Actually scented scented candle recommendations

GorillaGlue · 02/10/2025 10:57

I’ve recently found myself really getting into a good candle, especially as a cosy addition to this weather.

Any recommendations for actually potent scented candles? That leave the room with a nice aroma? The ones I’ve had so far say they’re scented but can burn for a while and I can’t actually smell anything (may be because they’re cheap supermarket candles) so I’m willing to put a little bit of money in for an actual smell!

Thanks! :)

these are amazing - I’ve got the rhubarb one and it’s gorgeous- can smell it even when not lit! Lasts forever too (looking at dh who forgot to blow it out one evening)…

Ooh this looks good and a nice treat! Thank you :)

Money no object then Diptique. If you want supermarket prices then Ikea are really good and do have a proper distinct smell even if they’re quite basic e.g. vanilla.

Wickford & Co - you can get them in home bargains. Super cheap and smell lovely.

Brand Alley have loads of the high end candle brands often 50% or more off.

DW candles in TK Maxx- I’ve never had one let me down. I look them out especially.

I absolutely love Voluspa. I’ve had several and they are all gorgeous - strong scents, not artificial at all, and lovely containers. They aren’t cheap but they are absolutely worth it.

AuntieDolly · 02/10/2025 12:22

Sand and Fog 2 wick candles from tkmaxx are good

Lurkingandlearning · 02/10/2025 12:23

I agree with @Bitzee Diptique are the best scented candles I ever used but they are eye wateringly expensive. On the plus side they don’t have to burn long to scent a room so they last a long time.

White Company candles especially the Winter one. Can smell it even when not lit.

Diptyque all the way!! Gorgeous. Baies

I bought a pack of 12 cranberry and orange tealights from Morrisons for £2. They are lovely and fresh smelling and can smell them even when not lit.

During covid a lot of people were reviewing scented candles online and saying they had no scent - but actually they had lost their sense of smell. So can you smell other things at the moment, or is there any chance you could have had covid recently?

Peggysue14 · 02/10/2025 13:23

Jo Loves, the pomelo one is nice as is the white rose and lemon leaves. Nest do nice ones as well.

user593 · 02/10/2025 13:38

Diptyque or Trudon but they’re pricey.

Squirrelsnut · 02/10/2025 13:39

St Eval or Daylsford.

GlastoNinja · 02/10/2025 13:40

Northern Soul Scents are really lovely, not too strong and not your ‘typical’ smells.

Marmalade do some lovely ones with a lingering scent.

Tinybirdie · 02/10/2025 13:46

Jesus, the price of these! Folks really do have money to burn!

JustOnePersonNotAnOctopus · 02/10/2025 13:47

I was given a nice one from M&S! Makes my office room smell like a spa! I use it when I have clients in and my dogs have been farting. Not sure it helps.

Hurumphh · 02/10/2025 13:48

White Company. Their ‘flowers’ one is lovely - rose, jasmine and neroli kind of mix

AddictedToBooks · 02/10/2025 13:52

I really find the Ecowix scented candles very good - but they do have a crackling wooden wick which does annoy some people (although I find it lovely in Autumn and Winter as it sounds like a cosy fireplace)

Have just in a panic has a sniff of the orange segment I was eating and can confirm that I do have a sense of smell! But can also confirm that I was a bit too enthusiastic, squeezed some orange into my eyes and now have burning eyeballs! 😂
