. No one else is coming.

Thank you. You made me cry but your post completely resonates with me. x

Thank you everyone for your posts. They are really helpful and thoughtful. I’m really glad I started this thread.

Mostly I do. I have a life-limiting illness that causes a lot of pain, but I have my little job I love, and I enjoy where I live, and I’m grateful for small things.

Difficult question for me to answer. I have PPD and suffer a little bit from anxiety so sometimes I struggle in the everyday. However, quite often I am happy. I have a comfortable life, lovely home, lovely DH, career, I work for home which I love, everyone is healthy, we have no money worries, me and my DH are very equal in everything inc, how much we earn and how much childcare we do. I love food. However at my current stage of life I struggle with not having time to myself or time off to do things that I want to do. However mostly I am happy yes

Folio Society books for my bookcases

Not heard of them before @Arraminta but I've just spent a very contented hour on their website! What beautiful illustrations. Now which one to ask for for Christmas ...

Oh I love it, genuinely. I’m married to a good man who adores me and works so hard for our family, I get to stay home with our small children, v nearly 4yo and 7mo. All I ever really wanted from life was to have a happy family having grown up in a highly abusive household, so everything about my current life makes me so happy. I do v little at the moment outside of caring for our children, because they’re so young, but that suits me just fine! Yesterday, for example, we when to football in the morning then blew up balloons and played ‘keepy uppy’, carved a pumpkin because DS wanted to, baked cookies and played in the woods. I’m very lucky.

this is beautiful ❤️
