Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

I'm just drinking my first cuppa of the day, in my kitchen spot, as usual. Girl cat's had breakfast & gone back upstairs, boy cat is currently prowling the kitchen window ledge. Probably a bird out there.

Dd2's not up yet, so it's very quiet. She has left her homework piled neatly on the table, though, so I presume her plan is to come down and do homework at the table today. That probably involves at least one or 2 more episodes of The Rookie 🤣.

I plan to potter, wash towels, and list a few things on Vinted. I'll probably paint a bit more too. Oh, maybe chuck some clean pants and socks in my case for the weekend, or get out my boots!

We're having roast chicken for tea tonight, with all the accompaniments. Including the last of last year's cranberry sauce 😋. Maybe a nip to the shop for something sweet unless dd can be persuaded to bake brownies for afters.

Once the kitchen's clean and tidy it'll be showers, ready for work and school tomorrow. Mine will be my usual Self-Care-Sunday scrubby everything shower, followed by a couple more chapters of my book, then bed 💤.

What about all of you? 🙂

I’m having a rare lie in. DH has gone out. I’ll get up soon and walk the dog. DS2 said he has “lots of work” to do but this may also involve watching The Rookie! I need to finish some laundry, and might organise my wardrobe and put summer stuff away. We are also having roast chicken for dinner!

Shineonyoucrazy · 05/10/2025 09:07

Going to batch cook red cabbage and apple, and dhall for supper tomorrow; put washing out then several hours catching up with work work, then cook roast chicken and Apple Crumble. Will make some home made no churn ice cream to go with it - just double cream and condensed milk.

countrybump · 05/10/2025 09:16

I’m having a lie in but about to get up and plan to head to a cafe by the canal for a late breakfast with DH and DD. Hoping I can persuade DS to come with us too - he’ll be tempted by the suggestion of a bacon sandwich I’m sure.
Depending on the weather we might than go for a wander along the canal before coming back to potter around and get ready for the week ahead. I need to put the washing away and DD and I need to go through her college application.
Also planning roast chicken for dinner, time for us the sit down together as a family before DS heads back to where he currently stays during the week while he is doing an internship.
Then I’m planning a relaxing evening reading my book, possibly in the bath.

Mornings Lucysmam and all. Bright sunny day here in my part of Scotland.

Been up since 8, a lay in but our friend who is visiting woke us up as she's getting ready to go for a day sight seeing. My mental health is a bit rubbish right now so she's going alone and I'm going to have a day crafting and hibernating. DW will drop her at the station in a minute and then walk the dogs.

I need to attempt to find something to sell on Vinted, as I want to buy a fleece for £65 but promised myself I'd stop spending unnecessarily. However I am the opposite of a hoarder so currently can't think of anything. May ask DW to raid her wardrobe!

Sonolanona · 05/10/2025 09:31

Bright and sunny here in Oxfordshire. Quick cuppa as I have squash coaching at 10. We were meant to be going to Dogfest at Blenheim Palace but it's been cancelled due to yesterday's weather so no real plans except walking the dog this afternoon and maybe planting my garlic at my allotment. DH will take DS2 to SN rugby while I'm playing squash.

My daughter's inlaws are visiting so we may meet up with the dogs and go for a walk and meal , IF they can organise themselves (they are lovely but scatty!)

And we will continue to play 'where the fuck is the remote?' It disappeared yesterday and we have turned the house upside down looking for it... we only have one TV! I can operate it from my phone, but that's not ideal!

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 05/10/2025 09:35

Good morning Lucysmam and others. It's blustery here but not particularly cold. I've been up doing not much since before seven. I've had two coffees and two small slices of homemade bread to finish it off. I'm now on my second cuppa. The dishwasher is on and I have towels in the tumble dryer. After the cuppa, I'll hoover and polish then visit dd and the boys for another cuppa. This afternoon Tesco are delivering so dinner will be steak and chips. Have a good day all

Thislittlekitten · 05/10/2025 10:07

Morning everyone.

Didn’t manage to post yesterday as we were flying out to Spain for our holiday!

It is lovely and warm here, though a bit cloudy but that’s fine. We are about to go for a walk and maybe stop for a drink. Yesterday was such a busy day, very early start and we were exhausted so today we just plan a quiet day but out for tea tonight.

Puregoldy · 05/10/2025 10:12

Morning all! I’ve been up early cleaning and tidying. Possibly avoiding the actual work I’m meant to be doing. About to walk the dog. Slow cooker is on with sausage casserole for tea. I’m going to drop a child off for skateboarding with friends. Plan to catch up with dp later and some Netflix for an easy evening.

Peridot1 · 05/10/2025 10:13

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone.

Been up for a while and have had tea and then emptied the dishwasher and made boiled eggs and toast for breakfast. Just having another cuppa.

Bright sunny morning here but windy and a bit chilly. I’ll get dressed in a bit and go out for a walk.

Plan for the day is to do some laundry. We are also painting a garden room so may get some of that done. Depending on how cold it feels. I might summon up the enthusiasm to give the shed a bit of a clean and de-cobweb so we can put the outdoor furniture away. I have peppermint oil spray made and am going to liberally spray the whole interior in a hope to reduce the spiders a bit. There is also some stuff in there that needs junking and we have a skip coming tomorrow so may sort through some of that.

Hope to get some time with my book too. Or a couple of magazines.

Dinner is a baked ham with roast potatoes and veg. Then some tv and an early night with my book.

Kim82 · 05/10/2025 10:19

Good morning everyone. We’re all up and just lazing around in our pjs. I need to strip all the beds and do a bit of a whizz round with the duster and hoover then I want to make a start on painting all the woodwork in the bedroom. Hopefully I can get it done today then start on the walls tomorrow after work.

Dd11 is dancing at a rugby match at 5pm today so I’ll take her there then back home for tea, we’re having sausage and mash tonight. This evening I’ll iron school and work clothes then showers and early nights all round ready for a week of work and school.

Taytocrisps · 05/10/2025 10:23

Having a quick cuppa and then I need to shower and dress. I'm heading to a pre-wedding lunch for my niece. She already had the wild hen weekend. So this is more of a sedate lunch for the Mammies and Aunties 🙂. I'll drop DD to work on the way. Looking forward to seeing everyone and to spoiling my niece.

Zippedydodah · 05/10/2025 10:27

Good morning, enjoying catching up with @lucysmam and everyone while eating avocado toast with a big mug of coffee.
We’ve walked the dogs from a nearby village, staying on the lanes as it’s so muddy at the moment. A new walk for me but DH has done it several times with ZDog1, a 3 mile loop, wide open views, very windy on the top lanes but really warm in the sheltered and sunny bits.
The washing is on the line and I need to sort out my spot in the living room where my knitting, crocheting and yarn etc is building up and beginning to irritate me. It needs a good sort and tidy up. I suspect I need to get the vacuum cleaner out too, the dogs’ hair gets everywhere 😵‍💫
Besided that nothing much happening, pork and apple sausages with mash, vegetables and cider sauce for dinner. I picked up some windfall cooking apples on our walk so baked apples (again!), it’s my favourite at the moment, with custard I think for pudding.
Have a lovely day 🌻

Whattheduck · 05/10/2025 10:29

Morning all
Had a lie in which is rare for me got up and had a shower
Put a wash on
Dh is away for 3 weeks with work
Dd is home from university for the weekend and stayed at her boyfriend’s last night and has now gone to work until 4.00
Just having a late breakfast
Going to sort my dining room out and also the shoe cupboard under the stairs
Will cook a roast for when Dd gets home which we’ll eat whilst watching last night’s Strictly then she’ll drive back later luckily it’s only a 50 minute drive
Will take the dog for a walk
No plans for later I started watching Monster the Ed Gein story last night so might watch another episode of that
Have a lovely Sunday everyone

Crunchymum · 05/10/2025 10:31

Lovely, sunny day here too. A bit nippy but the perfect autumnal day.

So far I've done two washes, cleared the airers and have a pile of irorning waiting for me. I've also cleaned both the cat litter trays (obviously we clean any mess out as and when but they get a proper clean twice a week!).

DP is working but will be home for lunch - sausage sandwiches all round. Then he's taking kids for a bike ride along the canal / hot chocolate on the way home.

I've got food shopping due any time and then I'm going to make a lasagne for dinner. Was going to do a roast beef dinner but forgot to add a few essentials to the shopping order (like potatoes FFS!) so it's plan B. Going to use the beef for a stew instead and that will be dinner a few nights in the week.

Looking for a new series to watch with the older two in the evenings - early teenager and a tween - any recommendations?

Giggorata · 05/10/2025 10:42

Good morning lucysmam and all.
I have some tidying and sorting stuff for the charity shop to do this morning, also laundry and hanging some antlers.
We're having scrambled eggs on toast for brunch, as I have oodles of eggs (we both accidentally bought some).
Admin this afternoon.
Mince and dumplings for dinner.
Reading this evening.
So a busy but unexciting day. Nonetheless, I will enjoy it (well, apart from the admin)

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 05/10/2025 10:46

Good morning @lucysmam & The Sunday Crew. Awake very early again but went back to sleep after DH & I had a cuppa made by me. DD16 has a friend for a sleepover - they are currently cooking chips for breakfast, as you do! Amazingly we didn’t have to tell them to keep the noise down last night. DD often gets giddy around her friends or GF but she’s been pretty calm this time. DH is waiting for the kitchen then he’ll make his usual porridge. So far I have eaten one of DD’s brownies which, as I posted on another thread, are absolutely gorgeous! I need to go to Specsavers as the optician told me on Friday that my prescription has changed. My current glasses are very ordinary so hoping to get a more flamboyant pair. Also hoping there’s an offer for free or reduced prescription sunglasses. Last time I got the most expensive pair in the shop completely free as they’d cocked up my order. Later, I’m dropping the girls at the cinema to see the new Taylor Swift movie. The friend’s Mum will drop DD home sometime after 7 as they’re going to an early showing. I defrosted some pork meatballs overnight & we’ll have them for tea in a Lebanese sauce ( jar from Tescos) & pasta. Think DH is in charge of the dishwasher as we’re still catching up with all the crockery that’s been used. Laundry more or less up to date. DD needs a clean sheet. Oh & I need to hop in the shower & wash my hair. I’ll catch up with All Creatures Great & Small tonight. Love that programme. Have a great day folks.

mondaytosunday · 05/10/2025 10:47

My DD went back to uni last weekend (six hour drive there) so first weekend on my own. So plan is to get some breakfast (brunch now I think). Sundays are my ‘day off’ from doing anything - not that I’m that busy with work or chores the rest of the week but it’s a day I can just chill without feeling like I SHOULD be doing stuff! Be that as it may I will tidy the kitchen and then settle down to some crochet. I’ve had requests from the kids for Christmas but I’m doing a project for me currently. Dinner will be leftovers from last nights meal - still cooking for two! I’m watching Invasion on Apple plus so that’s my viewing schedule.

PermanentTemporary · 05/10/2025 10:53

Good morning! We had quite a ‘get going’ start this morning as both of us are doing separate things in London today. Bright and sunny day. Dp brought me a coffee then we managed to get out of bed without too much delay, I made a packed lunch of hard boiled eggs with left over veggies from the fridge. Then we caught the bus. Met a friend going to London on the same train which was a nice chat. Looking forward to seeing my oldest friends for a walk, dp has tickets to the American football at Tottenham. I think we will probably eat separately tonight so I’ll please myself, probably more leftovers or some chickpeas.

dontforgetme · 05/10/2025 10:57

Good morning @lucysmam and all.

Been up since 9, had 2 cuppas, washing machine has its second load in. Will run the vac round the whole
house before getting in the shower. Fried egg on toast then going to attempt to organise our garage before our team kick off at 2pm. Turkey mince pasta bake for dinner. Dp and I will start Monster once the kids are in bed tonight. Chilled house day after a very busy one yesterday!

Have lovely Sundays all.

MyAcornWood · 05/10/2025 10:58

Good morning all! Wishing you a very happy weekend.

Quite a slow morning this morning. Usually my 4yo would have rugby on a Sunday morning so we have to be out of the door by 9 but his coach is on holiday today, so we had a (relative!) lie in. Sorted the horses (no riding today, too windy!), dogs and ducks 🦆 then back in to get baby down for a nap. She’s fast asleep on me now. I had the best of intentions of getting her in her cot, she’s 7 months and firmly wedded to the idea of contact naps forever, but while my head may say ‘cot, now!’, my heart says ‘cuddle that baby’
Of course, if she stays asleep it’ll be a miracle, as DH is showing our 4yo how he used to play as a child… by putting all the armchair cushions on the stairs and sliding down 🤦🏼‍♀️ much hilarity, bashing and crashing!
I’ll tack away at cleaning the house later, and cook a roast for supper.

Hoppinggreen · 05/10/2025 11:03

I am going out for lunch and a walk with my friend.
She is from an EU country and absolutely lovely but also rather "mediterranean" so can be a bit exhausting.in her enthusiasm for everything. I love her to bits though and haven't seen her for ages
DH is putting up shelves and I am hoping he waits until I get back but he has form for just cracking on and then complaining nobody was here to help him
DS is at a friends so will probably want picking up later
I will be doing some ironing later but not cooking as I will have eaten a big lunch so everyone can fend for themslves
I may brush ddog later too

Simonjt · 05/10/2025 11:07

Good morning, we’ve got my husbands little brother here for the weekend so he’s gone off to the park with our oldest. So we took the little one to softplay this morning.

We are finally getting some work done on our main bathroom/utility room, everything in the house is old so updates have been a bit bodgy. So at the moment the washing machine drains into a pipe that goes through the wall and into the bath, so thats finally getting sorted today, yes, a plumber who works on a sunday! No more forgetting and having a lovely bath ruined with gross washing machine water.

MummyInTheNecropolis · 05/10/2025 11:17

Morning all, I’ve done some chores this morning, cleaning, laundry and hoovering. Chilling on the sofa with the cat now. This afternoon I’m going forest bathing in a big local park, might do a short yoga session when I get in. This evening I’ll be prepping work lunches for the next few days, hanging up the last bit of washing, then settling down to watch strictly with haddock mornay, potatoes and green veg for dinner. DD has been at her boyfriends all weekend, not sure if she’ll be back this evening or tomorrow, so I’ve had the house to myself. I love my DD dearly, but I do enjoy the peace and quiet of an empty house I must admit!

veryworried1988 · 05/10/2025 11:20

Had a lie in and had scotch pancakes in bed whilst scrolling..DD is doing homework. DS has watched last night's MOTD, now he is eating crisps and playing FIFA.

I'll get.sorted.soon, put washing in the dryer, tidy round and do some work for school.

DH is at work till 4, then it's a relaxing evening of enchiladas for tea, strictly results and reading before bed.

jill5676 · 05/10/2025 11:20

Good morning all, love these threads but always forget to post. Slow morning here, up early with the 3 year old, read books in bed and played with her toys. Also watched too much bluey. Had yoghurt and granola with lots of chopped dates in it for breakfast (36 weeks pregnant) and DH went for a swim. We had scrambled eggs when he came back and now gearing up for a walk to the park /waddle for me now that baby's head has dropped! Had roast chicken yesterday so will make fajitas tonight with the leftovers. My parents are home from their holiday so will be coming over to help with the toddler this week, which is a godsend but does mean I need to sort the house out a little later. Then gearing up for my final two days of work before mat leave!
