Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

I'm just drinking my first cuppa of the day, in my kitchen spot, as usual. Girl cat's had breakfast & gone back upstairs, boy cat is currently prowling the kitchen window ledge. Probably a bird out there.

Dd2's not up yet, so it's very quiet. She has left her homework piled neatly on the table, though, so I presume her plan is to come down and do homework at the table today. That probably involves at least one or 2 more episodes of The Rookie 🤣.

I plan to potter, wash towels, and list a few things on Vinted. I'll probably paint a bit more too. Oh, maybe chuck some clean pants and socks in my case for the weekend, or get out my boots!

We're having roast chicken for tea tonight, with all the accompaniments. Including the last of last year's cranberry sauce 😋. Maybe a nip to the shop for something sweet unless dd can be persuaded to bake brownies for afters.

Once the kitchen's clean and tidy it'll be showers, ready for work and school tomorrow. Mine will be my usual Self-Care-Sunday scrubby everything shower, followed by a couple more chapters of my book, then bed 💤.

What about all of you? 🙂

Hope everyone has a good Sunday.

We had roast dinner a day early as moving DDs uni stuff today. DH left early to take rest of DDs stuff (she went back a month early for rowing and stayed in a different house and is moving back to uni college today). They will have lunch together (DH is happy about that but concerned she may chose a veggie only restaurant) then they are moving rest of things from house to uni. DD is then going rowing and DH is driving back home.

I've had a roast chicken sandwich for lunch and a Portuguese tart. The cat cried when DH left but I told him I was staying and he stopped crying and is now happy with his heater and cuddles.

Morning!

another blustery. Made leek and potato soup, lasagne and apple crumble before noon. Off on Snowdon for a walk up to half way later

Good afternoon @lucysmam and everyone. I'm late today because we've had a very busy morning!

Up at 7 to leave to pick up local daughter and chorister grandson, dropped grandson off for rehearsal then we three adults went for breakfast at Cote. It was rather disappointing as the menu has just changed and it's really no longer to my taste. Then into the cathedral for the Eucharist service, at which chorister grandson had several solos. Then took them home so he could get changed and back into town again for an activity before the afternoon service, then we went home. I'm currently eating pickled onions (I am craving them at present) while sort of watching Andromeda on the telly and scrolling through Mumsnet.

We're having meatloaf this evening, with roast potatoes for Mr Dilemma, boiled new potatoes for me, and broccoli for both of us.

I have some laundry to do, but otherwise no plans. Mr Dilemma will be going out to pick up chorister grandson after evensong, but that's all.

@DilemmaDelilah I've never had meatloaf; do you have sauce with it?

Bit of a lie in, DS had a football match so DH took him. My DD is learning to drive so she drove to work and I drove back. I’m taking her out for a driving lesson when she finishes work. Beautiful sunny morning, took the dog for a 1 hour walk and then did a load of ironing as I run 2 holiday cottages. Still have all of ours to do but just having a cup of tea and a scroll on mumsnet. My DH came back and did tip runs with our DS and he got some money for helping. My friend gave me loads of cooking apples so DS wants to make an apple custard cake. We have leftover chicken from last night so I’ll make chicken pesto pasta as quick and easy then we’re all going to watch a film tonight. I’ve just bought a heated blanket so looking forward to snuggling under that as I still refuse to put the heating on!

Bright and sunny here in Oxfordshire. Quick cuppa as I have squash coaching at 10. We were meant to be going to Dogfest at Blenheim Palace but it's been cancelled due to yesterday's weather so no real plans except walking the dog this afternoon and maybe planting my garlic at my allotment. DH will take DS2 to SN rugby while I'm playing squash.

My daughter's inlaws are visiting so we may meet up with the dogs and go for a walk and meal , IF they can organise themselves (they are lovely but scatty!)

And we will continue to play 'where the fuck is the remote?' It disappeared yesterday and we have turned the house upside down looking for it... we only have one TV! I can operate it from my phone, but that's not ideal!

Is it a SkyQ remote? If so, I think if you press the Q button on your box then the remote will make a noise for around 30 seconds. I had to do this a couple of years ago, was most happy to be reunited with it!

Struggling to get through the day. No energy. Too much uncertainty. No companionship. Worry and strife and endless to do lists. Waiting for better days

DinoLil · 05/10/2025 14:22

Is it still Sunday?!
I've been up since 4am ish with a UTI. Bah!!!!
Just watching the F1.
I've made flapjacks and forced them on my neighbours. Sorted out some washing. Bought tickets to a local event.
Booked dog sitter for a load of dates.
Dog is snoring and I'm tempted to join her - when the race is over, maybe!
I love this time of year when the nights close in, but, today, the evening isn't closing in quick enough!

DilemmaDelilah · 05/10/2025 14:24

@lucysmam I buy my meatloaf from an online butcher and I think it's very tasty! Mr Dilemma likes gravy with it, I don't bother.

I have made it and it's nice, but for me there are lots of other things which are nicer and less faff. Recipes say to glaze with a sauce - usually a tomatoey one, but some recipes have a sort of barbecue sauce. Most recipes are from the US though so they tend to be full of all sorts of crap we wouldn't necessarily use as a matter of course in the UK.

I imagine there are good ones and bad ones... you pays your money and takes your choice! Sauce or no sauce according to taste. For instance - I don't put gravy with sausages, Mr Dilemma does. I don't think meatloaf needs sauce or gravy, he does. The one I buy is very flavoursome and nice and moist.

HollyhockDays · 05/10/2025 14:26

I added in putting some stuff on Vinted to my day and have sold two things already!

Tarkan · 05/10/2025 14:26

Afternoon all!

Had a lazy morning catching up on Strictly and now watching the F1. I’ve got theatre rehearsal tonight. We have Turn of the Screw opening tomorrow for a week long run so I have some
little costume adjustments to do before tonight’s final rehearsal and then just need to iron and steam all the costumes and tidy up the dressing rooms before tomorrow. So I’ll be heading off to theatre in an hour or so then should finally get home around 10pm.

A warm day at home today after a swimming lesson for my daughter this morning just about to dig into some cookie pie.

frozendaisy · 05/10/2025 14:57

Afternoon all,

Slow coffee drinking morning, looking after considerably better teenager.

It seems the family are having a revival of pass the pigs, which is great fun even if only one of us seems to have the luck of the dice! Always was, seems always still still is.

Beef has just gone in to cook slowly, so have 3 hours or so to prep veg, cauliflower cheese, yorkshires etc.

Apparently home work and study is all under (hidden) control. Have had a morning of admin. And getting distracted with online shopping, it's a busy time for purchasing, not that keen but with couple of family birthdays and christmas I am more looking for inspiration that any firm ideas.

Have the unenviable task of putting laundry away, I hate it, I can get it to washed and dry and then give up, but it is nicer to have it put away as well, would rather cook two roast dinners!

Normal working week, with added parent's chat.

Radio is on, everyone is home, it's just a lovely chilled Sunday of house noise, reading, small jobs and the evil laundry.

JacknDiane · 05/10/2025 15:10

What online butcher do you buy the meatloaf from @DilemmaDelilah?

I really fancy some now, I used to make it years ago but can't remember how 🤔

Onesipmore · 05/10/2025 15:36

Up late as I have shingles. Cleaned house, done a supermarket shop and made a cottage pie for later. About to start new Elizabeth Day book and have a glass of wine!

DilemmaDelilah · 05/10/2025 15:58

@JacknDiane we use Donald Russell butchers. Their sausages are very good too - especially their pork and caramelised onion sausages. We tend only to use them when they have special offers on the things we want though... as they're not cheap!

Good morning Mumsnetters.
I know this is a traditional Sunday morning thread for you in the UK but it came up on my active feed just now at 7.35am Tuesday in New Zealand.
I am at my desk, having a coffee and doing my daily puzzles, having put a load of washing on, fed the cat, showered and dressed.
I will start work at 8.00 and do a soft finish at around 4.30. I need to go out today to post my (local election) voting paper, courier some documents for work, do a small grocery shop to take advantage of the Tuesday 5% discount for Goldcard holders (aged 65+) and get a takeout coffee. Since I'll be out for about 90 mins ~ I will work again this evening.
On a Tuesday my partner volunteers on an aviation restoration project so I make a nice packed lunch for him. I get pleasure out of doing this as he (retired) makes my lunches the four other days.
So that's my very unexciting Tuesday plans. I love reading about all the interesting weekend doings of Mumsnetters on the other side of the globe. Isn't technology fantastic?
